*The sound of bagpipes invoke something within us we'll never be able to explain. No matter where in the world you are, you feel it too.*

And , piper's heritage(s) extend all over the world ; wherever men have watched over their flocks , they've invented the flutes , the harps & the pipes out of the materials the flock provided , seems somehow intrinsiciy 'in tune with nature' that the animals they watched over were comforted by instruments their fellows provided ! ( The exact wordage escapes me at the moment , my mental drawers are in disarray ! )

600 pipers were wounded, 500 bagpipe players died while rallying the troops into battle. They received an extra penny a day to play their pipes. For the most part, the bagpipes skirled out the regimental tunes to get the men moving, tunes such as Highland Laddie, Bluebonnets Over the Border, and the Minstrel Boy. You can’t have been round the battlefields in the Somme and not shed a tear listening to this.

Was born in Australia (to post war immigrant Glaswegian parents) lived back in Scotland [Glasgow] a short while in the early 60's [in my childhood years] and have been back numerous occasions since [plenty of rellies]. To this day, the sound of amassed pipes and drums can quickly have me with a tight lump in my throat and tears running down my face (not ashamed), especially when they play stuff like Amazing Grace, the Black Bear, O Flower o' Scotland, The Dark Isle, etc. Must be in the blood or something. But you have to admit when you listen to them that they come close. Here's what I mean about the first nation drum circles. It absolutely exemplifies national identity and pride to the degree the drum and pipes do, imo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGXadJeMqdKjnKM

National PRIDE is alive and well in Scotland. No one walked away, no one took a knee in protest or raised a voice in protest. God Bless Scotland. Love the Pipes.
@worldchronicles48184 жыл бұрын
Playing the pipes at one time was a sign of defiance towards the English who persecuted and wanted to subdue the Scots. No different then taking a knee nowadays. You have to remember that Black folks have only really been free in this country for about 50 years. All the way up into the mid 80's some black communities lived in terror of groups like the KKK and such groups where often made up of local and state officials. More then any other threat to our freedom The US federal government is the biggest threat against freedom in America. My National pride runs thick, thats why i don't nor will i ever support the Federal government in the form that we know it as today. The federal government has a track record of of doing evil and heinous things not only to foreigners but to its own soldiers and us citizens. My National Pride is strictly reserved for the volunteer soldier and the workers and pioneers that made this country great. All most all Elected officials are complete trash. That includes Trump, Obama the Clinton and Bush family.

I was 12 years old, putting together a model car. There is a blank spot in my memories, I don't remember the sequence of events. My mom had to tell me what happened. While building the model car, the Black Watch began playing on a TV show. I literally dropped the model, ran into the living room and stood transfixed until the performance was over. It moved me enough that when I saw my car was a pile of useless broken plastic pieces I just said "Oh well." When my dad got home from work that night she immediately confronted him. "I don't care what your father says. He needs to know his ancestry." Up until that time, I just knew I was an American. When Grandpa immigrated to the U.S. as soon as they got off the boat he told his wife "We are now American. We speak English and English only." I started learning some of my history, my ancestry. The pipes have never failed to reach deep into me. Even before I was aware of being of Scottish descent.

of all flashmob videos, this is my favorite. they way they pulled it off and the tune selection and the tightness of the band. best damn piping i've heard in my life from a band. in these times of social distancing and worry over what's happening here, i have come back to this video to help lift my spirits. there must be something genetic in the celtic/pictish spirit for the pipes. they draw me like nothing else does. my family has been here long enough to help settle this country, when the frontier was just off the shoreline. we left scotland to get away from the british crown. but i hear the pipes and something comes over me. alba gu brath.

Fourth generation Canadian. My father's folk were from Scotland. I have no idea why it happens, but the pipes stir something in me that brings me to tears (in a good way).

I was flying from U.S to U.K and one of my stops was in Dublin, Ireland. And there was so many different types of music being played. It was truly amazing and I loved hearing all that heritage in person. Keep up the good work and stay proud of where your roots grow!

I am a Hong Konger who still crave for/miss such gorgeous bagpipe shows badly!!! It was always part of the military parades for the Queen's Birthday in April every year when the weather in HK was quite hot!!! It always boggles me how they could stand such intense heat in their thick costumes!!! Besides this and above all, I miss the superb British governance before the switch of sovereignty back in 1997!!!

Hk Lau - Thats why we Brits like the Chinese Hong Kong immigrants into UK more than any other. FAR more. Only the Sikhs adapt as quickly and completely into British way of life. We miss Hong Kong too

Hk Lau, I am American. It is currently fashionable in my country for Liberals to decry "colonial powers" of all stripes. I, for one, do not hold with that fashion. Without glossing over the offenses most colonial powers, including the British, committed, I sincerely believe much of the world was a safer, more humane and just civilization for subjects in many of the former colonies administered by the British.

As a teenager I was so privileged to be a part of The Black Watch drum and bugle corps from Auburn WA. It was an amazing experience that I will carry forever. The dedication, discipline and countless hours of rehearsal are returned in the sense of pride you feel being part of an amazing collaboration and experienced something rare enough that you take with you for a lifetime. Go get'em ladies from Hell!

The Bagpipe man who played for my Mom & Dad's funeral happened to be black and was an excellent player ! Knowing the history of the 'Black Irish' , and we both joking about , & asked him since there was the Black Irish if he wasn't a Black Scotsman ! We had a good laugh . That was in 2010 , at the Riverside Calif. Arlignton Miltary Memorial site , across the highway from the USAF's March Field .

Even as a kid the bagpipes stirred my soul. I did not learn of my Scottish heritage until 7/4/20 and being 53% Scottish it finally makes sense! Now at 53 a lot of other questions have been answered since then as well! Relations go back to the Buie and Briar families in Scotland. Able to trace the Buie family back to 1405.

I'd give anything to be a place with a sudden Scottish Flash Mob! The excitement, my skin tingles, heart jumps a bit & I get tears of happiness every time I hear Scottish music! So proud of my Scottish heritage! Born in Huntington, West Virginia, USA & live in Lilburn, Georgia USA. The annual Scottish Music Festival in Stone Mountain is something I look forward to & the closest I will ever get to Scotland, but oh my gosh the deep hearfelt connection I get at the festival! 💯😀😍❤
