If your corners have 3 chains (or 1) then you will need to adapt this method in one of two ways: 1) Assign either the 1st and 2nd chains or the 2nd and 3rd chains as the "corner ch2" and treat the other chain as if it were any other stitch. Your squares may be slightly skewed but if you are consistent in the chains you assign as the corners and potentially block your finished project you should still have the same look as if you did 2 chains. 2) Ignore the 2nd chain entirely, i.e. put your needle in through the first chain and out through the third chain. You squares will not be skewed but you will not have sharp right angles in your corners I recommend trying both and going with the method you prefer the look of. Remember there is no right or wrong in crochet, only preferences for different techniques!

I have just subscribed and then saved this excellent video. I’ve had a few crochet disasters over the years when granny square bedspreads that I’ve crocheted together, after a couple of years , have unraveled along the crocheted seams…….literally a never ending story! 😢 So now I always sew my squares together…….but I am never happy with that because the result looks thick and clumsy after all the hard work making the squares ( see Janie Crow Love is enough). Many thanks for this clear explanation of a truly useful stitch.
