This video takes you through my bail out back, not to be confused with a bug out bag. A friend of mine on KZbin, Sootch00 would likely call this a Get Home' Bag. Whatever you'd like to call it, this bail out bag lives in my car and it is a quck grab that allows me to disappear into the wilderness for days on end and survive.

ZORG Also handy for thawing fire hydrants in the dead of winter. Pull the side cap, push lighted flare through to other cap, withdraw halfway and let it burn its way to the bottom. Just a tip from your friendly neighborhood fireman.

This is a great idea. I think half the people stuffing their bags with kit would rethink if they actually used them. I started with all kinds of ideas then tried to break it down into sections (still too much crap) so I stepped back and went "what is this bag designed to do and for how long?" For me it's getting home and at most two nights out. Really skinned it down to water food and shelter. Also made it so it's part of my everyday carry. The bag is almost superfluous as most of the items get put in my pockets if I use it. Water and shelter in the bag. No fish kit, no huge amounts of anything. My BOB rig is different. If I have to use THAT then I am in a whole world of pain!! Remember: "Pain is your friend. It says 'you are still alive!' Learn to live with it!"

I would add a good multitool.very useful for the small amount of weight that it adds.
@rocirish76
@rocirish76 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed. My primary issue, in fact my only issue with this bail out bag is a glaring lack of tools. Granted, with a sturdy fixed blade knife you can get away with not having a hatchet... but at the very least every bug out, bail out, get home, or INCH bag should have a multi tool and a blade that one can process firewood with.
@ssu7653
@ssu7653 5 жыл бұрын
@@rocirish76 Why would those bags need any blade? Its supposed to supplement your EDC (that you by definision carry every day anyway), if you have a knife there you dont need more stored in your bag. This is just like he have ammo but no gun in the bag...
@rocirish76
@rocirish76 5 жыл бұрын
@@ssu7653 primarily, because redundancy is never a bad thing when it comes to emergency preparations. A multitool and a fixed blade should be in every bag. A multitool and a folding blade should be a part of edc. The multitool on your person could get lost in a scuffle, accident, or evasion... the back up is in the bag, secure. And the folder is handy to have on your person at all times, but if you need to go to the bag for a blade, you may have bigger fish to fry than a folder can(or should) handle. I carry a karambit, but I'm going to use a fixed blade if I need to process wood for some reason, or need to cut my way through something.

Good stuff. Nice kit. One recommendation i suggest is having other food in addition to freeze dried. (Even just a couple protein bars). The reason for that being if u are short on water sources u will have to save the water u have for drinking. Leaving u with no food. I live in a desert environment so that issue is a likely problem for me. So i pack both freeze dried and ready to go food that requires no water. Something i think is worth considering.

I always like to suggest wool clothing when possible due to the warm while wet and natural antibacterial properties of the material. On that note, I always thought having a nice pair of wool socks, and if space allows, hiking boots, or sneakers that you can comfortably put many miles in, is smart in any kit, particularly a get home bag. Because many people work in a professional setting and don’t always wear optimal footwear for walking. And on that note, Karl from a Tactical Rifleman made a good comment that close toed shoes are a must for all the women loved ones in our lives; because they especially are likely to be caught in distress wearing the most inclement shoes, heels, Sandler, or whatever form over function footwear.

@@Jacob-ft3oz That does not apply if you live in the southern parts of the country. Cotton can be quite versatile and comfortable, most of the year. ETA: Good wool socks do rock, year round, though.
@Jacob-ft3oz
@Jacob-ft3oz 5 жыл бұрын
@@darrellbaxley9315 I have lived in the south my entire life. During the winters it rains constantly. If your cotton shirt, pants, or socks get wet they will NOT dry out without a fire. Cotton is hydrosorbic(I think that's the right word) so the fibers absorb the water and they actually pull more heat away from your body than they keep in. You are better off being naked than having wet cotton on. If there is even a slight chance you could get wet you do not need to carry cotton clothing. Some kind of synthetic or wool is all we ever carry when we go backpacking. Your feet are the first thing to get wet normally so we always carry wool socks and an extra pair so one pair can dry by the fire at night.

