I remember back in med school people would say snarky comments to me for having my hair nicely blow dryed or even wearing mascara...I would get some students saying omg i wish i had time to brush my hair...or i can't even remember when i wore makeup last...these comments are so stupid....yes i woke up 30 mins earlier ....i chose not to review for a test, or even eat breakfast or workout some days....because I wanted to do things i enjoy for myself.why do we have to be judged and penalised...and don't get me started when I wore winged eyeliner!

I’m so sick of the med stereotype, it makes people think that they’re not good enough for med school. It’s important to remember that being a doctor or in med means you can have a life outside of it. You’re allowed to twerk, have fun, friends, eat good eats and have a great time while still being a good student/physician. I’m a Canadian undergrad student applying in Ireland for med school as well as some here in Canada and it’s insane to me how people think everyone fits into a perfect mold, and if you dont , you don’t deserve to be in med, or are looked down on.

EXACTLY, EVERYONE BELIEVE YOU MUST LOOK ALL NERDY AND DEAD TO BE ABLE TO BE CALLED A MEDICAL STUDENT, BUT TO BE HONEST LIFE IS MUCH MORE THAN THAT AND THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE FAIL TO UNDERSTAND!. My husband played world of warcraft through all of med school (and is absolutely a brilliant surgeon today), and I am at the end of my years of med school and honestly most of my time goes to talking with friends, playing games, watching youtube, and hiking. Its not like you HAVE to overwork to get through. But its an expectation a lot of people set themselves to fulfill. Resting snd processing is super important for learning. I have tried the "10-12 hour workday"-thing, and ended up learning less and retaining less information. Waste of time, only misery.

While I do completely agree with this, being a med student myself and not really conforming to the stereotype as well, sometimes, it can really get toxic. While I was on my first and second years, I still had a life and I could breathe. But honestly, now, in my third year of med school, it’s taking everything in me not to quit. It is just so soul sucking! Maybe that’s why we have this stereotype of med students not having a life cuz at times, you’re forced not to have a life, which is really sad 😔

Dude, I am so sorry about all those comments hating on you being a normal college (uni) student and living your life! I also want to go to med school (US) and the constant need to be perfect, "professional", the best, is so toxic at times. The people hating probably aren't embarking to dedicate their life to a grueling and all consuming (at times) profession such as medicine and can easily point fingers at what you "should" be like but can never understand what that really means. Keep living your life because youre gunna be one of the few not burnt out by 25. Ily!

“Medical school is for classy people” that person probably sits on their ass at home eating takis watching greys anatomy. Not knowing anything about what it’s like being in med school. I love seeing your balanced life through med school! I'm in year 4, graduating next month. It's so important to live life fully like you are. Eat well, exercise, have fun and sleep well! These are all important to be a great doctor, self-care is a core part of health - the knowledge will come as we train more! :) I hate how people think certain people can't be in medicine. But the thing is medicine is so diverse and we need this for medicine to be inclusive 😄
