Balance Druid Basic DPS Guide 6.0 WoD

Hey Preacher, thanks for the guide! As a main Moonkin who raids mythic, I would like to improve on some points you made. BoP is not about saving GCD's, especially on maidens, you still need to hardcast quite a lot of dots, as you do not have enough wrath/SF casts to keep 6 dots up all the time. BoP also increases DoT damage by 10%, which is the main deal. In fights where you basically do not use SS, as you want all your charges for starfall, BoP is the pick for most PERSONAL dps. In mythic you still end up with Euphoria as maximum AoE is not needed, you rather push single target. Only mythic BoP fight (with some exceptions depending on what your raid needs) is Maidens. Atm Starfall already is a dps gain with 2+ targets, not 3+. On MMO Forums some renowned Moonkins like Lappee(Paragon) and Cyous did some math on this. With 6.1 that gotta be recalculated though :( Nature's Vigil heals for 40% of your dps. When you pop it with all your cd's you will probably go up to 60k+ dps. that would generate 24k+ hps in that period, which is not as insignificant as you say it is. It is actually quite the opposite :). It is not true, that you cannot interact with the movement of you eclipse bar. Astral Communion can interact with it, which is especially useful when combined with the glyph + BoP and can lead to some dps gains. The opener is also done a bit differently. You want to use Inc at 2-1. Then prepot + ca + dots at 1-0 and then SS. You do not precast as you lose too much uptime on inc + pot because of that. Nagura put up a good guide on her channel (envy moonkin, now with Method again). cheers!

OK everyone there are a couple things to note with this video: 1. Preach is not a Balance Druid main - so yes some of what he says is incorrect but this is a basic guide for someone just starting out. For beginners this is the perfect guide to follow. 2. Those are level 85 target dummys. I too was amazed at the 1 million crits and the 400k burst until I realised this. 3. The opening rotation is a bit different. You pop Incarnation then SS. Then bring out your Celestial Alignment and dots and then do the rotation preach says. This maximises Incarnation and prepot duration. 4. 6.1 is next week and the glyphs ARE CHANGING. You will now need to glyph 'Untamed Stars' in order to have your starfall hit everything so keep that in mind. Other than this great video for beginners. We Boomkin mains do love our little chicken buddys. More people playing them will hopefully allow blizz to see where they need improving and nerfing. The starfall nerf is going to be good and put us in line, but our utility is completely ruined without tranquility. I will be posting my first guide video after 6.1 hits as I have experience with Mythic raiding and have the time to detail this all to you. Hope to see some of you there.

At certain mastery amounts there is a dps increase with using star fall even on two targets. Casting starfall is even close in damage single target when using star surge plus the empowerment combined with the corresponding empowerment spell. Casting star fall during a solar phase is a loss compared to being cast in lunar, but is still a damage increase for 2 targets. Pretty good article on restokin, the author does state that the graphs are based on 6.1 values. Really love your videos.

Hey Preach, just a word about the Eclipse bar - you can actually detach it from the player frame and move anywhere you want. I keep it just below TMW so I can see it as clearly. To do so, (I assume you run ElvUI as far as i can see) go to /ec then Unitframes, select Player Frame, then on the right hand side from the drop down menu select Classbar and tick Detach from frame. Now it will be subject to the anchoring like the rest of the frames and you can move it around.

Quick correction, once you have 2 targets that will take damage from Starfall's full duration, it's beneficial over starsurge. Atleast if you're 640-650+. If you look at all the top logs for Twins, Hans'Gar etc, they prio starfall over starsurge. At first I thought it was just because you have to move quite alot on those fights, but I went into LFR standing completely still on Twins and I had significantly higher dps when using starfall than when using starsurge instead. I suppose it can rely a little on your gear, as alot of haste will pull starfall even further ahead. Also, if you reapply dots just as you're about to leave an eclipse, it's not as easy to fuck up, and with a little gear you can actually get 1 more wrath out of each solar eclipse while still redotting just before leaving. Your wrath will be cast at like 3-4 solar energy and your sunfire will hit at 0-1 solar energy, or atleast still register as solar even when in lunar as latency delays makes it so. Shouldn't be very hard to do the math on it either. In my head it makes more sense to be casting starfire while at lunar peak to get the most out of the lunar buff + the mastery you have, rather than more initial dot damage which doesn't scale as well with your gear.

Just some clarification for you Preacher. Starfall is worth using on 2+ targets not just 3+. However, post 6.1 on Wednesday. on 2 targets, Starfall in Lunar and Starsurge in solar.

After much, much trial and error I can finally present how Preach set up his eclipse tellmewhen for Moonfire switching to Sunfire and vice versa. You select multi-state ability rather than spell cooldown as presented by another user and then proceed to enter Moonfire (the ID for the tooltip Moonfire) semi-colon Sunfire (the ID for the tooltip Sunfire). By default Usable should be checked. That's it!

Preach, I have a comment regarding you not recommending looking at the Eclipse Bar itself. With ElvUI, you can actually detatch that bar from the unit frame and put it wherever on the screen. I personally like to keep it above my Druid's head because, like you said, your attention should always be in the middle of the screen.

You're doing the crossing wrong, Preach. As there is no buff-snapshotting anymore in WoD you should choose whether to cast starfire/wrath on the basis of when you will finish the cast and NOT what eclipse you are currently in. It is a minor gain. Probably around 2 % dps, but the logic is pretty much the same as your argument about movement speed.

i would disagree that you dont need a eclipse addon when you get really good at managing your eclipse bar you can start precasting starfires while in solar so that when it finishes you are in lunar eclipse. ( mostly for euphoria)

First of all, the stat priority is wrong, it's mastery/haste. Secondly, there is no other choice than sould of the forset with the new tier sets. You have a starsurge proc almost on every casts. which means you do 15% more dmg on every cast.

You "saved" your raid with Bear form + Heart of the wild on your boomkin? Really? I'm quite skeptical about that as even proper bear tanks cant "save" their raid most of the time lol. I mean MAYBE if you popped HoTW, Bear form, Barkskin, got 1 or 2 major mitigation CD's from your healers, and the were ready for you to take agro, you might get 10 seconds of tanking out of your boomkin. Just enough time to rez a real tank lol.

Yes. If you absolutely NEED to pop your incarnation + trinket + celestial alignment RIGHT NOW and you're in solar (like if hero was just popped) use it to get to lunar. This way you get as many starfires out of your burst, which does so much more damage than wrath.
