absolutely right Gary. I recently got the mark 1 version second hand and for a very good price. it is absolutely brilliant and now sits on my main camera body almost permanently and could easily be the only lens I ever need x

Anyone can do a review checking sharpness, but it’s difficult to make a real world use review and you succeeded! The reason to use a zoom is the versatility, so thank you for providing examples of many different genres. Also some good tips for using a zoom lens. Thanks, I may change from Olympus to Panasonic!

Great advice. Thanks. I have been considering that lens or the 12-60. Right now this one is significantly less expensive than the 12-60 and the constant f2.8 clinches it for me.

Hi ! Like your channel and your way of presentation. I am enthusiast and purchased gx85 and 14 140. I have lx100 also. Is the output of lx100 lense and 12-35 is equal? I mean are they equal sharp? If I have lx100 then is there any requirement of 12 35
@Gary_W5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sanjay, thanks for the comment. I think that the LX100 with its built in lens and the 12-35 is almost identical. In terms of image quality, you are getting almost the same result between the two. The main benefit of using a 12-35 on a dedicated as opposed to using the LX100 is that 12-35 doesn't require electronic motor to retract and start, and that it is weather sealed and will not gather dust inside the camera sensor like the LX100. Hope this helps :)

Brilliant. The removal of the distraction of 'better' lenses is an important point. Use your time to take, edit and display shots, not shop for shiny things :-)

Thank you very much for the comment! I really think both are great, but for Panasonic bodies, the Pan 12-35 2.8 will give you the benefit of Dual I.S for still photography, and slightly smoother video stabilization, especially on G85.

Great review. I just got this mark 1 version lens. Does yours make small clicking noise when zooming in and out? It looks like the noise is an aperture ring doing its job to keep it constant f2.8 and I hear some people having same issue. I was wondering if this is the case with you as well.
@Gary_W3 жыл бұрын
Hello Lee, thank you for the kind words! I do have the same problem, it doesn't bother me so much as the clicking sound doesn't get recorded in the video, and the lens still works just fine. Cheers 😊

@Gary_W5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, thank you for the comment! I have used multiple filters(ND, CPL, Variable Circular ND) with this lens from many different brands. They all work just fine, no vignetting or any other issues, as long as you get the ones which has 58mm filter thread. Hope this helps! Cheers :)
@techazon47322 жыл бұрын
how is the noise performance of this lens?
@Gary_W2 жыл бұрын
The noise isn't dependent on the lens but on the sensor of the camera. The lens itself is quite sharp, constrasty, and good quality.

Hi, just got a Olympus Pen-f...is this lens still worth it? or do you recommend a different lens since obviously I can't use the image stabilization on this. Or is lens the only one with a constant 2.8
@Gary_W4 жыл бұрын
Hello, congrats on getting a Pen F, it's a good rangefinder style camera. There is also Olympus 12-40mm f2.8 that's as good if not better than Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8. Pen F already has built in sensor stabilization so it's no problem. Hope this helps :)

Hi Trill Estate, I am not aware of such adapter that can be attached on a Micro Four Thirds lens. But if you have a Canon or Nikon lens, you can attach a Metabones adapter that will compensate for the aperture and focal length. Hope this helps :)

Gary - thanks for the review . With respect I think your praise for this lens might be a bit OTT . (I have my Gen II mounted on the G9) . I'm not a pro but I do use it in my business. IMHO its a 'goldilocks' lens , a good all rounder , not a great all rounder. Is there a great all rounder ? Maybe the OLY 12-100 but its an F4 . Yes for sure the 12-35 is a good travel and landscape lens BUT I wouldnt say its a great portrait lens , Plenty good but not amazing like the Leica 42.5 which I also own . I know that comparison is unfair . Video guys love the 12-35 for a whole host of reasons so if you're a video guy this is a home run , but if you're an enthusiast photographer that likes to blow out the background on a portrait then you should probably look elsewhere, maybe the 10-25mm 1.7? . What the 12-35 lens excels at is what I call a 'beater lens' i.e a lens that's not so expensive that you'd be afraid to bring it into a hostile environment like a construction site (where I spend a lot of time each day) yet optically very good with great AF ability , yet not so expensive that your wouldn't cry all the way home if you destroyed it. There ... that sums it up "the greatest lens you could ever own, that you wouldnt care too much about if you wrecked it"

Great Great lense but must be said f2.8 in micro four third is not really a life savior in low light. F1.7 is Kinda minimum value
@Gary_W Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! I think even f1.7 sometimes is not enough. Luckily there are now denoise softwares such as Lightroom Denoise AI, DXO Pure RAW, that can help reduce high ISO low light noise.

Hello AD Zad, thank you for the comment. I haven't personally tried the Oly 12-40 myself, but on all of my Panasonic bodies (GX7, GX8, G85), the 12-35mm autofocus works very well, at least fast enough for single shot photography needs.
