I DO NOT COMMISSION OFF THIS VIDEO NOR THE DRIVESHAFTS THEMSELVES. This is for entertainment only. I DO NOT take requests for driveshafts.
( 3 aluminum gm shafts, first of which was the big 5” tube, followed by the 34” in length and the 66 1/4 builds. Which I was able to get a full 00.00 on that last 66 1/4 build. Super proud. Love that. )

I’ll be making a more in depth video if anyone is interested. I’ll be going over the math, axis, run out, and a couple other variables that can help get your value down. (Balanced.) I was able to get some recording in today but I’m not sure how the audio worked out, we will see. My apologies if it’s not exactly what you expect. I’ll try my best

I tell my guy to use his best .080 wall steel and spin it as fast as you can when balancing. Has held up to 3000hp+ at the drag strip, pounding it with nitrous and hard shifts, 225mph. Exploded 2 CarbonF shafts to the tune of almost $5k in loss when they would go. One almost took my legs. It almost got thru the ballistic kevlar. Done playing that CarbonF game. I'll take the heavier steel penalty, but keep the shaft where it belongs. Alum is good for fuel economy/free rotational hp. One of the main reasons the big players started using it versus steel,,and it's cheaper,,or was.

Agreed, whenever it comes to higher WHP or just HP in general I always recommend steel, because yes aluminum has a high tensile strength, it’s not gonna be able to withstand the jerks and POWA your engine and trans are giving it, thus steel.

Just subbed. Watch those red locks!!, don't let the spinning gear snag hold and rip to the roots,,F@@K! I watched a guy get wound in at Detroit Diesel, he lost 10" of hair and narrowly escaped. After that, lathes freak me out a bit and I keep it at 1/8th inch, lol. Nice spin, zeroed out. @@darklydemons4497

As I’ll say one last time. STOP COMMENTING ABOUT THE CHUCK!!!!!! I AM PAID TO DO THIS EXACTLY AND HAVE BOTHERED THE ENGINEERS WHO BUILT THIS NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS ASSURED THIS WONT CAUSE DAMAGE. We have some employees that use a steel hammer to lock these so rubber really doesn’t concern me. If it does break, it’s on them for giving me this tool and advising me to use it. STOP IT!!

They did testing and hired brainless people whom they had to pay less. It showed that you need some kind of brain to work with high-rpm spinning equipment. The girl in the movie seems to be smart enough to wear tight clothes, so it would not get in the balancing machine. but she forgot that the forklift operators could be distracted by her big rack. (That is a compliment to The Girl!, don't get me wrong, but male brains are very basic wired )

It’s grease ! When doing steel shafts there’s center bearings (multiple piece shafts) and some require grease so when it spins up it gets flicked in the back panel.

How do you know if your drive shaft could benefit from a balancing.. Performance wise, what would be some benefits? 3500 Chevy work truck... also, sweet girl with a good sense of humor, she could balance my shaft without complaint.
@darklydemons4497
@darklydemons4497 10 ай бұрын
There’s a couple things that could help benefit >> 1. There could be play in the u-joints, (or trans yoke), such has a dropped pin from wear and tear which will definitely put off the balance. (Or broken seals which are also common). 2.what happens when it’s off balance is, it’ll thud and make loud thud/vibration noises. The point of this “balancer” is to mimic what it does on the car, as u can see it shows the rpm’s the trans will spin it at and if it needs weight it’ll go up and down/thud/wobble/and sound awful. The machine tells you where it would need weight to even out the spin, just like a tire. So balancing is definitely needed/required but 1 in like 100 you will spin up and everything will be assembled so perfectly (by you) that it’ll need no weight at all!! Though our standardized tolerances for ford/gm/toyota/etc require us to at least put 1 weight even if it spins out 0. (Stupid I know. They call it the show your work method.) but luckily this doesn’t happen often. Finally, if you end up driving your truck with uneven balance and just ignore the thud or wobble you could end up putting extreme excessive wear on the u joint or any other part (depending if it’s aluminum or steel) and cause the trans to not probably put out the power to the wheels. Also (I’ve only seen once) it twisted the actual driveshaft itself. Hope this helped 👁️🫦👁️ thankies for watching !! I’m glad to always make people laugh, even if I have a polish a shaft here or there;D jkjkjk haha

That one I believe is a 78”,, I do not know which truck it’s to since I don’t have the paperwork in front of me, but most aluminum shafts, and all 5.125” in diameter will be for GM trucks such as a Silverado (not saying this goes to it, just example.) because we can also get custom ones that are smaller for cars. It really depends on what the customer orders, customer being ford/chvy/ etc. and yes! The speed is calculated, it’s measured by transmission rpm’s. If you look on the screen it shows the rpm’s it’s getting spun at, just like in your car or truck.

Instead of beating your t-handle with a hammer, tighten all three holes in your chuck and it'll hold great. I worked at a machine shop for nearly 20 years and found thru others mistakes that hitting your handle to tighten the chuck actually puts unnatural stress on the screw plate causing cracks and eventually junks it.

@@darklydemons4497 It's beating on precision equipment... not a best practice. A person wants their equipment to maintain their tolerances for as long as possible. Smacking it around impacts spindle bearings, the scroll in the chuck, the strain gauges used to detect the balance conditions. Will it cause problems? Maybe. Solution is a larger chuck key. Longer the equipment operates as intended the more money you make. You're clearly not a novice... and this is the internet with the drive by commenters that never have the spine to converse.
