I’m glad you said what you did about Reels and Hornpipes being almost exactly the same, the difference between cut time and 2/4 is how many bars are drawn on the notes…

Ahh..The ale....my band played this in 2018 at the All Irelands and took 1st place in 3B. First U.S band to EVER win in this Grade. St Columcille (column-keel) United United Gaelic PB Kearny, NJ. Great videos...keep em going. I'll start this method asap after my palm laceration heals.

Nice win there! Let us know how this method work for you!

Great tutorial! As a classical trained oboist, I do a very similar process to get technical passages down. It's a great way to approach more technical music.

Thanks! I wish someone had taught me to approach technical passages like this when I was on clarinet/classical sax.
@walkernick864 жыл бұрын
@@MattWillisBagpiper ha ha yeah it’s a very effective method. Lol... your sax and clarinet teachers kept it a secret. :-) That’s why it’s great that you are sharing teachings such as this for free. 👍☺️ I guess as a piper you really need a way of approaching technical stuff like reels as it makes up a large proportion of your repertoire.

can you do a video on the best moisture control systems in the market of bagpipes
@MattWillisBagpiper5 жыл бұрын
I'll definitely be reviewing moisture control systems in the future! The biggest issue is the sheer number of systems on the market and that's there's no way I could afford to purchase them all...

Love your videos! you should have way more subs!

Thank you! I'm working on getting more subs. It's a long, tough road, but I'm not going anywhere. New video up tomorrow! Share this with the pipers in your life and get them to subscribe!

Just love your videos. Always sound reasoning behind each one. I'm now 80 and have been playing the pipes forever but still find new things to learn. Can you tell me which metronome app you use please. I've looked but can't find it anywhere. Thanks

Thanks! Glad you found the channel! The metronome I use is Tempo by Frozen Ape

Great video! Can you tell me how many beats per minute reels should ideally be played at?
@MattWillisBagpiper4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the tune, but anywhere from 72 bpm to around 100 bpm. I’d say hi 70s to low 80s is a solid and snappy reel.

I'd say that the bottom line of this system is: Getting your fingers to do what YOU want them to do and not them going on their own volition. . GREAT thanks

Well said, my friend.

@@MattWillisBagpiper aaarrrrrggghhhhh I nearly wish I had missed this video. I've played Mason's Apron for many a year. Now I think I've been "slaughtering" it. Attempting the snapped I had to bring it down to 45 BPM and it's proving really stressful. As I said, I guess my fingers have been off to their own volition.
@MattWillisBagpiper5 жыл бұрын
I have felt the same about many tunes I thought I had down, but if you can't snap the rhythm, well, you don't have it like you thought you did!
@LesliePiper5 жыл бұрын
@@MattWillisBagpiper hate to say this but you're right and I'll have to go back on all my tunes and be more critical. At least you have given me a great, and simple, tool to separate the wheat from the chaff.
