I have played them all actually and I can tell you several facts that you got a little wrong with. Sky landers didn't just require different elements but many puzzles required characters that were exact elements and multi elements and types. In order to actually beat the game you literally needed all characters other wise the game could not be 100% completed or if you were missing 1 character of many you couldn't beat the base game at all. Hell one level in one sky lander game required 32 different exact combinations in order to beat the level and me and a friend could not beat that level because he was missing 9 of the toys making it impossible to beat the level and the stores were out of that sky lander so we couldn't beat it. Now fun fact with Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinity is you don't actually need the characters to play the games. You can unlock the characters in game but to do that you needed to grind a lot. For starters you actually didn't need the characters at all which is an interesting function but it does make the games extremely challenging. That being said however in order to actually play the game properly you did need the world maps pieces for Disney's Infinity but you needed to plug in 1 Lego Dimensions character from each map to go threw the portals to unlock the maps but you didn't need the characters after that because there are spots where using in game currency you could unlock the characters but it took a lot of the in game currency to unlock some of them. For starters to unlock Darth Vader in a Star Wars map it required nearly 100,000,000 in game currency which meant about 5 solid days of grinding for in game money. Now getting the characters used would mean you wouldn't have a new account but would be using someone else's save and you couldn't deleted their character save file to level the character and upgrade the stats that you wanted same with Lego Dimensions you couldn't level the character the way you waned the character to be which meant if you put a stat point in the wrong space you were screwed. Now with the quality of Disney Infinity I am going to have to call bullshit on the high quality. Anything with a well kind of anything that was sticking out would easily break. Also every single light saber was absolute garbage quality and well 80% would just fall apart on their own. The quality was kind of shit actually. Also the only Stitch I ever found needed me reattaching his arm by using gorilla glue and pushing a sewing needle threw the saft cheap plastic that was almost like Jello and not quality. Now with the Amibo well that originally pissed a lot of people off and the reality is why I never bought the game played it once and holly shit there were 2 different versions of the characters. 1 version was in game character which didn't have specials, and its stats were blatantly dog shit, and controls were garbage and the game was nearly unplayable but then version 2 was put the character on the board and you could actually play the character and with the real action figure hooked up it was like playing a regular fighting game. The Nintendo characters were $30 to $100 a pop and the limited in store supply meant you had to buy the characters online which I actually looked up for a friend at the time to try and get him a character online and I found out the place that was selling then that felt like a scalper which they were selling I think it was Samus well they were asking $380 and the location that it would be shipping from was the Nintendo Distributer Office in Tokyo Japan meaning Nintendo was straight up on purpose not sending out shipments of characters so that they could sell the items themselves for massive mark up. My friend only had what the game came with and he then took the game back to the store and got his money back and he bought some X Box 360 games instead. Nintendo is an absolute scum bag company. We play the game on his system with the Amibos and funny fact is he had the super smash brothers on Wii U but we were playing i on the Wii because fun fact the Wii U was a complete scam. It was just a smaller wii without the ability to back play Game Cube games and it had the Wii software on it. Also really stupid fact about how badly programmed the Wii system was you can use a PS2 controller on it without any issues because the console had no security on it almost at all. I am surprised so few hacks happened or in reality I am surprised Nintendo hid the lack of security of the system so well. I bet many if not all consoles may have had their information leaked threw massive hacks and Nintendo just never reported it and Japan never called Nintendo out on the their vulnerabilities. Well when me and that guy played the starting characters without the physical toys on the board the game played like dog shit and you would struggle to do any damage to bots but when you put the actual toys on the board you could one shot bots. Its night and fucking day on how much having the characters changes the usability of the game. Lego Dimensions was annoying with putting the stuff together because turns out you didn't get the proper instructions on how to put the characters together in the books and you had to put the item on the board and flip threw to make sure you did thing correctly and you had to keep pressing back and forth because the pages didn't have you controlling them they auto played what to do which was fucking annoying as hell. Also the instructions on putting the starting board itself together Lego literally messed up on the instructions 7 times meaning there were 7 mistakes in the instructions for the board you were putting together. All but super smash was fun but over priced and the fun got old and turned to really stupid pretty quickly and really really annoying. Also unlocking the characters without the piece was doable but after you spent the in game money to unlock them you then had to pay another fee to actually use them and you had a time limit on how long you could use them which generally meant you had to keep paying that fee constantly and it not only got old real fast but that getting old turned to me wanted to to not play the games ever again which in turn I didn't and the games died off. I stopped playing them all because they were no longer fun.

