If ever a film is made that features the making of The Dark Knight, Stanley Tucci needs to play David S. Goyer. Love this series.

I love ALL of these great artist advice. I use most of them, but what I enjoy most is surprise. I just completed a screenplay where the villain, whom I had preconceived sort of a monster in the becomes a hero and is redeemed. This is the best feeling to go through as a writer who is also is an audience enjoying the actual film on screen. Thanks BAFTA.

Very informative series. As I am attempting to become a screenwriter, I find that I agree with the idea that characters must be allowed to "speak" to you so that you know what they'll do in your script. I don't believe that as a 'writer', I should force a character to do what I want them to do so that they'll fit into my plot outline. Interesting characters should bloom of their own uniqueness and personality which adds a rich credibility to your story. Does that make sense?

Of course my dear. And through the writing a hundred little things about them will add on to their basic function within the story. Like the way they have to scrape the nutty flakes off a dessert. Or how they come across rather smarmy at times when the conversation turns to foxhunting. Attack the blank canvas with courage I say. Your inner voice knows from day one whether it's quality or not.

This is the most practical advice I have have seen in a while. Everyone has their different approach to the process. The most useful ones for me are research and live with a character for a while before writing.

From what I understand, his writing process is he takes a job writing a sequel/adaptation of something, he half-asses the process is getting to know/understand that source material, thinks that's good enough, and then starts writing away.

David Goyer at 7.19 "the easier it becomes to write..." - The fact is that (for most people who care about it) writing is easy - getting anyone else to take notice? That's the gift.

Science fiction has never made it to the screen in its full glory? What about Solaris, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Back To The Future, Alien, Blade Runner, District 9, Inception and Empire Strikes Back (although you could argue Star Wars isn't science fiction).

Nicholas Ntaganda Have you read Philip K Dick? Asimov? Frank Herbert? Yeah, those are 6 great movies, but they're not SF in it's full glory. It would have gotten there if it wasn't for Star Wars.

+My Autobiography A Fanfic We'll just have to agree to disagree then. And by the way I've only read Dune and a few of Asimov's works. Still haven't gotten around to Phillip K. Dick, although I've been meaning to read "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" for years.
