I've seen some people say ''why did Kiryu cry so much over Rikiya but not Kashiwagi?'' and I'm like ... Because he didn't have the time to mourn for his death? and when Rikiya's time came he had already lost so many loved ones at this point; so after bottling up his emotions for so long, Rikiya was the final straw for him and couldn't take it anymore?

Wasn’t Kiryu literally trying to dodge a machine gun gunning Kashiwagi’s office? Not much time to mourn when you’re in the middle of a GTA Heist
@Undergamer12Ай бұрын
Also, Kashiwagi was an old man in a profession where they died young. Man was at the yakuza peak and died after a long journey. Rikiya was just a kid, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time just trying to help his friends.

I think it's the innocence he saw in Rikiya as well. Kiryu had spent so many moments to try and keep this young man safe. To see him pay for kiryu's slip up probably broke kiryu.

Rikiya died a young man full of potential, that earned Kiryu's respect, if you did Rikiya's special substory then he even proudly shares the same Ink as Kiryu.....and once again, someone dies to save him, just like Nishiki/Tachibana. Kashiwagi he didn't even get time to mourn considering there was a helicopter with a minigun bearing down on them, plus he was an older soldier that didn't specifically die just so Kiryu could live. Kiryu is broken and guilt ridden by this point.

You know what? I think I figured out why I like Japanese stuff so much. So much of it is entirely earnest. This whole melodrama was played totally seriously, and because of that it works. I had little context coming in, but I could feel my heartstrings being pulled. Even his desperate joke of ‘I think he got me’ feels like a man coping with his imminent death, not a sarcastic quip.

Yakuza 3's plot is good in concept but Sega completely botched the execution. We may not be 'at' Mine's Speech yet (which going by the Amount of Yakuza Games {especially if you count Kenzan and Ishin as Spiritual Prequels} now is canonically a Late Early Series Event Or the Exact Start of the 'Middle Period' of the Yakuza games which is nutty to think about.) But it is still the height of Irony that across the Entire Series taken as a Whole: There are moments across the whole Game series From Zero to 7 that refute each part of it. And I wish I remembered what was the title of the Video that Had Mine's Speech in 3 playing against the Backdrop of many Yakuza Events that contradict him...But I'm pretty sure Kiryu and the mourning of Rikiya is part of that refutation.

Personally, I just utilize combos but for the early game, learn to fish for light-light heavy (the gut punch) because if it lands, you can easily set up another combo and even wall bound the enemies. It’s not perfect but it makes it a lot more bearable until you get the Komaki stuff
