Would it not be better, since the balance wheel has meantime screws, to adjust the screw on the lighter side outward to poise the wheel?

Why do you file and not adjust with the screws?
@ChronoglideWatchmaking3 жыл бұрын
The weight screws are always full lock, you need to remove (gently) some weight Hirano.

Do you have or can you make video on a truing a bent balance wheel? Example: on 16sz Elgin movement looking at the balance from the side - while running and you can see the balance "dips". Not flat.. The breaks in arms of balance line up, but the arms are bent 90 degrees from gaps between arms. Staff and balance jewels are good
@ChronoglideWatchmaking3 жыл бұрын
That is a tricky one, i'll keep it in mind!
@jusa98103 жыл бұрын
Or any video for the best way to "attempt" to fix bent arms on a balance wheel. Not a solid balance wheel, but the style with the 2 gaps opposite each other on the wheel. Thank you💪💪💪

Kalle sorry. But my balance wheel is out of round... how do I fix that. Thankyou dear friend..
@ChronoglideWatchmaking3 жыл бұрын
The only logical explanation would be that the balance staff is too small in diameter. No simple task. you have to place the balance ring without the staff in a lathe to find the perfect center and place a new balance staff with slightly bigger (or the right) dimension. May the force be with you John.

Stupid question: why don't watchmakers do static poising with the hairspring installed on the balance wheel? It seems to me you'd want the weight of the entire apparatus sitting in that plane to be balanced, which includes the spring, no?
@ChronoglideWatchmaking Жыл бұрын
It must be fitted on the balance cock because of the weight of the stud, but yes interesting thought, less practical but interesting. Thnx!

@ChronoglideWatchmaking3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler, It is poised when is stays still in four positions, there is no heavy point left.
@juaquimgustavo47123 жыл бұрын
Make the wheel roll, you will see if it has an abnormal weight anywhere. Usually it stops in the same place , always, since there is a weight in a specific place..and gravity do the remain.

Thank yo for that! i got 1 good bit of advice- keep the roller jewel 90º from the balance arms. Hmmm I got a new balance (complete) and the roller jewel did not line up. I moved the roller table to line it up, and did a perfect job, but now it is under the balance arm. Should I have turned the hairspring instead? (I am not quite up to trying a balance staff yet- that is coming soon on a Bulova 17AH movement) Thanks for the great channel. Keep up the great work!
@ChronoglideWatchmaking3 жыл бұрын
Thank you John! It is usual to turn the collet (virole, inside of the balancespring) instead of the double roller / plateau. But whatever is the safest is the good option ;o)
