After making the journey from Armenia to the Republic of Artsakh, I jumped right into learning as much as I could about the local cuisine and culture. Come along with me as I bake Artsakh tonrav hats, eat Artsakh food, and go on a monasteries tour!
Lusine: / guin_dalera
Armenia Travel: / armeniatravelofficial
Artsakh Travel: / artsakhtravelofficial
My Artsakh adventure began at with my awesome guide, Lusine, at Dadivank Monastery. It’s one of the biggest monastic complexes in Artsakh and was built between the 9th and 13th centuries.
Inside the main church are beautiful 13th-century frescoes on the walls. They’re absolutely incredible. The frescoes were preserved by being covered in black dust from fires that were lit to heat the church.
Next, we saw the oldest part of the monastery, where Dadi’s grave is located. We also saw intricate and impressive khachkars with carvings of the cross on them.
Then, we headed to a master class and lunch! We’d get to learn to make tonrav hats and have some Artsakh food. We met up with Lilit from Artsakh Travel and arrived at ArtsakhBerry, a center and gastro yard on a farm. There, I tried my best at making the bread, and then it was time to eat!
Then, it was time to eat our tonrav hats and Artsakh food! We started with some amazing, fruity pomegranate wine, juicy barbecued pork with onions, and bread. It was fluffy and similar to pizza dough.
Then, I got some sweet and smoky barbecued eggplant and tender roasted eggplant that fell apart in my mouth, and some nice garlic. I followed that with cheese made right at the gastro yard.
Next was the jingalov bread, which contains 17 types of greens, followed by capers and a fatty piece of pork that was like chicharrones, as well as some super salty cheese.
They also make some strong-smelling vodka there! In their shop, they sell jams, marmalades, garlic, juices, pomegranate wines, and wood carvings made by art school kids from the village. I was blown away!
Then, after a quick pit stop so I could chase some sheep in a field, we passed through the town of Vank on our way to the 13th-century Gandzasar Monastery. I loved the intricately-carved door. There are so many carvings, inscriptions written in the Armenian alphabet, and blooming crosses.
This monastery is known as the encyclopedia of Armenian medieval architecture. The main church is named for John the Baptist. Some of John the Baptist’s relics are under the altar along with relics from Gregory the Illuminator, the first patriarch of all Armenians.
There are also beautiful carpets inside containing Armenian and Artsakh symbols, as well as a wall of inscriptions in the Armenian language. It tells everything about the history, agreements between noble families, the country, and more.
When you turn to the right after exiting the church, you get incredible views over the mountain. Further on is the original door and ancient entrance to this complex, which was the religious center of Artsakh until the 19th century! Beyond it is an ancient, abandoned graveyard.
Five minutes away is a natural rock in the village that looks like a lion! It’s the Lion Cave and is natural except for the paw and teeth. They added whiskers, some black paint on the nose and around the mouth to make it look more lion-like! It was incredible!
I hope you enjoyed baking Artsakh tonrav hats and trying Artsakh food with me! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment. Also, please subscribe and click the notification bell so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!
Special thanks to my friends at Armenia Travel for their kindness, hospitality, and for arranging my trip. I couldn’t have done it without them! Also, if you would like to visit Artsakh, please contact Lusine.

you know that Nagorno-Karabakh is not recognized by one country of the world as a state, even Armenia itself did not recognize the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh .. These are the lands where you shot your video, the original Azerbaijani lands occupied by the Armenians with the huge help of the Russian troops. You don’t have to lie to people This is not cultural! Learn the story before you talk about it! Good luck.

According to tradition, the stone lace patterns of the khachkars of the Dadivank bell tower were taken from the textures of Khachen's princess Arzu Khatun (Khachen - historical province of Artsakh). A new delicate fabric was obtained, this time from stone, unlike ordinary khachkars, not cut.

