I boarded at a T. Walker barn.....they never worked their horses to teach how to bend their bodies or do anything other than rail work. English of course! The outdoor arena had grass in the center and a well worn trail along the white fence....Rule # 1 Never ride on the grass.. They rode the same in their ibdoir aeena and no one else coild ride when they were workingvtgeir horses. It was an interesting experience.....I love the Walkers natural way of moving! Glad to see this horse getting a good education!!

I look forward to more videos with this horse. I like what you said about Ruger being a walking horse and needing to be ridden as such. All horses are different. They may need similar foundations, but different training in other ways. I don't hear this enough and was encouraged to hear you say this. I have a gaited horse too.

Really like this Walker. Partial to gaited breeds. However, they do have a tendency for thinking forward. He needs a reverse gear.😊

Thanks, Tim, I learn so much from these videos. I have a 30 (!) year old half Arab. He acts about half his age and the vet tells me he needs more of a job. We adopted him for my daughter and he is dead quiet as a leadline horse but not really used to being told what to do by his riders - makes sense since he was a therapy horse and followed the folks who were leading him. I’ve been using these techniques on him to keep his mind busy and it’s fun for me to practice too.

A beautiful horse. Love how you're handling him. Can tell you like him. Will be really nice when done.

Hi Tim. Ruger is going to be OK. But as a TWH breeder and exhibitors I thought you might like to know that a horse "stacks" out for you to get on the proper verbiage for that maneuver is "park out" or just "park". Also in this video when you stopped him after circling the mounting block bc he walked off too soon and you had to stop him from moving when you were about to get off, a lot of horses anticipate the intention of getting off and are trained to park out under saddle to let the rider off. He looks like a Dixie Lineman or Lined With Cash bred horse. Both bloodlines are great. It was great to see you working with a Walking Horse. Really like your videos! Stay safe!

Very nice horse - he really does want to do what you want he just needs to learn new behavior from what he was originally taught.

Very timely video. My 18 year old mare has progressed to moving ( zooming) forward as soon as my foot hits the stirrup . It didn't happen overnight and has been several years in the making, but I take all the blame for where we are now. I have tried several things without success ( mounting into the fence, someone holding her etc) and was kind of clueless as to what to do next. I will be doing just as you showed us here. I am too old for this type of behavior. Thank you!!

God bless your honesty. I also have an 18 year old and I am getting ancient myself, lol. This horse training for me, an amature, has been two steps forward and three steps back. I sure have learned some stuff ...... especially about MY pride and anger issues. This trainer is very patient!

Wow you're amazing I wish my horse was like that my horse struggles with his manners runs through the headcollar but doesn't run through the Bridle he seems to have more respect for The Bridle I'm just having a few teething problems with my boy how to get fixed soon x

Hi! Love these TWH videos. I have some of the same issues. Two questions on what you are doing if you have time to reply. On the walking off to a side from the block, are you doing that just to get bend for later neck reining or to also discourage forward at the block? I feel good about my horse’s reining but forward is a problem. My horse has a faster flat walk and because of my usual riding partner’s horse with a super slow walk I am trying to encourage a slower flat walk. Do you think this circling method you are doing to stop the forward would help to slow my horse down if practiced alot over time? I love the quarter horse/ranch videos but have had only walkers for about 17 years. Excited to watch the rest of Rugers videos. Thank you!

So a half halt is NOT a stop? They keep walking? Wonderful video; so detailed. Stand at block. Stand when you get on. Walk to right, left. Back up. Why is he so reluctant to back up?

Hi. I am wondering..all that very soft snorting he's doing...what is that indicative of? Nervousness? Relaxation? Is all that soft "snuffling" a positive or negative? My Walker mare does that on trail rides sometimes. Thanks for your help!

Is he a little wobbly because of his confirmation or because of his age ? He seems like he is losing his balance every now and then?
@timandersonhorsetraining Жыл бұрын
No he's wobbly because he needs his feet trimmed and he's not putting them down flat.

Does long hooves cause hip and back aches? The reason I ask this is because his left leg seems to slip sideways or back at times when he’s walking.
@timandersonhorsetraining10 ай бұрын
It can but what you are seeing here is the outside of the hoof hitting first which causes a twist as the rest of the hoof contacts the ground. That's what you're seeing here and it's not painful.