I LOVED Skylanders and have all six of the main games in the series and still own several Skylanders for each game. With that said, if the series had gone one more year I would have had to stop since my wallet couldn't handle it anymore. Activision got SUPER greedy starting with the fourth game (Trap Team). The first three games were reasonably priced. Starting with the fourth game, they started getting absurdly greedy with all the multiple trap accessories and the such. It got far worse with the fifth game (Super Chargers) with those trophies. I didn't mind the vehicles (they were pricey, but most were cool) but the multiple trophies were an issue. The sixth and final game (Imaginators) got really greedy with those crystals. At that point I was like "My wallet can't handle this anymore!!" I would have skipped the seventh game if they had released a seventh game in the main series because of the greed from Activision. The series would have been better off without the multiple traps, trophies and crystals (I don't mind just ONE trap, ONE trophy and ONE crystal, but not multiples of them, that's insane and just greedy) and the yearly release schedule was a bit much after a while. They would have benefited from a year off. Then again, They had to do the yearly release thing when Disney stepped in and directly challenged them with Disney Infinity. Taking time off under that scenario wasn't an option. Granted, having yearly Skylanders and yearly Disney Infinity burned out everyone's wallets, resulting in both series hitting the wall since most people couldn't afford them anymore after a certain point. Throw in Nintendo's Amibo and Lego Dimensions (and Lego went pretty hard with throwing their stuff out there like crazy in such a short time span for Lego Dimensions) and they added on to the wallet burn. By the time Starlink showed up, most people's wallets were burned out, resulting in Starlink sitting on the shelf (despite it being a really fun game and the Nintendo Switch version even having Star Fox in it)

I only tried Skylanders for a couple of hours at a friends house back in the day, but I worked at GameStop for the entire lifespan of the series. It was crazy how popular the first two games were. Especially when compared to everything that came after. I even had adults looking for specific Skylander figures for themselves, not just for their kids. I'd say the third title halved the series' popularity at the GameStop I was working at, and the following titles had far more shelf space than demand. I can see why they were phased out, but also it seems like a series that went too hard too fast and burnt all the good will that it got with the first title. I hope something like Skylanders comes along and blows people away again. It was a really fun time to work at GameStop.

as someone who grew up with these games, I know exactly why it died; -the general audience grew older and didn't care much for the series after a few years (like me) -too many figurines after a while causing the older fans to go "i have enough characters, I dont need anymore" -the games themselves got worse after each release (the vicarious visions games were boring. They made the levels longer with less variety) -the art direction took a complete nosedive in originality (imaginations could easily be mixed up with league of legends or something) -confusion as to which characters worked on which games would cause confusion towards potential customers -the series mostly sold on nintendo systems as thats where the main target audience was, and when the wiiu failed and the wii versions were terrible ports of those games, it put a big hole in sales. Also which superchargers released a year after mario kart 8 and was basically seen as competition towards it... -superchargers tried to mix vehicle sections with the main gameplay of the older games and both fell short of expectations on both, almost no enemies or anything to do on the main path and the vehicle sections felt hollow and purposeless (sea vehicles had the worst hand) -A yearly release like this works for adult related games like Call of Duty because the audience already has a much wider age range in comparison (16 - 45-ish) while these games general age rating would be (8-12). a MUCH smaller gap would cause older players to be less interested sooner and when its strictly the older players from the start carrying the sales, the idea of a yearly release is basically doomed from the start TLDR: the games got worse over time, the audience got older, and the wiiu being a failure didnt help things much