Karabakh is one of the ancient historical regions of Azerbaijan🇦🇿. The name Karabakh is a combination of the words “gara” (black, big) and “bagh” (garden, land). The word “Karabakh” as a name given by Azerbaijani people to their land first appeared in primary sources of the 7th century. Three UN🇺🇳 Security Council Resolutions (853, 874, and 884) and United Nations🇺🇳 General Assembly resolutions 49/13 and 57/298 refer to Nagorno-Karabakh as a region of Azerbaijan🇦🇿 .Sovereign status of the Artsakh is not recognized by any United Nations🇺🇳 member state (including Armenia) The European Union🇪🇺 declared that "The European Union🇪🇺 confirms its support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan🇦🇿", and recalls that it does not recognise the independence of Nagorno Karabakh. The ancient and true name of that region is QARABAĞ (in English - KARABAKH). This word comes from Azerbaijani, meaning "The Black Garden" (Qara-Black, Bağ-Garden). Artsakh is the fake name which armenian separatists called the region like. However, Arsakh (not ArTsakh) is also word in ancient Azerbaijani, meaning "Brave sakhs" (Sakhs were the Azerbaijani tribe lived in the Nagorno Karabakh region). The Nagorno Karabakh region is the part of the Republic of Azerbaijan 🇦🇿. The region was occupied by the Republic of Armenia 🇦🇲 in 1990s. Armenian separatists together with the agressor authorities of the Republic of Armenia tried to declare a breakaway state in the region called "Republic of Artsakh" which has not been recognized by any of the UN member states. The UN Security Council has already recognized the region as a part of the Republic of Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 by adopting 4 resolutions, and also has required urgently the withdrawal of the military forces of the Republic of Armenia 🇦🇲 from the Nagorno Karabakh region. It's already about 26 years that the Republic of Armenia continues its agreesor policy in the region, and the region is still under the occupation of the Republic of Armenia 🇦🇲 As a peace defender from the Southern Caucasus, I want the whole world to pay attention to the occupation in the Nagorno Karabakh and the violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 Thanks! 😊

Vətən Övladı Artsakh was the name of the 10th province of the kingdom of Armenia so the region was called Artsakh thousands of years before it was ever called Karabakh. And it is called Artsakh today. In 1823, the five districts corresponding roughly to modern day Nagorno-Karabakh Karabakh was 90.8% Armenian. United Nation also agrees with this number. The republic of Azerbaijan was founded in 1918. Was it not? David visited Armenian churches in his Artsakh series that were built 2000 years before the republic of Azerbaijan was founded in 1918. There is a 13th century Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Artsakh (Gandzasar monastery). What was the status of Azerbaijan during the 13th century? I’ll answer it for you. It didn’t exist. So not exactly sure besides Stalin giving Artsakh to Azerbaijan during the break of the Soviet Union with 90% Armenians living in it, which we soon after took back, how was Artsakh ever Azerbaijani land?

Ani Zakaryan frankly speaking, as your PM noted on HardTalk and had got his answer immediately, I'll repeat it: We can not go through thousand of years of your history, we should look at today's reality". I agree with this opinion. And you understand what the funny thing is? You exactly did what your PM had done, he had also reacted to the strongest organization's (UN SC) Resolutions in this way. So your opinion is this that during the 21st century, your statement about David's visit to Nagorno Karabakh should solve this conflict, and is more reliable than UN SC's Resolutions? So as I noted about your PM, I also wanna add something. His interview on HardTalk (as I noted) was the same with your statement. Exactly the same. Even you've made that statement about 6 months before him. So including your PM, is all of your population brainwashed in this way? In schools or public organisations? Do your teachers convince you that David's visit to Nagorno Karabakh will solve the Conflict? Whatever. You note Azerbaijan was declared in 1918. But you're really making a statement? I really laughed so loudly at your statement. Actually I am not gonna teach you the history here, but you had forgotten (actually you know very well, but doesnt suit for you to admit) that Azerbaijan had so many states before 1918, and different Azerbaijani dynasties ruled most parts of the Middle East for centuries. Just remembering Shah Ismail I is enough who was one of the most popular rulers of 16th century. Do you know in Georgia, Dagestan, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Iran and even Afghanistan, there are so many Azerbaijani-descent families? Do you know Nadir Shah Afshar? One of the most popular Azerbaijanis? Do you know Azerbaijani khanates even Iravan and Nakhchivan, and most important Karabakh (what was arsakh???) Khanate? Do you know Ibrahimkhalil Khan who governed Karabakh Khanate? And he was not Azerbaijani? That Khanate was not an Azerbaijani state? (even that State (Kharabakh Khanate) has an agreement with Russian Empire). Do you know Huseynali Khan from Iravan? Are you aware of Masjid which he built? Are you aware of Kalbali Khan from Nakhchivan Khanate and the great architectural buildings from his period? Masjids, Palaces from their periods? Are you not aware? Then where was your Armenia or arsakh??? Do you know how dashnaks vandalised Azerbaijani mosques and other palaces in Iravan? Recently I had heard an interesting statement about that: Iravan is an ancient city without any ancient buildings, because all of them were vandalized! Unfortunately, I regret to note your population has been brainwashed and grew up in aggressive ideas. And this is harmful for you. Take care :)

Yeah we should report this video. Please report it. He should've known that there is not recognized territory named artsakh. It is Qarabağ and it is a part of Azerbaijan. This has been confirmed by all countries in the world. So he deserves to be reported.
