Bahia del Sol, El Salvador - Crossing the sandbar in a sailboat into the estuary April 2024.

In this episode I document crossing the entry into Bahia del Sol, with 2 other vessels. We are guided in by a pilot boat which is operated by Bill and his helper. Bill is the local contact for crossing the sandbar, as it is nearly impossible and extremely reckless to attempt the crossing without a guide. Recently, SV Rum Truffle suffered a tragic accident, and sank upon entry. DISCLAIMER: Although being guided in by a pilot boat is a relatively a safe operation, using the pilot does not eliminate inherent risks of loss of vessel and/or life. You as a skipper should make the final determination whether you have the proper training, and vessel to make the crossing.

I imagine it must be one helluva special place that skippers are willing to take a chance on crossing that sand bar. The juice must be worth the squeeze!!

High slack. You should have about 12’ under you if you have a sailboat.
