It's dessert week! Are you ready for this jelly? I don't know if you are... Also, lemons! themcelroy.family/

The worst thing about the steamed pudding is that speaking to folks whose grannies made that pudding growing up confirm that that pudding rightly needs, like, four hours. Whether it was intentional or not, the challenge was definitely set up for them to fail!

Travis is exactly right- we use dessert and pudding interchangeably, but pudding is technically a bread-ish dessert.

something i really appreciate about peter is that even when things aren't going well for him, there's stress but no panic. i feel like with so many of the bakers this season (particularly laura) things started to spiral out of control the moment something started to go awry, but peter's able to remain level-headed and rely on his knowledge of technique and skill even when the pressure's on. i have a feeling this was just a bad week for him and he'll be back up to par by next week. he's so methodical and consistent that I'll honestly be surprised if he DOESN'T win this season

Hermine is my favorite baker in the season so far and i’m so happy for her this week :’) i’m pretty set on her and Peter making it to the finals, but it’s a toss up between Laura and Dave i think

gotta be real, I was pissed that hermine didnt get a handshake this week
@CaroGo3 жыл бұрын
Same, but it may be a covid thing. Like, they are in isolation together, but it may be a cultural awareness thing. Did anyone get a handshake this season.
@trans-ruffboi46053 жыл бұрын
@@CaroGo I thought lottie did a few weeks back, but I might be wrong. And I dunno, if they're still hugging and shaking hands at the end of the episode when people are going home it feels like it's not a covid thing.

@@trans-ruffboi4605 Yeah, you know what, I managed to fully forget that they hug

@@CaroGo I don’t think Paul gives them out this season like he did the last, but I do remember a couple

In Britain we call any sweet treat after a meal, a dessert or a pudding (whether its cake, crumble, a choc ice from the freezer etc.) could be a regional thing as to which one people use but we aaalso can use each one to mean a slightly more specific food e.g. Pudding can often refer to a gooey spongey treat (e.g. sticky toffee pudding, bread and butter pudding, christmas pudding) and dessert can often mean more of a mousse or custard-like food e.g. when you buy mousse or custard pots from shops they can often be called a dessert but yeah either can just mean any sweet food, theres also "afters" and other terms that can be used :)

my feelings were VALIDATED when trav said that everyone's been so inconsistent! I feel like it was never such a toss up who's going to win the final. it's definitely between Hermine and Peter, just because they're the most cool headed (looking @ u laura) and the most technical and methodical.

The reason why Prue is good at compartmentalised judging is because she judged professional chefs like 4x a week over an eight week competition for over a decade on Great British Menu. She's had loooooads of practice even compared to the number of things Paul has judged on his 101 episodes of Bake-Off. :D

I don't even watch GBBO, I caught a couple shows at my maman's house. I just like listening to y'all talk about it.

You guys nailed the pudding definition, the only thing I'd add is pudding is said more up North and dessert is said more down South! I'd never say pudding, I'd say what's for dessert and it may be a sticky toffee pudding :D

thank you Teresa for making the point that they should have been able to figure out that the puddings with A WHOLE LEMON IN THEM would need a long time to steam. I'm terrible in the kitchen and that seemed pretty obvious to me lol

Laura was a complete mess. The fact that y’all weren’t more upset that Lotti went home over Laura is a travesty.

Brit here! Dessert and pudding are definitely used interchangeably here in England (can’t speak for wales ireland or scotland as i’m english!) in the same way you call everything after dinner “dessert”. It’s the third/final course. Usually a pudding dish (Christmas pudding, bread pudding, sticky toffee pudding) usually has a sponge/cakey-element with a sauce or element of soaking to it (christmas pud is soaked with brandy, custard is often a feature in puddings). Desserts are usually considered posh but it really is just anything sweet. I think the posh connotation comes from that “Dessert” is used in restaurant menus? Hope that helps! Essentially, you won’t get chastised if you use them interchangeably 😂

I think Peter got over confident and started practising less as the show went on and Laura should have gone weeks ago.

I agree. I’m honestly disappointed that Sura, Lottie, and both Marks are gone and Laura is still here. She was consistently in consideration for going home for like 5 or 6 straight episodes. I think she should have gone the week that Sura did. Not that I dislike her or anything
