I work in mining and our fleet consists of hilux and rangers. Hilux is the best in terms of durability and reliability by far. We have hilux utes in the fleet with over a million km’s. The rangers are ok up till around the 200-250k kms mark after which they start shitting themselves. We trialled the Amaroks as well, they were a joy to drive. So smooth, great power, great interior and very refined, but they were a disaster in the field. We had brand new units go back to the factory for something broken at only around 20k kms. Not durable at all in the field but excellent for cruising around in. Great video anyway guys, big fan from Australia.

So im a farmer I've had many hilux's . My last was a double cab with OME and all the cool extras .. i loved it because it looked amazing and got a great resale when I sold it . But what it lacked surprised me because Toyota have been building hiluxes for a long time and you'd think they'd do R and D . It sucked in dust into the cab badly and still has its engine air intake is still above tbe right front wheel arch which gets dirty very quickly on dirt . Then Covid came along and I bought an amarok for no reason other than i wanted to try one . Well it has AMAZED me . For a company that has only ever made one attempt ever to build a bakkie they a very good job all those many years ago . Firstly the V6 and gearbox is superb . The turbo does kick in a bit higher up than I'd like but when it kicks in , hold on ... The cabin is DUST FREE . Do you hear that Toyota. The air intake is cleverly positioned , to suck clean air from the front and its air filter box has screws not clips to make it completely air and water tight . The interior is huge compared to a hilux and the seats are really comfortable . My wife really disliked the hilux when it came to parking because it turned like a bus . So yes its old and has old tech . But it drives like a car and slays any bakkie on the road . Its embarrassing actually . It also is the only bakkie to have permanent 4×4 and disc brakes all round . Another option is you can choose the three leaf 800kg pack or the 100kg 5 leaf pack . There is also a 1000kg constant load kit for overlanders . No one else has thought of this . Why . Then if you fit the Seikel suspension like I did it competes dynamically off road and on better than anything I've ever driven and my pulse races every time I get in it . Not bad for an old girl . Will i buy another one . YES.

One of the most unbiased reviews of this class I’ve seen in a long time. Living in Australia, it’s hard to find a channel not skewed towards the Ranger. Actually, some of the reviews are more like ads or commercials. Reviews here seem to be more about the quality of the car not the overall value of the car in the segment. Anyhow, great review. Firstly thank you for the amazing content! I enjoy seeing this channel grow! Me being the owner of the following (conclusion to follow) 2018 - 2019 FORD 3.2 AUTO 4X4 Wildtrack. 2019 - 2019 (2 Months) Ford Raptor 2.0 Auto 4x4 2019 - 2021 Toyota Legend 50 Auto 2021 - Current Toyota Raider 2.8 Auto 4x4. The 2018 Ford Wildtrack 3.2 was amazing coming from the Old 2015 D4D 3.0 4x4 Manual. The Ride was amazing on and off road, then 5 cyl 3.2 was a bit heavy when doing highspeed Gravel roading. Front suspension bottoming out easy. The 6 speed was a prefect fit for that 3.2 Auto. 4x4 engaged easier and faster than any of Toyotas. Being able to engage DiffLock without having to be in 4x4 Low (like Toyota) is bonus for the doughnuts.... sold the car after 60,000km infotainment system broke and they needed to strip the whole dash to have it fixed sold for the Raptor... Raptor Auto 4x4... Short story... BEST ON and OFFROAD ride ever... wana Rump a 4x4 bakkie the Raptor can do it over and over.. double glazed windows keeps all the noise outside the cabin really really comfortable like beter than a Range Rover! But fck!! IS it SLOW.... SO slow I had to sell it. Only did 13 000km on it... a 2015 2.0 auto 4x4 Amarok ran circles around it... sold for Legend 50 Auto. Toyota Legend 50 Auto... Ride not comparable to the Fords, loud engine noise, and yes it doesn's have the fancy Ford features. BUT, long lasting, simple (yes like you said oldish) interior but its BASIC! and Basic works. Cup holders under the air vents. Buttons that'll last a life time. The clack clack clack P , R , N , D/S gearbox makes you know exactly in what gear you are. Toyota resell value and service... kept the car in thr fleet and bought new 2.8 Toyota auto 4x4. 2021 Toyota 2.8 Auto 4x4. The Engine makes the Bakkie so Smooth nearly v6 like, not like that STUPID 10speed Auto in the Ford Raptor. Engin noise noticeably reduced from the 2020 Legend 50. Suspension tweeks improved. Just a appreciated upgrade. What will I buy next... well nothing currently in the market is currently that simple (yes simple and basic sounds scary in a R 760 000) as my 2021 Toyota 2.8. The kids can climb over with muddy feet, smooth/comfortable enough for long trips. Holds value well enough for daily business driving. Ford, yes more comfortable, the new 2.0 10 speed auto is according to me 4 gears to much to handle. Toyota thank you. Great bakkie. Go buy the Toyota Raider. Add 30k of Onca replacement bumpers on, 6k of Escape gear seat covers and you've got yourself a cheaper, better looking bakkie than anything (even the Legend Toyota) with some cash to spare.

