Mr. John, I want to compliment you on your humble approach to sharing your experience based tactical opinions. It is very interesting to me that you young cats make sure that you have your electronics (a humorous observation by a guy who learned land nav with a compass or not, and a topo or not). Obviously, I need to update my "EDC" bag. Move over snickers bars and make room for my new tablet. Not only did I come away from your video more tactically proficient but, my old "briefcase" now has a much cooler name (EDC bag)! "ODLNT" (old dog learning new tricks). Peace Out!

I hate to agree with a jerk like this ComocosonoEWL, but it's not very well camouflaged. That said, I don't think that was the point. It's clearly a well-made pack, but not an obviously super-tactical pack with MOLLE all over it- a single spot on the back with a Velcro spot is not super-tac. Best camouflage I've ever seen for an EDC/Bugout bag is a blank black pack with Anarchy and hippie patches/buttons sewn on. It's stupid but it works.

Hey John! Something that pairs very well with fire steel: braided jute twine soaked in wax. It'll take a spark and give you fire, it's waterproof, small, light weight and is so easy and cheap to make it's stupid. You can thread it through a small metal tube (I use pieces from old pens) so you don't burn your fingers, and it makes it easy and convenient to extinguish. This KZbinr named wintertrekker has a video on it. I never have a fire steel without it now.

I love ready all these comments. only a few can focus on the objective of this video. the only thing i would recommend is more nutrients. in my eyes the point of an EDC is to be able to make it to your primary bug out bag if SHTF. if you work 15 miles from home and you have to navigate home without a vehicle, you may wants more than 1 cliff bar. oh and don't forget the wobble, i don't go anywhere without my woobie. other than that this is the best and most practical EDC bag i've seen.

Just one other comment- the MRE heater- I remember when they first stared putting them in the MRE's They were awesome!!! We did the same thing. It kept a us warm on a lot of cold days and nights in a lot of craphole places. There were a few knuckelheads that ended up stripping (when too much water was added) and it got WAY hot. Most of those times we ended up having to eat cold MRE's. Such fond memories. ......

Hello John. May I recommend you store your phone and power cables using the "roadie wrap" method? You can secure the ends to the cable by tying them with a twist tie (commonly found on the packaging of store-bought bread). I work in technology and we find that a lot of people store cables that don't work because the wires inside have been bent out of shape. Just a friendly heads-up so that you can charge your phone in case of emergency.

Not sure if there would be room with the laptop but, have you thought about a soft armor pannel? They are relatively light and in the event of an active shooter situation, you could put the pack on backwards and use it as a plate carrier. If it's a car jacking, put it in front of your body like a shield and drive off, return fire, water tickles your fancy.
