Line and Color Quick Start Guide: www.thedrawing...
In this video I cover the basic drawing concepts you need to create balance within the figure.
A lot of my advice in this video is aimed at creating a realistically proportioned figure. And that when we are aiming for solid drawing like this we want to stick to the way the body naturally moved and functions. This is obviously something you can change if you have a more cartoony style (Think One Piece or Traditional Disney Animation or a similar exaggerated style... in that case you can bend the limbs as much as you want.
But! I do suggest that the more you can learn to create the right pose with hard bones that don't bend much... the easier it will be to really let it rip and create super dynamic poses once you do start to bend and stylise the way limbs look!
Apologies the sound recording was a bit distorted in places for this one. I tried to fix it with some voice over in parts, but overall the quality is not what I would class as professional. I thought I would post it anyway, but please keep this in mind. I will do another version of this sometime in the future.. so any questions you have please let me know and I can use that to build an even better video next time!
Here is the previous video talking about grounding the character and avoiding awkward feet! :
• Stop Drawing Awkward F...
If you want to learn about the techniques I am using based on the Loomis Method you can check out these videos:
Building The Figure - • Learning To Draw The F...
Posing The Figure - • Learning to Pose Your ...
Different Body Types - • Learning to Draw Diffe...
Drawing an Action Pose - • Practice Drawing An Ac...
With most types of stylised types of art - There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.
Once you get good at blocking in proportion and posing with the Loomis Method you can use it to suit your own style.
It's just a tool you can use to help you draw cool stuff!
Happy Drawing!

Apologies for the audio issues here and there in this one. I thought it was worth posting despite the problems. And I also think its worth mentioning that some of the advice here is mostly aimed at trying to get somewhat realistic posture and balance. You can bend and break a lot of rules with rubber limbs etc if your style allows! Happy Drawing!

I think the reason your videos get small amount of views for their worth is because your vids are too long and usually artist that are lazy wouldn't usually watch long videos

HE TIM ,,,,I GOT QUESTION FOR YOU. CAN YOU TELL, IF SOME ARTIST CREATE A PAINTING OF SOME CELEBRITY, AND SELLS IT FOR SOME AMOUNT, ........ CAN THAT CELEBRITY ASK FOR A SHARE IN PAINTING SELL PROFIT????

I’m not sure exactly. My understanding is that the art is owned by the artist. The physical painting would be owned entirely by the artist. But that doesn’t mean the IP of the subject is owned by the artist. If you paint a picture of Mickey Mouse Disney still owns him :)

I have tried some different mannequins and stick figures but I could not figure out how to simplify the hip part in a way that made sense to me until now. Your explanation has also helped me understand how moving one part of the body may affect other parts. Thank you

this was a great refresher for me and I learned some new stuff! no one has explained that curve sense to me like you just did, I feel like I was always guessing what angle people's hips and shoulders should be on when they moved their limbs 😅 awesome video!

It's been a while since I started to try to figure out how to approach the mannequin drawing. This video made me do a good step further in achieving how to apply it in the early sketches. May be it's the way Tim is grounding the figures in perspective so it doesn't fly on the paper but sits in the 3D Space. Thank you!

Hello Tim! Thank you for another amazing and useful video. It feels like that you are teaching a really comprehensive line drawing course - What I have ben finding amazing and exciting to follow. But I thing you could try to star putting it all together in a site. If you depend on youtube's promotion to keep your videos relevant you are f***** but to this day people still talk about Ctrl+Paint and I'm sure it has to do to the fact that people find those videos through the site, not through youtube. To have your playlists well organized on your site would not help the longevity of your videos, as it would also help to drive trafic to your site and get people one step closer to taking the leape and invest on you paid course(s). The same as did Ctrl+Paint, infact. IDK, just putting the thought out there. It might help.
