I have a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and bought a BAK Revolver X4s fall of 2018. My rolling cover is an older model than this one on the video. I have not had any major problems with the cover. It even keeps out the water fairly well. Six years, and i am satisfied. The only recent issue is a felt strip that is designed to hold the slats from separating has come loose from the underside of the cover. I contacted BAK. Even though i am out of warranty, BAK said they have a newer model of the cover that uses a newer technology for holding the individual slats together, and they wanted to 'do right by me' and has replaced my cover for free. In a couple days, when i am off work, i am replacing the cover. Just roll it up; undo the 4 bolts; remove; put the new cover on; bolt it on; roll it out and done. I have put a lot of miles on my truck, hauling belongings and cargo between Pennsylvania and Georgia, and Florida, through rain, snow, heat, and scorching sun. I am happy with the performance of my BAK Revolver.

I installed a Bak Revolver 4X on my 2018 F-150 when new. It looked great and I was pleased with it. Now at 3 years old the covering material has started to crack and split along the rear slats. The rear slats also tend to jam up when folded and make it difficult to fold flat to close & latch it down. You didn't mention the price, but I paid about $1,000 for mine, 3 yrs ago. This is quite expensive for a top that has these issues after only 3 years. I am in Michigan and this truck is garage kept and doesn't stay out in the sun for long periods of time. I also want to mention that the water leaking in at the tailgate may not let much water in when on a level ground, but if you are not parked level, and the front of the truck is low, quite a bit of water can accumulate at the front of the bed.

So much easier to open and close than a tri-fold and they roller cover has less water then any of my tri-folds. The last two MX4's I have had has a slow leak right in the middle of the cover. Bakflip has replaced it twice and same issue. I too agree I don't expect them to be 100% waterproof (then are not) but when going to the beach suits cases go in the middle and beach chairs, coolers go around the tailgate. great video...God bless

My truck has a bifold hard cover. Easy to install, has a lock on the front panel and a lock on the back panel. The front panel folds open, the back panels fold open for one or both or fold entire cover on the front panel and locked down. I live in Michigan it still works.

Had an earlier version of this cover on my 2015 Ram 2500 which I transferred to my 2019 Ram 3500. Love this thing 90%. The only thing I didn’t like about it was the older versions had buckles on nylon straps on the exterior front of the cover which is what the interior straps/buckles connected to when the cover was rolled up. This worked great except that the exterior buckle would flap around in the wind between the bed and the cab when the cover was rolled out. The buckle would flop around hitting the cab and the bed causing an irritating clatter when driving. I fixed the problem by glueing some Velcro on the buckle and the cover and sticking the buckles to the cover when not being used. This worked great, but looked kinda like a like it was… a fix for a poor design. I see they have fixed that problem now with a more intigrated exterior buckle. My truck was recently broken into when the scum jumped up on top of the cover and kicked in the back window of my truck. Unfortunatly, the rear window wasn’t nearly as tough as the cover since the window shattered easily, but the cover was unscathed by the thief jumping on it! I just ordered a new BAK Revolver X4s!

I have had this cover on my tundra for almost a year now. It has been replaced once under warranty because several of the aluminum slats came unhinged and the cover would not lay flat or lock down. Fortunately the manufacturer came good on the warranty and I had a new one in just a few days. The other issue I have with this cover is it does not like to roll in the winter when ice and snow come in contact with it. So if you need to roll this cover and you live in an area that actually gets winter then this is not the cover for you. I may be replacing mine, but I haven't found a suitable replacement yet.

@@jaroslaw6080 what is the issue with winter weather with the MX4 vs this cover?
@jaroslaw60802 жыл бұрын
@@tommeier5714 . Material mx4 is made of is the problem. Water stays on top of the cover and freezes. It’s impossible to remove ice that builds up, specially when it’s snowing also. Surface of mx4 isn’t completly flat like a window, that’s why ice sticks to it like glue. Won’t work to scrape it. Now that doesn’t sound like a big problem until you read the manual which states you cannot open it when there’s ice on the cover. Doesn’t say why but guessing you will damage it and then your warranty won’t cover it. Where i live temperature is close to freezing or below most of winter so snow melts or sometimes it rains and then it all freezes. Maybe if you live in Canada and have real winter everyday it won’t be that bad but still i will never buy anything from BAK again cause it’s not waterproof and there was no info about it when i ordered mine. There’s a simple reason to why they don’t mention it. Hope it helps to make your decision.