I use several large clear plastic seal-able bags for most if not all of the items in the bag. In addition to the moisture protection the bags allow me to organize the items and you can use the bags separately to hold additional water, tinder, wild berries or whatever I would come across. It also helps keep things water resistant during water crossings or rain storms. Just a thought. Thanks for the information, keep it coming!!

I do a lot of overnight and section hiking, so that's where this advice comes from. I'm like -0.5% operator. I would personally ditch the Life bottle (and I like their products) and replace the Sawyer bag and the bottle with two Smart Water bottles. They're a lighter setup. Use one as a "dirty" bottle and the other as a "clean" bottle. You can drink from the dirty bottle using a Sawyer Mini if you're in a hurry and transfer clean water to the "clean" bottle if you're not. They're also significantly more durable than those Sawyer bags. Plus, once you dump dirty water into that Life bottle, you've essentially negated the purpose of your Sawyer setup, since you can't really clean out that bottle well enough to not get the Hershey squirts in the field. Just my .2 cents. I really appreciated your setup. Party on, my dude.

Living in the plains of the midwest, 550 might not be AS necessary but maybe a folding shovel.... if you're new to bug out just remember there's no ONE way. Good set up. I have the same bag and it is rock solid. As requested here are a couple recommendations. 1: Thread all your zip ties onto one of the zip ties to make them more manageable and slim profile for one of your side pouches. 2: if you have a radio and compass etc. Bring a notebook and pen. 3: make a quick ready to go stake out set up so you can easily put your poncho over your hammock with a quick premade tie out kit. See Corporals Corner youtube vid for example. Other than that I've seen all the other vids of what you carry and you have a well layered kit system. Oh, and your personal skill set trumps most comments made about what you "should have". My suggestions are to make what you have more efficient. Your a good man John. Thanks for being an insightful and sometimes humorous part of this community. God bless you and your family.

John; I rock that exact bag as my daily. Fantastic pack! In the shoulder straps of that bag are 2 little slits down where the leather parts are. There are small leather "flaps" that allow insertion of industrial zip ties into the shoulder straps...so if you need a new "tactical" belt because yours just broke (lol) you can slip them out and use them. I think it fits up to about 12 inchers. That backpack has all kinds of neat tricks!

Consider your location. In a desert city you need a sillcock / 4 way / water key, a 2-3L water container and a head + shoulder cover - since staying hydrated and combating the heat are 100% your #1 priorities. When it’s high noon in the summer in Phoenix the heat will KILL you before you get home. Might sound dramatic, but if you don’t live here you won’t understand - and we always prepare for the worst right?

Look I dont mean any disrespect but you obviously dont work outside. Tell that to a roofer in Texas or a man spreading asphalt in florida. Again no disrespect but most healthy people are alot tougher than you give them credit for. May not be fun though.

Fuh Q Not any more I don’t. When is the last time it hit 120 degrees in Texas or Florida? And what is the relevance of wether or not people are tough? Dehydration doesn’t give a shit about how tough you are. You’re still human.

@@johnwicksfoknpencil Some years back I did some work in the deserts of West Texas. It was regularly 110 F. Worked outside all day with fire retardant jump suit and gear. While it may suck, it's definitely doable. I have been to Phoenix numerous times and never seen it 120F. It was comparable to New Mexico and West Texas.

Mad Martigan Great! How does this change what I’ve said that you need water to survive? Or did you do all of this without hydration too?
@madmartigan8774
@madmartigan8774 5 жыл бұрын
@@johnwicksfoknpencil I agree you need what but full body covering is far better than just head and shoulders covering. When to much skin is exposed the dry air robs your body of moisture. If you are fully clothed, your clothes soak up sweat and cool the skin. It may not feel like it but long sleeves actually helps. I also think you exaggerated a bit with the 120F comment. Other than that, I agree that water is critical.
