The thing that is often forgotten is that Elite was not just the first open world game, it was also one of the first role playing games many people played. The thing about 'score being money' was massive. Your score was 'credits' and your character was you and the ship you piloted, and you could use credits to upgrade your ship for particular tasks; combat (guns, shields, missiles) or trading (cargo space). Plus I still have that Elite box you see at the start, and it contains a Novella, a spaceship user's manual, a ship identification chart and a key card. That is quite common today, but back then it was amazing... you started to see the backstory of the world and your character before you loaded the game!

So pleased that I found this game franchise - a genuine, intelligent and classy inventor. I'm not surprised I'm so impressed with Elite Dangerous and the fact I have invested so much time into it.
