The way he speaks, you can tell that he is grounded & well educated….. You made the right choice Jao. You pursued education and earned a degree. Showbiz is just fleeting and no assurance. Now, youre stable, happy with family, doing what you love the most - painting. You live your life the way you want it, not the way others would. Nothing beats having an education. No matter what life throws at you, youre secure. Youre a lot better than other gwapings.

One of these days, I'll watch this again. There are levels of meaning in Jao Mapa's narrative, like his paintings which has layers of meaning. I take note though of his stammering and groping for words to "dress up" his thoughts and ideas. This is probably because, being a painter, Jao Mapa is more of a visual person than a verbal one. Hindi rin halos inedit ang video so we may have an up-close glimpse of Jao, the essential Jao Mapa. Nakikita ko rin ang younger self ko kay Mapa (I'm 68) na reserved mostly, used to the quietness of working alone (painting is a solitary pursuit mostly). Thank you, indeed, for thi& interview.

Grabe sir Julius napasaya ninyo ako simpleng Jao mapa yun kausap ninyo chaka kaunaunahang nag quit sa showbiz kase gustong mag tapos ng pag aaral at makakuha ng degree sarap sa pandinig di naging adik walang nega puro positive lahat tapos yun naging finish product niya almost perfect parang nag nagbabasa lang ako ng books pero pinanonood ko lang kayo ang ganda ng ending kase sa sobrang kumpleto ng sharing niya nanduon si God. I remember seeing him sat on the floor in an empty hallway at UST College of Archi and Fine Arts building. I was studying Interior Design. It's funny coz we looked at each other before I realized he was Jao. During my time, we did not care about celebrities studying at the university. We knew they were famous on TV, but they were like everyone else -- we were all students. So I doubt if he was ever clamored by fans. He's a few years older than me, so I was surprised to see him still there. I guess coz he was in showbiz, so it took him a while to finish school. I used to envy Painting students, and I wished I took up Painting also. I totally veered off fine arts for years, but I'm now back into painting and illustrating books. Jao's story resonates with my life.

I can relate on you coz when I was at SPCM (St Paul's) there were celebrities as well but as what you said , we were all just students, we were all on the same level . Actually I'm a frustrated fine arts student ( interior design is what I want ) but wasn't able to pursue it coz my parents at that time thinks there is no money on that lol. So I took a different course. I was thinking of going to Holy Spirit ( coz of the uniform during the 70's hahaha) to take fine arts . Oh well , I used my degree working in offices but passion is passion so now I'm a party planner enjoying it , still in the art side . I also did some interior decorating to some friends, n I actually did painting , literally painting their house ( interior only )n then after that rearrange their furnitures, buy new curtains n what not to match. So I'm kinda doing the art side once in a while.

sa totoo lang napaka simple ng pagkagwapo nya khit noon pero it turned out now na sya ang pinaka gwaping sa kagroup nya ngayon, nagtabaan na tumanda ng husto itsura ni Mark Anthony halos dkona nakilala kundi ko inulit ulit panoorin ung vid. si Eric ok nman din baka kailangan lang ng exercise para ma shape up ulit si Jomari last na nkita ko antaba din yata... kaya si Jao although dko sya fav noon, now ko lang nalamang sya pinaka intilehente at pinaka maayos na aura ngayon.... I could say, Mr. Julius Babao has an eye for a certain piece.Even shed his thoughts about this painting, that Jao didn't even noticed, at first.Anyway,there's more to tell beyond those eye gestures. I can relate Jao's passion for painting because I did some sketching during my elementary and high school. I also entered in a painting contest in college where I won both in charcoal drawing and painting landscapes. This is a very interesting story!

I'm a fan of hap mapa way back 1994 i saw him personally in one of his show with the gwapings in abs cbn it's a noontime show if I remember.....all the fans running towards him and he saw me only standing infront of him because I was shy then to approach him kc nga na starstruck ako I was frozen ganun ba.....so gwapoooo in person lalo kapag nag smile nahhh hehe ❤❤❤❤....Ang gagawa nya he approach me and then I let him signed my notebook in college ....sayang lumangoy na yon sa baha and wala rin namang mag din pa that time with camera 😅
