I like all your videos that I have seen, I am a skincare formulator, I like formulating natural or natural derived products for my own use at the moment. My question is if I am using an oil serum with bakuchiol, where does is come in the morning routine? Is it before my SPF product, don’t worry I am not making this product for now, or is it better layered before my sunscreen, I do understand that my sunscreen product is better to stay on top of my skin to serve its purpose. Thank you in advance🌹.

Hello, I’m pregnant and have been using bakuchiol as an alternative to retinol. Thought it was safe then recently read that it is an androgen receptor inhibitor- which could’ve been bad if I was expecting a boy not sure what effect this might have on a female baby. Do you consider this safe for pregnancy?

1. Both men and women have androgens. 2. It would be a potential issue only if were able to enter the foetal circulation.

Anita Cairns so it doesn’t enter fetal circulation? I guess there’s nothing conclusory on that yet. Anyway I’ve continued to use up the product I have but I won’t be purchasing it in the future just because it’s not nearly as effective as retinol

Sorry this is unrelated but Dr Sam, please could you do a video explaining moisturisers and how to know if we're using too much or too little? I've been reading a lot online (would never take as gospel but still) about doctors advising that using too much can cause clogged pores etc, or even that the vast majority of us shouldn't use moisturiser! Just wondered if you could dispel or confirm that in a video? Is it true that overusing it can cause clogging as a result of the skin barrier becoming weakened and should we re-train skin to get used to a minimal amount? X

Thank you for doing this video. Bakuchiol has been used in Ayurveda for centuries. It’s also called Babchi in Hindi and it’s even prescribed for vitiligo in Indian medicine. My mom had Vitiligo and the dermatologists told her there’s no cure. (She’s a radiologist herself.) But one of the Ayurvedic practitioners asked her to consume babchi and her vitiligo disappeared. I’ve started using Bakuchiol in the morning and it’s made my melasma so much better in two months.

Mark Pritchard Personally I find it beautiful on my skin but I suspect that in the short term it is the Squalane oil that suits me so well. Being a Retinol alternative is its USP for those who can't tolerate Retinol. Anyway this is the write up that sold it to me initially: What does it do: Bakuchiol is a plant derived, natural alternative to vitamin A. Derived from the seeds of the Ayurvedic plant, Psoralea corylifolia, Bakuchiol has been found to enhance collagen production, provide antioxidant protection and help calm inflammation, often the cause of acne and rosacea. It also helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve the appearance of pigmentation and photo-damage and increase the skins elasticity and firmness, while sealing in hydration. All without causing irritation on the skin such as peeling, dryness and sensitivity associated with retinol. Garden of Wisdom’s Bakuchiol Serum is teamed with the skin softening properties of pure Squalane Oil to deliver rejuvenated, plumper, softer and smoother skin The Science: Sytenol® A, Bakuchiol Oil, represents the gold standard and is REACH registered through extensive safety testing and performance. This high purity and quality oil has been the subject of various clinical studies. A study carried out by Syntheon using 0.5% Sytenol® A, Bakuchiol Oil, showed a significant improvement in lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, elasticity, firmness and photo-damage without irritation on the skin such as peeling, dryness and sensitivity associated with retinol. Super Bakuchiol Serum, unlike most other Bakuchiol or Babchi Oils, contains 100% well-defined 1% Bakuchiol Oil without any photosensitisers often found in many other Bakuchiol products.

@@ellay4514 Well I can give you a further update. I started using A313 (Retinol) well over a year ago. So much oil usage with the Bakuchiol, and others, was creating carnage with my clothes, bed sheets and hair that constantly needed washing and so I was tiring of the regime I had embarked on/invested in. I decided to look for an easier regime and eventually decided to see if I could tolerate Retinol. It took me 8 months before I had built up tolerance of Retinol so that I could use it every other night. I started off with buffering and once a week usage, then twice a week for a number of months and so forth. I didn't experience this improvement with Bakuchiol but I most certainly have with Retinol: a significant improvement in pigmentation, elasticity, firmness and photo damage. So much that Retinol, Cerave healing ointment and SensiBiafine are my entire facial regime now. I'm not telling you Bakuchiol is no good; just that I've replaced it with something that benefits my 53 year old skin more.