I have the X4 and like it a lot. I see yours has some improvements. At the tail end of the left and right flexible weatherstripping has some rigid flaps to keep the weatherstripping down, I wish they did that on the front as well. I see along the left and right underside, they removed the felt and replaced it with what looks like rubber or plastic. That is so your skin on your hand doesn’t get pinched in the pivot points of the slats when closing the cover.
@ruffxm3 жыл бұрын
The "S" version addressed many of those concerns (X4S). It doesn't help prior X4 owners, but I was impressed that Bak learned the weak points and made improvements on newer models. They replaced the felt with harder, rubberized plastic, improved the end-caps where it latches and improved the clamps that lock it in the rolled-up position.
@kiwiaudio8462 Жыл бұрын
Although thats true about finger pinching, the main function of the felt, and now rubber, is to not allow the aluminum slats to rub on the vinyl when you roll it up. The felt on my X2 was its biggest drawback, peeling off inside the first year of ownership. I wonder if BAK addressed the curved front edge of the RAM beds which is another failure point with my X2.
@kevinw1287 Жыл бұрын
I recently saw the upgraded one and noticed the bare aluminum underneath is gone, which it also appeared in the video. I imagine they coated the bare aluminum so when the cover is down, items in the truck bed might rub the cover and don’t get black or dark gray from being in contact with the cover. In addition, when the cover is rolled up, it won’t rub bare aluminum onto the topside of the cover.

I did love the safety aspect of the cover not so much on your water test from the car wash. Im sure that if it was just a down pour the water leakage would be none or way less then the car wash. I have a different cover for my truck that I failed to add a foam strip at the front of the bed. At car washes I get some water leakage but its way way less then you showed on yours. For the amount of money that you paid the safety aspect is great for a cover I think that it could have been better on the car wash test but like I said it is probably non existent in a regular rain storm. Oh and while my cover doesnt have a better security it was way cheaper. I just bought it for improving my gas milage which it did add very little lol.

I’ve had mine for three years and love it. I see two improvements that address my issues with it. 1) the ribbing bumpers have been upgraded - they were a cloth material and the glue disintegrated. I removed it 2) the corners closest to the tailgate have been reinforced with plastic pieces. On mine the rubber seal that runs across the top rails tends to have a very slight rise from curling. Not a big issue just as esthetically unsightly. I might look into retrofitting if it’s possible.

The company replaced both under warranty. The second cover I’ve had for two years. The glue holding the felt onto the underside has released and the felt has come off, and there is a 5 inch split in the top material right in a seam between two ribs. This seems like the best choice! I had the retrax on my old 2006 Sierra with the 6.5" bed so I didn't mind that front box so much. With the 5.10" bed I'd like all the space possible. My truck sits outside all the time - how do you think the material will hold up to the sun and contaminants and bird poop?

Great point I have a six and a half foot bed and I was going to actually recommend to anybody who who is hauling their bike around the six and a half foot bed and then you can put any cover you want on there and you're not limited in your options at all

Great detailed video, way better than any others I’ve seen. I was wondering if you could do an update soon on how it’s holding up and if there are any issues you’ve had pop up

I’m on my second Revolver (Previously Roll-x). They work well. Dolly hey don’t stand up to the elements though. They rip and fall apart. Bummer. It’s the only one I can use that will clear my RV when it’s hitched on my short bed f350. Perhaps I’ll need to do more research because 3.5 years each is not long enough, IMO.

Nice review. Every truck owner has their specific needs. Personally I looked at a ton of covers and decided on my 2014 to go with the Rollin Lok and ended up putting a retrax on my Denali. The retrax with some weather seal on the outer edges of the tailgate is the most water tight cover I've ever had.

I have the Truxedo Pro15x, I love it, looks very similar and doesn't leak!
@GearsGadgets3 жыл бұрын
The X15 is a Velcro secure system that can be easily lifted on the sides by snoops and the cover is just fabric and could be cut into just as easily. Not saying it’s not a good cover but the only similarity is that they are both tonneau covers, aside from that the X4S is significantly more premium in terms of level of security which is why it costs twice as much.
@leeleew75243 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wasn't making a direct comparison, just commenting on the low profile look, that is a great looking cover and appears very secure, I believe Truxedo has a similar one, I thought about upgrading but as you point out it is about twice the price.

oh wow this is a newer version. i almost got the older one with bare underside, but the fabric came apart pretty quick, and my bak f1 didn't age well so i didn't wanna deal with that. i prefer the rolling ones, not a fan of the trifolds. i like the sentry i have on there now, especially the canvas vs vinyl, but i do like being able to close tailgate with cover down. hmm, not sure if it's "older", but x2 was one i saw. this one looks much nicer.

They are great for one year in florida then no matter how much 303 you put on them they shrink and shrink. I got a replacement but it did the same thing. I am saving for a Paragon next. Going to break out the duct tape in the mean time.

I purchased this cover about 3 years ago. I have had to replace the top cover three times with my final one now trash. These are NOT good in hot weather conditions. The vinyl top shrinks and literally the whole end starts to fall apart. One of the weakest point is the plastic end covers at the tailgate, They break right off and impossible to re- attach. I had high hopes for the cover but done with BAK . Spend the extra money and go with a retractable aluminum cover.

I love my DiamondBack HD cover. IMHO, it can't be beat with looks, strength, and security. But, I do love that you get access to the full bed easily. For me, I have to know ahead of time that I need full access, then it takes me about 15 minutes if I'm by myself to remove the cover. Great review by the way.

Totally agree. My diamond back has been perfect. More secure than my cab. No water or weather intrusion. Four bolts and it’s off my truck.

Comparing the car wash segments between the BAK Revolver X4s and the Leer HF650M, the Leer handled the high pressure water intrusion much better imo!

I ordered one for my Ram 2500. It was about a half inch two narrow in the middle section of the cover and would not lock down. The second one was about a foot too narrow and the third one was the same. I called and they didn’t seem to care at all. I got my money back and went elsewhere.

You missed 3 important issue....1) No mention of locking the cover in relation to the tail gate i.e. if the tail gate is unlocked, so is the cover. I have a retractable bed cover that can lock from the outside and prevents the tailgate from opening regardless if the tail gate locked or unlocked. 2) No mention of if the cover can be positioned anything less than full open without it rolling closed in the slipstream. 3) You claim any water intrusion at the tail gate will run down the back of the tail gate and out the bottom. Here in the West we have hills and water runs down hill. Clearly in your car wash video. Water is shown coming forward in the bed. So...going down slopes the water will run forward. Better have your non waterproof elevated on 2x4...etc.

I have this bed cover and it does not hold up to heat. I live in Las Vegas, the cover did not last 1 summer. This cover has way too many parts that are glued, and ALL OF THEM FAIL in the heat. First the 2 inner liners to avoid from burning hands when rolling open detached because its just glued, and that failed. Then the glue and rubber seal of the area closest to the rear window shrunk due to heat, and that ruined the entire vinyl, rubber seal and gasket. Also the entire top vinyl is glued to the actual aluminum tabs, so when the heats hits, it melts the glue causing the tabs to get misaligned and the tabs start pinching on top of each other and the cover does not close properly. And the worse is that water seals from each side is glued to the vinyl, so when the vinyl shrinks due to heat the rubber detached from the vinyl so now the whole thing is leaking and loose. Also all the video show people closing the cover with one hand, while this is possible after a few times doing that, the cover will start to create a dip in the middle from pressing down all the time, its just aluminum so it bends fairly easy. The product has potential to be great, but getting rid of all the vinyl is a must.
