BalanceMaster on a Rotax912 for a Savannah ..does it work?

This video is about a Balance Master fitted to a ICP Savannah with a Rotax 912ULS to see if it will help dynamic balancing of the propellor
We had the aircraft orientation to the sun different after we changed to the BalanceMaster being fitted. At 5000 RPM we got some intermittant sensor errors and it was the sun was reflecting off the reflective pickup strip tape. But you can see even on the live sensor readings the balance of Inches Per Second were quite a lot better. When the averaging is done you better a lot better result but the sun was upsetting the readings at the higher RPM. The conclusion is that the Balance master certainly makes a significant difference .

Did you do just the prop BM, or did you also attach the engine BM (flywheel side)? Both area available and I've heard the pair makes things even nicer.

only did the BM on the prop side. You can also fit them to the flywheel as well. The Rotax engines despite how expensive they are the engines are NOT balanced so one on the flywheel will help too I would think. If you get yourself a Eprop that makes it all even better..they are beautifully balanced and really light so dont effect the engine a lot. The engines are far far smoother with a Eprop and they also give at least 4 to6 kts in cruise better than any other prop we have tried

grrr vertical videos, but the balancing thing seams to work l well ? did you do anything other than add the balancer to get the numbers down?

Yes I hate them as well but on my Iphone the video only seems to come out that way otherwise you will have your head at 90 deg. Yes did a balance check on the prop then fitted the balancemaster then checked the balance again..those were the results...we didnt do anything else except just bolt it on. The Balancemaster was accurately drilled with a twmplate I made on my CNC machine

What part number did you order for the 912 ULS or is it prop specific? I am wanting to balance an in-flight adjustable IVOPROP.

They can supply the BM already drilled for the rotax drive plate

I was hoping this was for balancing the carburetors. Would it work with an electrically controllable prop ?

I use a CarbMate for carb balancing on my Rotax..works great. The BM should work on a CS prop but depends on how big the BM is as they can not make huge changes in a badly out of balance prop system

Hi mate just seen this video. I am thinking about a BM, they say they need a couple of seconds to balance between power/rpm changes, do you notice the brief out of balance until the BM catches up?

@@jimwolfe2862 Yes I had one on my aircraft but the prop was really well balanced.It did make a little difference that was measurable. If your prop is not as well balanced it does make a good difference. what it does do well is compensate your prop if you get any chips out of it

My prop was reasonably well balanced but there was a little vibration. The best thing now though is when I reduced the throttle and the engine was around 4600 to 4800 there was always this funny vibration..the BM has cured this basically now. I am very happy with it
