Listening to one of the catchiest songs ever, but does it work?
-----
All music and imagery is used under fair usage laws. We do not own the songs that we review and we talk all over them anyway, so we hope this encourages people to go out there and listen to the artists and buy official music and merchandise.

One of their very best. So inspiring. Definitely top ten for them.

Yes, good song and awesome melody. But the best part of this song is the lyrics. It gives us courage so powerfully.

Nothing new. This is like 11 years old already. This was part of the basis of everything they done after. You should check out the music box version. It not done by the same producer but it's the same Melody different tone. It's sounds more like a lullaby with that hook still there.

Also you should check out the live performances they are actually better than this music video. No distracting bubbles. The choreo matches most of the lines to a hand movements. Thier hands pump when they sing about life symbolizing a heart beat. Then they sing about tears there's a crying symbol that looks like the kanji character for namida. On Journey they do a March.

This is my favorite Perfume song and the one that got me into the fandom, I am so glad you liked it! The song may be relatively straight forward and simple at first glance, but it's a real ear worm after a while and sticks to your brain.

Yasutaka Nakata is a genius, one of my production heroes actually. A-chan, Nocchi & Kashiyuka are incredible as well. (The synth solo at the end still gets me after years)

I needed this. Perfume has been a tease lately and not in the good way, lol. They post a couple old live vids and take'em down shortly after. It's annoying to say the least. Anyway, I do like this song but I can't say I go out of my way to hear it. If it pops up I'll listen to it. Also I notice that the "Computer City" MV is set up kinda like this one with just a black background and the three girls. Oh, and if you change everything to blue in this you get the "Glitter" MV too. Don't get me wrong I like those songs, in fact they are in my top ten. I just realized that some of their videos are simply made. Okay, now I patiently await the "My Color" live reaction. :D

Firstly, My Color is on the list haha. It is coming, I promise :) , it seems my channel is a tease too ;) . I have noticed Perfume seem to be playing games with their uploads. I would guess they are trying to monitor certain audience statistics or something, but it is weird. Also, I see your point about the simple videos, and I do think that can work, this is just a bit strange because it`s about 40% Perfume and 60% bubbles. I feel like Perfume were doing a simple video and then the Windows 98 screensaver started and no one knew how to stop it lol.

im not a massive perfume fan i either really like their songs or really dislike them, i dont seem to have much a middle ground, this is one i really like :D

I can see that perspective totally. I think if I was to polarize my reactions I would still like this one. If Perfume isn`t really to someone`s taste, I think at least the chorus will be enough to get them humming along ;)

I might be crazy but I don't consider Perfume music as J-pop (there are elements of that for sure) but mainly as dance music...their melodies are really EDM ....and I have no problem with that....I really enjoy the rhythm and beat and their vocals are spot on.....great analysis! What also is impressive is that each of their songs has its own dance number and the ladies are perfect in their execution. Quick suggestion....FEMM and their video "Whiplash" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6O7qZWba9ufqLs Note this video is one straight camera shot no cuts or 2nd camera...and amazing piece of video filming...and the song is great too...

Firstly AAAHHHH I forgot about FEMM! This has been mentioned before but I am sure it`s not on my list for some reason. I will get on that , thanks! As for the J-Pop thing, this is a complicated subject. I know Perfume have openly said they don`t consider themselves J-Pop and seem to think the term isn`t used in Japan really. To address their own statement, the term is very much used in Japan in every single record shop clearly defining J-Pop and "Pop & Rock (western music)" as different things, so I`m not sure about their self identity or how they see it, but the Japanese scene considers them J-Pop. On a technical level and more replying to your statement, I do actually partly agree. I think they have J-Pop tropes very much in the DNA of their production that make most of their songs identifiable as Japanese pop, but the overall package is aiming in a more EDM direction. Some songs like Fusion and Edge/Triangle pretty much couldn`t be identified musically as J-Pop, but as an artist, I feel like they are either EDM through a JPop filter or JPop through an EDM filter. Depends on the song ;) . Does any of that waffle make sense lol?

@Fernando Novo J-Pop is so broad a category that it's not all that useful. I've heard Perfume decribed as Dance or Electro Pop. At least that narrows it down a bit.

Rick Wagner yes EDM (Electronic Dance Music) is probably the closest musical class (but with lots of different influences) for the music of Perfume. Well in my opinion anyways....

Fantastic song. Not the best ever, but everything fits and works well together. The (relatively) slow rising arpeggios are a nice touch (as opposed to the usual frantic s&h style synth sound). And the use of warm color in the video compensates for the minimalist style. Very nice indeed. Regarding Perfume being divisive... Pffft! Nonsense! I will remind Baka-san, there is no bias on this channel, so I blame everything on the waitresses from now on.

Haha, I guess I should clarify who they are divisive to ;) , Peoples` opinions fascinate me so Perfume comments are often amongst the most interesting as everyone thinks differently lol. Also, those arpeggios were well spotted. I didn`t mention them in this video I think, but I agree that they kind of gave the song it`s sound to a degree. I also suspect they were the inspiration for the bizarre bubble thing in the video

How about reacting to Torches - Aimer? still fresh just released a few days ago. Or to Koiwazurai - Aimer which is pretty similar to the song you've reacted, Kataomoi. Anyways, nice video.

Good point, I will have a little look on the Aimer front. Sometimes copyright can come up with Aimer but I`d like to give it a try after the first two songs I heard were quite engaging! Thanks

A nice catchy Perfume song, but not at the top of my list. I certainly wouldn't skip over the track. Video would have been better with just the black background (or a color changing background) without the cheesy bubble effect.
@BakaBreakdown
@BakaBreakdown 5 жыл бұрын
That`s true actually, the bubble thing just looks like someone fell on the FX button and imported something from another video. Either go basic or go complicated, don`t go messy! Plain video would have been better then bubbles in my eyes .

Thanks for reacting, perfume's Homage to Cher/Madonna? Nice idea ruined by heavy handed mixing the rhythm overpowers the song , it's almost like backing singers to a rhythm rather than the rhythm working to enhance the singing. Just feels out of balance, shame.
