In the Six Balanchine Ballerinas documentary Hayden did say that Balancine told her to dance Stars and Stripes like a grand pas de deux.

Yes, she was the most dramatic ballerina in the company, she just doesn't make draahma. It's a joy to see her again.

Articulate lady, I could listen to her talk about her experiences for hours and hours. Melissa Hayden died in '06, André Prokovsky in '09, Barbara Karinska, like Balanchine himself, in '83. Nancy Reynolds continues to write (wonderfully) on dance and with the Foundation and received the 2013 Bessie Award for Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance
