I really liked the first Bakugan game on ps2/Wii/and ds. I never understood why developers abandoned the actual game mechanics of the real world thing. It's like turning Yugioh or Magic the gathering into a racing game.

Reminder, this game was meant to be THE big surprise announcement of a Nintendo Treehouse Live presentation earlier this year that otherwise only focused on Paper Mario: The Origami King, and Nintendo specifically hyped it up as an exciting new game from WayForward...

I remember playing Bakugan. I have a PS3 copy of Battle Brawlers and remember it as quite slow and also repetitive. The animations were cool but there was a lot of "white space" when not much happened. Also the motion controls (while not bad on PS3) were not optimal. My 2 cents memories! 😀

I hate to admit this, but not only did this look like it had mediocre graphics from the trailer on the Nintendo Direct, but the battles actually feel more lifeless than the recent Pokémon games-which I didn’t think was possible. The problem is the time in between the attacks does not feel animated or natural. In new Pokémon, at least the characters have camera movement to obscure their boring idle animations. In this, the characters are so large it’s impossible to do so (unless you’re solely focused on the player collecting power-ups). Honestly feels like they should have gone the Spectrobes or Monster Hunter Stories routes and had more dynamic combat. Or at the very least go with traditional turn-based with complete, dynamic animations like Genius Sonority’s Pokémon games. How cool would it be to actually fight alongside such gigantic monsters in this game? That’s the feeling this game should have had. This is disappointing.

WayForward is easily my favourite indie game development studio, and Bakugan was basically my childhood! Although I haven’t seen the new reboot show (which this game is based on), so I honestly don’t know what to think of it... IMO this game looks alright, not bad for WayForward’s first attempt at a fully rendered 3D game (as far as I’m aware), but I’ve got quite a few other games I’ve yet to finish at the moment, and maybe I’ll wait for a sale on this one.

I heard from a different review that once you get far enough into the game team attacks don't insta-kill anymore, in fact the way he put it he made it seem like they weren't really worth doing anymore at that point

After 15 hours of insta kills I was done so if that's the case I guess you at least get to include one other attack after the insta kill attempt. It's just poorly designed. Mark

I'm not surprised that the game isn't good, the only surprise is that you guys actually did a review on it. But this is the Switch after all, not sure if this game will be getting much support later on, which could make the game at least interesting. But I do appreciate the fair review, it does grant some people an alternative to Pokemon Sword/Shield, but honestly I'd rather they bring Yo Kai Watch 4 and the ports of that series here in the west.

To be fair, the older games also used reskinned types for the generic Bakugan but I guess you could excuse it for being on older hardware, especially the DS games. Those had more engaging gameplay though IMO.

Real life Bakugan are similar models in different colors too. Just the staats are different. Each Bakugan should have different attacks so that the look dont matters so much.

3:33 I miss the old bakugan cards you would just play to buff up your bakugan :(. And I kinda wish there was a more interactive type of play style for this games battle system. Maybe if we would be able to actually control the bakugan?

I would not recommend this for anyone, if you wanna buy them an amazing game for good value, I recommend Luigi’s Mansion 3 or Super Mario Odyssey.

It seems like it would be much cooler if you have like 60 universal abilities, but when you equip them to different bakugan, the bakugan modify them like add more damage, hit multiple times, add status effect, always go first, crit. Seems like a simple solution to the uninventive gameplay.

Might be hard for them ito compete with other Monster Collecting besides Pokemon there are also Nexomon Extinction, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Collection. Would've been better if you control the Bakugan instead of the kids collecting power ups for their monsters as they just standing there slapping each others.

So basically even the older Bakugan games had better gameplay, story and even graphics... Wayforward is becoming THQ slowly licensing games but making mediocre to bad ones instead of adding their flavor to it by making 2D games

Heres the thing. I like Pokemon but I hate how you're forced to use final forms of Pokemon evolutionary train or am entirely different Monster with way better attributes, that in my opinion is usually way uncooler to look at. The fact that you can set any type of monster up as the most powerful in this game isn't a negative, thats a Huge bonus. You can have the coolest looking be the best. How is that bad? Thats Amazing.

I know this game has bad reviews but I got it for 20 bucks on Best Buy’s website and honestly it was worth the money. It’s a fun game and I’m addicted to it. Battle system is actually very fun

the thing is those games are made with the grown up "kids" oin mind, if you know what i mean!! i still remember when i played the first devil may cry, i was like 7 years old, the game scared the shit out of me but i would still play it, and the game was no where near made for kids, i understand the point that u said in the review where " simple mechanics", but yeah i guess the creators just saw the others "brainless" games that are being released and the success they are making..

Art style looks...bad. The only good looking thing are the Bakugan. I normally buy anything with character creation but I think I'll pass here
