Hi, Crystal! I love making Granny Squares! Maybe because my maternal grandma showed me how when I was 9 years old. I’m 76 years now and have recently gotten back to my crochet hooks, but just like riding a bike, you never forget how to crochet! I prefer using a crochet hook to join them just exactly like you just demonstrated. I, too, do the front/back hooking to get that extra finished look and to add extra texture. Very eye-pleasing and a great brainless chore while listening to my audiobooks. Thank you bunches for this easy tutorial for our newer crocheters. You are most encouraging, and you have a big heart. ((((Lotsa Hugs))))💝

Might start doing granny squares at some point, im working my way through different stitch methods at the moment, im currently working on 3 blankets each one with different stitching methods, one is the crocodile stitch, another is the seed stitch (alternating stitches in each one chain of a single and double stitche) and im starting a star stitch.

Thank you so much for this! My Grandma made me a crochet blanket about 14 years ago and it is coming undone. She passed away about two-and-a-half years ago. So I can't have her help me fix it, but now I can do it myself with the help of your video. Also I appreciate the granny square video! I am an 80s baby and I started making Neon granny squares my plan is to put a blanket together! I'm so excited!🤗 One more thing..you mentioned you would put a border around the granny squares do you happen to have a video on doing that? If not, if you ever have time to make a video I would greatly appreciate it.😁

I almost always use a continuous join as you go because it is so very convenient (creates a last round of each granny, while simultaneously joining the square to the next one, with only two ends to weave in when finished) but have never been completely happy with the stability of the join itself. Your style looks pretty simple too - while producing a very stable join! Thanks very much for posting this. ❤️ I’ll definitely be trying your way on my next granny square blanket!

There's a blanket that I've wanted to make for a while now that is made up of lots of 3 round granny squares in various shades of red, green, blue, yellow and purple and no border colour. It's just a bigger version of the squares you joined together in this video. I've been puzzling over how I would join them together and now here you are with the perfect method. Thank you! Apart from time, the main difference I see between the two ways you showed would be the amount of yarn needed for the join. The sewing method looks like it would use a lot less yarn.

I have always crocheted mine together but I crochet through front and back loops and have always worked with backsides together so I am working from the front of my squares. Some of my blankets looked wonky because I was not careful in deciding to make sure my rows all went the same direction. Oh well, ya gotta learn, right?. Have you ever had a blanket come apart that you have sewn due to it only being one thickness of yarn? Thanks for everything you do for your yarny peeps. You are loved. ❤️

I prefer using the JAYG method. It was a real game changer for me, and the blanket goes together so quickly! Before I learned that method, I would attach the squares in long strips, then I would sew the strips together. Good grief, so many ends to weave in, ugh! I saw a few slightly different techniques for the JAYG method. I liked Fiber Spiders the best, but I still tweaked it just a touch.

I'm in a group that makes blankets for the homeless and various charities. I use both the slip stitch and the sewing method. I prefer to crochet so there's less ends to weave in. If I get a stack of squares that don't have a color theme, I will pick a totally different color and do the " join as you go " method. This frames each square which I will also use in a final border for the blanket.
