She pushed through me coming out of the stall and wanted to look at everything except me. She is more concerned with what she wants than what I am asking her to do.

I had a horse back in 1974/75 who had no respect for me-I was a little girl- 14-I’m really lucky to be alive. It’s imperative before getting a horse, you have someone involved, like yourself, who will teach you and the horse what is entailed prior to getting an animal who could easily put you in the hospital or kill you. Horses are so romanticized in films and in general. I love them and admire their beauty, so much, but you have to be informed.

I like her. Even though she has some issues , I like her overall attitude and facial expression as you are working with her. She seems to be trying to do what you ask and when confused or unsure she isn't overly worked up or panicky while she figures it out.

Great session. It’s amazing to see how quickly she can be taught, once her attention span had broadened. Thank you for sharing and the best to your wife. 🌻

This is such a great teaching video. You are showing a solid fundamental technique that every horse person should be taught. That mare had no steering and no respect and yet it was claimed that she was broke. My goodness. Someone has not been fair to this lovely animal. She deserves to have at least the fundamentals down to a t if she is going to have any kind of quality of life. Your approach is exactly what I was taught by my coach and he even showed me how to do figures of eight driving like this. So much fun and very engaging for horse and handler. It was doing the figures of eight that I truly understood what was going on and so then I broke through to the next level of my schooling. Thank you Tim. Blessings to you and your wife in these times of trouble. My mom used to say ‘this too shall pass’ and that small phrase got me through all of the tough times I had in my life. ❤ 🙏

I’d learned the concept of the drive line (placing myself ahead or behind the drive line) when lunging, but hadn’t thought about pushing the horse’s shoulder away from the center of the circle. This would have helped a lot when I was working horses! Thank you Tim. I always learn something new from you.

I have a Jewels. My Jewels is 4 this year foaled on my farm. When I started her under saddle at 2 ( no riding everything on the ground.). She would test you at every turn. Today, she’s a wonderful respectful filly under saddle. She is green, with a great stop and turns-but my rule is I don’t trust her completely until… Until could be another month or 5 more years. She will test on the ground if you’re not paying attention… she’s going to be as wonderful as her Mom.

Oh goodness. Mares. You do a really good job here. You never escalated your energy nor did you change focus. You stood fast on your system and she started to improve. This work was necessary. Can i ask how many horses you work a day?

I LOVE YOUR work with the horses. I sure wish you were near us. I have a mare who is so smart and gets bored easy...and is an alpha with other mares/horses...and she has learned from previous owner (breeder) to bolt away when she pleases on the lead line. I cannot stop her believe me. I've tried all different techniques. Nothing works. A 6'2" man before me was not able to stop her. I sure could use help. But, we are in Northern CA.

Nice mare.....a bit determined to ignore you but that will change. She seems gentle in some ways but very green. You will learn more once you rider her. What some people call "broke" can be misleading! All in all, I hope she does not disappoint!!

Protecting yes. It's also my responsibility to teach her to come to me fir help with the flies. Doing it that way does wonders for teaching her brain to be agreeable to my suggestions.
