Great video! Love the idea for this series! I find the toilets at Baker Street some of the most useful on the London Underground but I've never thought to try to get off, use them and get on the same train thought. I've done a similar thing with getting coffee at Northampton. Some Sunday morning trains stop for 15 minutes so I've got off, got my coffee and got back on the same train!

Geoff, my commute in to Baker Street over the past few years has made me thoroughly grumpy about the place: all I can think about is the maddening, inefficient crush the Victorian stairs from the Wembley-bound platform causes at rush hour. But you've managed to make the place seem charming again. For this, I thank you! Quality video, and nice idea for a series.

3:52 I once did a similar thing on the NYC Subway at 42nd St - Port Authority. I managed to get off the train, buy a bottle of water from a newsagent shop on the platform, and get back on the same train. The train wasn't even waiting for a connection. I just knew where the shop was on the platform and positioned myself accordingly on the train, and had exact change ready for the price of the water.

As a regular user of this station: If you are heading towards the city from Baker Street always get on the Metropolitan Line at platform 3 rather than platform 5&6 which Geoff shows here, and are for Circle and Hammersmith and City lines. They all use the same tracks as far as Liverpool Street but the Metropolitan Line trains are always way, way quieter.

I love Baker Street station. Only been to it on the Bakerloo line though. Mum and I went to see Coldplay in 2022 and stayed in Marylebone and stayed a couple days in London so we could do stuff and we went out for pizza at Pizza Express on the last night and got lost and stumbled upon I think it was a Co-op and mum wanted a snack so we went in and accidentally found an entrance to the tube… Turns out we’d somehow wondered far enough that we could get the tube back one stop to Marylebone to our hotel 🤣 It was just so randomly out the way in a Co-op shop that it just took me by surprise. Like it wasn’t obvious that there would be a tube station when we stumbled across Co-op until we got inside the Co-op but there was, so we investigated to see if we could get back and we did 😂

Interesting how the first Metro influenced others: the Parisians looks as though they saw Baker Street and (now) Great Portland Street and said "Ah, let's use this vault feature in our stations!", and then Montreal decided to follow Paris, so these three cities have stations with the same basic design language. What a great start to this series!

There was a news & cartoon film theatre that could be accessed from within the station. Friends & I were studying at Harrow Tech in 1960/61. We had free travel passes between Northwick Park & Pinner, but would catch a train to Baker Street & for one shilling, we would while away an hour or two between lectures. Life was simpler then.