Skylanders was the best game series I played as a kid! It was my childhood throughout my life! I did also play Disney Infinity as well, but it wasn’t my interest. Frankly I love all six Skylanders games because of their unique gimmicks! Sure, now that Toys for Bob has gone indie, and so much time has passed, I still enjoy Skylanders to this day! Plus, I have an idea on bringing it back!
@michaelhenarАй бұрын
Dont leave us hanging, tell us the idea
@crislunaverellen6563Ай бұрын
@@michaelhenar okay, I will. Just let you know, it’s gonna be long, but here I go. My spinoff will start like this I call it: *Skylanders Eclipse* It’s a spinoff game that *solely* focuses on the dark and light elements. Why? Let’s rewind a little bit, ever since the two new elements were introduced in Trap Team, then to Superchargers and Imaginators, they overall have the *LEAST* amount of Skylanders! So, not only will my spinoff revive the franchise, but it will also give the dark and light elements more love and the recognition they need! The roster will be 32 (similar to the SSA roster, but also includes the “gimmick”landers) 16 each for the elements and will consist of: Eight core Skylanders One Giant Two Swap Force (new swap abilities will be Gravitate and Rhythm) One Trap Master One Supercharger Two Minis One Sensei (Light Bazooker and Dark Quickshot) The main villainess is: *Empress Eclipta!* she was once a standard drow witch, who once served under Kaos! However, as Kaos failed to take over Skylands (as always), Eclipta would leave off to create her own evil plan. That was when she stumbled upon a spell book that contains “eclipse magic”. First she started mastering solar magic, then lunar magic. After all her training, she started her plan: which is amalgamating the sun and moon together, in creating a total annular eclipse so powerful, it’ll *eradicate* all Skylands! So, the plot is trying to stop Empress Eclipta from using the sun and moon for her evil intentions! Anyway, I am also bringing back the PVP Battle mode, heroic challenges, swap zones (gravitate and rhythm) raceway tracks for Sea and Sky (excluding Land, because it only has Fire, Tech, Earth and Undead), basically *everything* from the last six Skylanders installments, but put in a dark and light standalone game! Lastly, Knight Light, Knight Mare, Spotlight, Blackout, Astroblast, Nightfall, Starcast, Aurora, Hood Sickle, and Blaster Tron will all be playable in the game as well! So, what do you think? Please be honest
@michaelhenarАй бұрын
@crislunaverellen6563 sounds amazing, but i would still make all the old skylanders of any element playable, just with debuffs maybe
@dominicormiston2755Ай бұрын
@@crislunaverellen6563My idea for a new game title would be "Skylanders, Path To Forever" where most of the original and/or famous lightcore skylanders from spyros adventure to trap team are now majestic adults back to protect skylands from an old forgotten boss; The hydra, but now with every head for each element. Each hydra head starts out leaving the main body (splitting) and creating their own along with an army in order to individually gather the most concentrated source of each element. When achieved they will fuse back into hydra form and become unstoppable. The skylanders have to prevent them from doing this by protecting these great sources of power from onslaughts of their elemental abominations. Every concentrated source of each element is locked away in a garrison that is currently under seige by the elemental army which is a counter offensive to the defensive element (fire defenders vs water attackers). The heros will have to clear hordes of monsters that are passing through gates and breaching walls before confronting the dragon with varying degrees of success and failure. The name of the title is meant to infer that unlike our world, Skylands is meant to stay unchanged as the indefinite paradise, but the hydra wants their universe's resources to become just as limited as ours for its own personal gain because it has insatiable hunger for the essence of every element.

If I may, Skylanders sums up what can go wrong with the American business ideologies. Rather than biding their time and generating slow but sustainatable growth, they explode at every new opportunity until they run out of steam, making big investments with the hopes of making big investments that, while exciting in the short-term, don't provide staying power when even one investment fails.
@bluegem8582Ай бұрын
It also doesn’t help that after seeing the money they were making, other companies jumped in to take a bite of pie, just like with how so many games are now live service, and absolutely oversaturated, *maybe* they could’ve milked series a little bit more without, but the need for more and continuous profits meant was doomed regardless sadly

From where I saw, it died at Skylanders: Superchargers, because bolting on a racing game to the main game was just too far to go, and it didn't help that the racer that came with the game was woefully underpowered and (of course) to get a decent one you'd have to buy it separately. By the time Imaginators came out the year after that, he'd already burned out on Superchargers. Each new game had new gimmicks and stuff to buy, but the gimmicks got worse and worse, until the kids just checked out.

Nevertheless, future projects within the Skylanders universe were limited to the recent mobile game titled Ring of Heroes until its closure in 2022. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick stated that Microsoft had interest in reviving some of the old studios' hit franchises, including Guitar Hero and Skylanders.

Toys to life crap shouldve stuck around, then NFTs maybe wouldnt be so prevalent. NFT's are essentially toys to life but done worse. As I recall, NFT's were SUPPOSED to be assets you could buy that you could use in other games. That idea failed miserably. Toys to life games like skylanders or nintendo games that used Amiibo, were exactly that, NFT games before we called them NFT's. And they were NFTs done right. A notable example is Webkins, a toys to life mmo game for kids.

I remember watching Skylander ads all the time on DisneyXD. I always begged and begged my parents to buy it for me but bc of circumstances(very little money) I wasn’t ever able to get the game. I am twenty now, I hold hope that the game will come back and revive that passion I once had to obtain the game lol

Me and my dad would collect them all, I wouldn’t even use them all in game we just thought they were so cool and it made me so happy as a kid. He’s no longer with me but I still have my collection to remind me of him and all the time I’ve spent in co-op.

As a child, I stopped playing when they removed the option to split screen PvP. I’d spent my entire 12th birthday party sleepover playing sky landers giants with my friends all night long, but I never played the trap team with any friends because you couldn’t battle each other and test the sky landers against each other.

As a kid I played the standard game (a lot) and bought a new figure as soon as I had saved up enough money to do so (my brother bought a similar amount). I played Giants but my brother was the only one of us to actually buy new figures (he never completed Giants). I played halfway through the third game (I forget the English name as in the Netherlands it was called Swap Force). My brother never touched it and neither of us bothered to buy any toys. After that neither of us really cared much about other sequels but were mildly curious when a few weeks ago we saw the art for the fiery samurai lady on a piece of decoration in a toy store we visited to mostly just have a laugh (we were both surprised Skylanders still existed).

