The woman in black tights is the star of the show, l mean she was outstanding, and so were the ngungu beaters. It would be more interesting if the dancers were shown in full as there is so much importance and emphasis of the whole body coordination and movement in this dance. so the video shoot kind of let them down. Men are normally excellent dancers but not in this case.

As a karanga im starting to think that we have been lied to ,,,the is much similarities between karanga, Ndau,venda ,manyika ,Tonga and nambya .just wondering why these people were not part of Shona it is really shocking and dissappoint Come to Masvingo we also do the same but our dances are called mbakumba,Jerusarema etc

Who said they are not Shona ?...they originated from Bikita ...they are Shona not Ndebele . They ruled side by side with their brother ( karanga) Rozvi people they are only colonized by Ndebele . They are the sons of chirisamhuru/chilisamhulu , menoesango /menoesango etc these are true Shona from Masvingo .

I grew up in Chivi Masvingo, my father used to have a lot of these ceremonies! The dance, drum beat, whistling, blowing of a horn is just the same. The ceremonies used to start sunset until the next morning. I am from a Karanga tribe. May his soul rest in peace! Thank you for keeping reminding us of where we come from. they are hybreeds of ndebeles who are mostly zulus who migrated from zululand with mzililkazi enroute some sotho were taken from the free state and lesotho and some tswana i the transvaal and botswana and mostly shona people the ethnic groups of botswana why are people acting confused you can very well see whn people are made up o different african ethnicities.They are similar to shanggan and ngoni people.But khalanga is a subgroup under the ndebele.People must stop acting.within this tribes made from different non related ethnicities they blend creat a new language but you can still trace their true identity via they surname.

Kalanga is the original shona...Mambo dynasty. There are 3 premier shona dynasties. Mambo dynasty for the Torwa/Butua Kingdom, Changamire Dynasty for the Rozvi Kingdom and Mwenemutapa dynasty for the Munhumutapa/Monomutapa Kingdom

As a so-called Ndebele myself, I respect the Kalanga people and their culture and do recognize that they have a point about their language being suppressed. However, they must not kid themselves that if the Ndebele people were to suddenly disappear from Matabeleland then the Shona people will treat them better!! Just ask the people of Binga. The Shonas are oppressing them just as much. People in Binga are proud Tonga people who know who they are and proudly speak their language but the Shonas still impose themselves.

There is no tribe called Shona. To say shonas are suppressing the Tonga, you are saying the Manyika,Maungwe,Karanga/Kalanga and Zezurus are suppressing Tonga.

Shona is an umbrella word for related languages which are Ndau, Zezuru, etc. I for one was even laughed at school for speaking ndau/maungwe for the way we speak.

Katanga is a dialect of Shona and Kalanga is another language however quite similar even in cultural practices

Please learn your history. The Kalangas were part of the Karanga/Rozvi kingdom who built great zimbabwe.They are related to the venda, bapedi, nambya. They moved westward and built Khame ruins etc
