It's a good thing the little girl who used this playhouse did not get stung. The Bee Man had to come and remove this large bald faced hornets nest.

After you finish, how long before any remaining hornets will leave you alone so you can take off your suit?
@TheBeeMan
@TheBeeMan 4 жыл бұрын
They usually only chase you for 20 feet or so. Usually by the time I get back to the truck they're off of me. Sometimes yellow jackets will chase a little longer if it's hot and humid. If that's the case I walk through some low hanging tree branches and I can usually lose them

@@TheBeeMan Fascinating business you're in. Thank you for the answer. I had no idea.

My buddies neighbor had a nest about that size on his chimney face. The velocity that those hornets would hit when they dive-bombed me was unnerving. Luckily, I was covered head to toe. I wouldn't want to run into those vicious pest unprotected.

I would have sworn I heard some hornets coughing when the dust cloud formed inside the nest.

But that sound of destroying the nest sounds satisfying. Like taking part of a thick pie crust

When you take your suit off, do you have to be mindful of stingers?
@TheBeeMan
@TheBeeMan 4 жыл бұрын
No not really. They can almost always retract the stinger, even honey bees can (their stinger only gets stuck in flesh, but not in other insects or in cloth) The gloves will sometimes have some stingers in them though so I won't grab those by the leather right off

As a PCO since 1978, don't do it this way! 😥 Pesticide Dust takes too long!😯 Dust has good residual though. Use cans of Wasp Spray EARLY AM, IF POSSIBLE! Early AM, they will be in their NEST! 🤔 Usually they let you get close enough to spray them (About 15 feet OR Less)

As a PCO since 2005, so long as you are wearing your PPE a powder is exactly what professionals use and leaving Bifenthrin behind gets all of the ones that are out gathering food

As a PCO of 25yrs...I would tend to agree...Dust ( not knowing what is used here) can take a while. If using dust alone..I would apply it and leave it at least over night prior to removing the nest. The homeowner has waited this long...they can wait another day for all the members to come in contact with dust.

@@paulbadgett826 like I said I also use Bifenthrin. It's their instinct to rebuild so as long as you coat the nest remnants with the Bifenthrin, it gets them all. It's a trick to cut out the need for a return trip. I guarantee my work and rarely have a call back using this method

Question. Why use dust and liquid? Especially if you immediately tear down the nest right after the application of dust?
@TheBeeMan
@TheBeeMan 3 жыл бұрын
The more you can hit with pesticide the better. The queen's instinct is to flee immediately so you want to get some dust in there that'll coat the whole inside and hit her. That reduces the chances of them rebuilding. Also, the more you can take out immediately (by immediately I mean hit directly with pesticide...it isn't instant so death isn't immediate) the lower your chances of needing a call back. When a lot escape, sometimes they'll start to rebuild about a foot away and I have to come back since I guarantee it. By starting this way it cuts down on call backs by a lot

Is that Drione dust or something else?

Drione is excellent but plugs up the duster I use. I tend to prefer tempo

What weather do those hornets usually create a nest in?
@TheBeeMan
@TheBeeMan 4 жыл бұрын
They'll fly in anything above 50°F. They start their nests in April in Ohio and go through October

Bald faced hornets are the most aggressive in the family. They will dive bomb you and sting you for looking at them while 30 feet away from the nest. You want that hive close to where your kids play? If you answer yes, then someone needs to call DCFS on you.

And run the risk of kids getting stung because they accidentally pissed off the hive? Nah those hornets need to be dusted yesterday!