Great reviews guys. KUDOS👌. I've had a secret crush on the P-Series for almost a year now 😘 I bought a Ford Ranger Thunder(Sea Grey, similar colour to the one being reviewed here) a few weeks ago, I must say it's quite a head-turner 🤌. Drove it from GP to the E.C. over the long weekend for the first time. What an absolutely amazing drive 👌🏿, ride comfort was incredible, radar cruise control and lane departure warning made my drive so easy. I filled up kuGompo (East London) on my way back and got 720 km from my first full tank which finished in Ventersburg. That 10-speed gearbox works wonders coz at 140 kph which was my average speed from E.L. to Ventersburg my rev counter was sitting at 2000 rpm on the climb up from the coast to the inland, I think my overall average fuel consumption for round trip was around 9,6 l/100 km. I bought a city slicker, the car looks great, the only problem is that parking attendants now think I have some gvmnt tender and money to throw at them 😒. I absolutely have no intentions of doing hard off-roading, my car will only see dirt roads 6 times a year at most only when I go home to the E.C. I must say though that the car doesn't like low speeds in the city as it tends to take forever to take off when accelerating gently, however, if you put your foot down hard you won't even feel it move, it delivers that 157 KW immediately. My favourite feature though is the Ford Connect app which allows you to switch the car on remotely as you walk out of the stores, by the time you get to the parking lot the aircon has already been running for a few minutes, this will come in very handy in winter 👌🏿 The only thing I don't understand is how I've found myself in an unintended Ford Ranger vs Hilux rivalry, yerrrr there's always an UNNECESSARY need to WYS a Toyota Hilux for no reason 🤣🤣🤣 Never had these self actualization issues with our good old Landy Disco 4.

This past weekend I drove from KZN with the car fully loaded in the bin with tree logs from our forestry project. Ford having a small displacement vs the likes of Mazda and Hilux which have less power, is not always a good thing when it comes to durability. Higher displacement engines, with less power means there's a lot less strain on the engines. They will cruise effortlessly beyond 500 000 km untouched, whilst the smaller displacement, high powered engines might need a few major mechanical surgeries to get to that milestone.

I bought the Cannon (P-Series) and find it interesting that for seemingly the same vehicles, there are some bigger differences. For one, our braked towing capacity is listed as 3000 kg while you list it as 2250 kg (same as previous model, the Steed) when the engine and gearbox is the same. Wonder who is wrong. Also, it seems that GWM tyre pressure rating is given at full load. Try to lower the front to 32 and rear to 31 psi, it will make a massive difference how the car drives when not loaded

The ZF gearbox on the P-Series and Amarok really help that engines and have a better reliability. The Toyota might have a short warranty , but it's very cheaper to add the two years unlimited mileage , last was around R8000 for the add-on , and most dealers are really nice and Toyota often does goodwill claims far out of warranty

Its all about reliability for me. Reliability outside of the warranty period. What you dont want is something really big breaking outside the warranty and suddenly its a 100k to replace a turbo and a few pipes ... if gwm proves to be as reliable as hilux/ford then its a no brainer
@BubblesTheCat13 жыл бұрын
I'm a diesel technician, and worked in different shops. That 100 k you're talking about just shows how much customers get ripped off. I see it all the time. I replace turbo's all day. There's nothing to it really, besides them sometimes hard to get to. I feel sorry for the general public being ripped off like this. Don't worry, we mechanics on the floor gets just as badly ripped off by our bosses when it comes to money.

There’s no governing body, code of ethics or standard practice or anything like that for mechanics so they just take advantage of people in need. I am sure there are a few good ones out there..

Most of the stuff on the P series is German or American made and the engine was developed in cooperation with Bosch. GWM means business, buying manufacturing plants up all over the world. They have their own space program, so like with anything else, there is some good stuff coming out of the oldest continuous civilization on earth. Guess what was the worst car I have ever owned? A Jeep. I say it is worth a look, what do you have to loose?

The Amarok with the V6 would be my pick if not for one thing holding me back: no low range or transfer case for offroading and that's actually a big disadvantage when compared with these other 4x4's in terms of control and torque band. In sand it's performs superb but in the bush it actually has a major disadvantage. My pick is the Ranger and I'm very excited for the new one with the V6

@@vanderz1012 many 4x4 are moving away from low range because modern tech can achieve virtually the same result. Reviews suggest the Amarok is very capable in reality. It has hill descent control for hills also? And a locking rear diff. It's a proper off-roader.
@vanderz10122 жыл бұрын
@@ln5747 the thing that an LR transfer case provides is power band and control. For tougher stuff you need to be able to take it very slow and carefully. Amarok gearing is not low enough.
