It wasn't always free. It was once called Sonar, and Cakewalk was the company that made it. When its parent company Gibson went under in 2018, a company called BandLab rescued the product, renamed it to Cakewalk, and released it free of charge.

Good tutorial while some steps are a bit fast (and therefore unclear) for people who just opened the program for the first time. I believe that people who are familiar with DAW's love it. My first impression is that the program isn't as intuitive as it could and should be. Right from the get go it's a hassle to get it to make some sound. Then 6 minutes into the tutorial I want to make some noise with the bass guitar, just to find out that below a certain note on the piano roll it just doesn't work at all. It took a while to figure that out. I'll keep recording live instruments and align the tracks in the Fairlight page of DaVinci Resolve. This is more work, but much less frustrating.

Unfortunately, if you don't know some of the terminology, this will be very confusing. When someone says "choose the correct this or that", a person may not know what the correct setting is for what you're telling them to do. I had this problem over and over! I have to go "bare bones basic" which will include what settings to start out with, connections and then go from there. Just my feedback. Thanks

Tbh I don't use DAW. Worried about loss in sound quality. Anytime I heard a DAW sound I didn't think the sound quality was very good. Just like the sounds on this video. Also yes I am a musician but I had cakewalk on my pc for over a year then eventually uninstalled it as I just couldn't get my head around it and wasn't able to do anything. I just record each thing into my in built sequencer and the quantize it. Then play it back into movie edit program. Do this for each track. Tbh it is pretty handy as then when I do the video I have all the music on the same program. But I was told at school I would never be able to read and write as my concentration span is not very good. But I gotba separate tutor and proved them wrong. So following instruction videos are not going to help me tbh. You see the problem is I love playing synths I am only interested in making music I really need someone else to record it properly for me because my concentration span on instruction videos I lose interest within the first few seconds. Not doing it purposely but I just can't concentrate on what you are saying only for so long. It is really a learning issue I have.
