Just tasted this cake at Ikea and it was so delicious.... thanks for your incredibly detailed recipe...I will be making it this weekend...any idea where to buy Daim bars or what would be a good substitution?

Cool! well, ikea sells them afaik but any candy bar would go nicely, daim is like chocolate cover toffee bits so you can use those too :)

Assuming you're American, Hershey's Skor bars should be a really good substitute, as should the Heath bars. Skor don't have the almond in the toffee, and there's some difference to the quality of the chocolate in the three candy bars from what I can tell, but I honestly doubt anyone would notice the difference. You could also use any other brittle toffee you have access to - it doesn't need to be chocolate covered since you're covering the whole cake with chocolate anyway.

I have just made it yesterday but i am a little bit disappointed about the custard filling... it does not thickened like you on your video although put it all night in the frige. So i dececided to add gelatine and it turns ok. Maybe to much whipping cream in the recepie? Anyway, hope it will tast good! Thank you!

Thank you for this very well done video and recipe! My soon-to-be 10 year old son has requested a Daim cake for his birthday so I am going to try to make it, thanks to you. I was wondering if there was a reason why you have used ground hazelnuts rather than ground almonds? I always assumed the Daim cake had almonds. I have some ground almonds in my home currently so would rather use that over buying ground hazelnuts.

Hello, can the custard butter cream go back in the fridge over night before putting it onto the cake or will it harden?

Hi! You can make the custard ahead just make sure to beat it a bit so that it’s spreadable. It shouldn’t get soggy overnight 🙂

The original Daim cake has always been gluten-free-no all-purpose flour. Think Almondy Bakery just uses ground nuts.

@Miop3ing Yes almond exactly. But I think they use coarser almond meal than the superfine flour. They also make another similar cake using hazelnuts but unfortunately haven’t found that anywhere.

Made it the other day, everything was perfect except too much butter for my personal taste, it completely overtook the beautiful taste of custard. Next time i'm gonna reduce it by half and see the result.