I'm so glad they stuck with spyro's original design when recreating the 3 spyro games for the reignited trilogy.

my younger brother played the original game about a year after it came out and i still remember how much fun we had. it's a shame it was kind of lackluster in retrospect

Favorite game as a kid, and loved the genre and was super stoked for Superchargers, even though I couldn't get it, man, feels so weird looking back now.

Wasn't expecting the devs for skylanders to be the same ones that made star control, much less them making a sequel for 2025. Thanks for letting us know about it.
@ThebigTijnАй бұрын
I believe the skylander franchise began to drop because Skylanders Superchargers title wasn't completely available on the wii and most people still played skylanders on the wii at the time

I only ever played Skylanders during the Roy's to Life era. I looked at all those other games and had little to no interest. Plus collecting Skylanders was expensive so I couldn't really afford to get into any of the competitors lol.

the thing is, if the developers make a remastered game allowing all of the skylanders. the game would blow up, all of us young adults that grew up with skylanders would really appreciate going back to our child hoods.

Even though it's been eight years since 2016 when Imaginators first came out, I still have hope in me for the Skylanders Franchise to return since the series has being absent for eight years.

tbh this whole concept sounds amazing for a live service game, i mean imagine you get real life figurines not just digital goods and can use them in an ever expanding game, if they made an MMO and Activision does have experience with that, this could have been an amazing businuess opportunity, i mean even if they dont do an MMO with it, just multiplayer compatibility with general new content that comes over time would prb have worked better then releasing it as a series, obviously that was different at the time but nowadays this would work really good and the whole toy to life aspect wouldnt be that bad since the game itself gets bigger over time so you never lose out on the old figurines

Shoulda made it so all the collectable toys can be used to show off in a Online Skylanders with unlimited multiverse with all sorts of up-to-date missions and creative islands

When I was like, in fifth grade or something, a kid brought in a huge amount of Skylanders figurines. I stole his Cynder figurine because little me was *obsessed* with how she looked. I don’t think he ever noticed.

At first as a kid, I was a bit scepticle about Skylanders, It was cool yeah, but my mind was like “so many figures to collect 🙄”. And I’m glad I waited. Because later Skylanders Giants dropped and the design and concept of those made me ask it for Christmas. It was a really easy toy to ask for my birthday as well. Cse people could just buy a figure pack from Skylanders in the store as a gift that was affordable. I already prepared my mind, to not go for all Skylanders as that would be hard as a kid and expensive. I still had a blast with it tho. Was one of my top tier Wii games in my past that I played and arguably the best Skylanders game. My brother wanted the new Skylanders (swap force) later, so he got it. And I was not a fan. The levels took waaaay too long. I could say “Imma play a Skylanders level real quick before I have to leave too …”. The previous Skylanders levels where the perfect length in my opinion. They wheren’t too short where you’d breeze through them. But not too long as well. With some levels having even me saying “whew finally over”. (And I’m a patient person.) So yeahI loved Skylanders for giants. And that was it, the rest never got me interested again. (Only trap team for a bit, but never got it.) Disney infinity 3.0 rolled around tho, and it had Star Wars. I as a Star Wars fan went out to collect all infinity Star Wars stuf. And got it all so, that waste end of my toys to life gaming.😂

as a person who played every game, and never beat trap team because I forgot. I genuinely think these games are so nostalgic, but tbh the puzzles were repetitive and annoying. I think all those pushing block puzzles i did with my brother drove me INSANE

I’ve always enjoyed the series as a kid. Even as a child playing the later games, I did notice that the games didn’t have the same magic as the past entries, mostly because they were noticeably shorter. But other than that, I just enjoyed it because it was Skylanders. The games are still fun and excluding some aspects of the later games… stories, it’s still an enjoyable experience to look back on and surely one I’ll miss

There was another Game that used this "Toys to Life" Mechanic from Ubisoft. Something with small Space Fighters were you could swap out the Weapon Pods on the sides and the Pilots I think. Nintendo got it on it's WII U with a Special Star fox Fighter (only Useable on the Console)... Ah yes, Name was Starlink - Battle for Atlas. It also died some Years ago. You still can play it, but without the Toys, you miss something there. Thanks for your Video. It is sad that so many good Products got "Lost in Time" because of the greed of it's Publishers.

I‘m suprised to hear that the spyro game wasn’t doing so well, since I got it myself like last year and expected it to be an old gem I missed out, but I actually didn’t had as much fun as expected, I eventually dropped it after a few play hours and some friends felt the same. But I remember playing with the Skylander figurines with my friends livly! Would be so nice to play this one more time. Maybe one day
