This is one of the finest videos I have come across to assist me in a d-i-y yourself project. One of the finest parts of The Eagle's instructional videos is he takes you through how and why you do each step in the repair but, also potential issues you could encounter while your doing it an how to get through those issues. Just simply an excellent video instructor. Cub Cadet should post this video on their website.

My lower drive belt broke that was the original belt on a 2010 LTX 1040. The 2 shops in town were backed up in work and would be weeks to get to. This video coached me through the process that enabled me to "get her done". Thank you for a expertise video.

Thanks for the video. I recently changed out the drive belt with a Huskee 5/8 x 90 and needed to loosen the tension slightly to keep the tractor from moving when the pedal is released. Your video was perfect, along with several other hints such as removing the battery box and releasing the spring tension. Great job.

The story behind this I was given a cub cadet ltx 1040 . I got the body and a big box of parts that went to it. Some guy had it and went to prison for a long long time. His buddy got it and he wanted nothing to do with it so I got it. I had an extra briggs motor I stuck in it because the other engine was partly in the box of parts. And there was this spring I had no clue about!!!LOL I saw it in your video!

@baldeagle242 a friend has same rider and top belt came off bought a new one but after looking at the main longer drive belt it needed to be replaced used numbers off the hood for both belts but now when letting off fas the tractor won't stop moving belt size is 5/8 x 90.5 would the 5/8 91 give it enough slack to stop moving. Also the variable pulley is the top shorter belt supposed to be all the way to the inside and the bottom long belt sit on the outside of pulley everything looks good thanks for any info that could help

@robertbryce6735 a half inch longer will make a difference. In this video I show how you can adjust the tension for the slightly longer belt. The way you described the belts on the pulleys is correct.

Yes, if it’s still pulling on its own someone has probably put a shorter belt on it. As long as it hasn’t already been adjusted to its limit the adjustment should help.

I replaced the long drive belt that I purchased from Lowes that's supposed to be OEM.I've tried adjusting the linkage and when the engine is first started the machine doesn't move when I release the pedal in forward & reverse. After mowing with it for a little while the machine wants to continue moving forward & reverse. Seems like when the engine gets hot this happens. ANY information would be greatly appreciated.

It’s a guess but it you’re certain you have the correct belt it sounds like your variable speed pulley maybe sticking and not moving up and down properly. Again, it’s tuff to diagnose stuff like this without actually looking at it. What’s confusing is: Slipping when you start is a sign of a warn belt or a belt that’s too long. Continuing to pull when you let off the peddle is a sign of a belt that’s too short. The only thing that can cause both issues is the pulley.

@ 7:00 --- the SILVER pully has a guard on the rear side it that is thin and has to be bent back to get either belt off. The big black pulley wheel has to be taken off with a 7/8 wrench and a screw driver down in the hole braced up against something so it does not turn. I spent $50 on extra tools just to do this part. I also purchased a 13/16 wrench - but did not need it. A 3/4 inch is too small. Make sure you buy a OEM Cub Cadet belt. The one I got that was Kevlar enforced off of Amazon did NOT work. I left the spring on there and just took the black pulley off - one less tool to buy ... you can push on it with your hand to move it back to release tension ... it's not a deal breaker. BUYING THE CORRECT BELTS is !!!!

As long as it has the same type of shifter on the fender it will be the same. You will need to confirm your belt size though. Some of these mowers have a 1/2” wide belt instead of a 5/8”.

Hey, I was using my 2014 LTX 1046 yesterday and the drive belt let go. I put a new one in this morning and double checked everything. I do the normal starting procedure for the first start and when the key is turned to start, there is an electrical sounding whine and nothing happens. No other sounds or movement. I tried jumping it and now theres a click but still no start. Any ideas?
@JohnDavis-ss4dw

I replaced both belts about a year ago, now the mower doesn’t want to climb up a Hill. I have to let off the gas pedal and then push the pedal again and again to make it climb. It also does this on level ground till the belt warms up. I guess I need to shorten the belt adjustment.?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 10 ай бұрын
More than likely, the belt needs to be shorter or adjusted tighter. I would also check to make sure the springs are all connected in the correct location, and the thickness of the belt is correct. Some mowers use a 5/8" belt, and some use a 1/2".

Quick question. I got a 1040 but want to upgrade it from the manual clutch it has to am electric one. Is it possible to do?
@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 4 ай бұрын
@@roepena Generally, converting from a manual clutch to an electric clutch is technically possible, but it would depend on the make and model of the equipment. The process involves replacing the current clutch system with an electric clutch and ensuring proper wiring and mounting. However, this can be complex and may require custom modifications. When converting from a manual clutch to an electric clutch, the safety switches are an important consideration. Most machines with manual clutches have built-in safety features like seat switches, brake/clutch interlock switches, or PTO (Power Take-Off) switches. These switches prevent the machine from starting or operating if certain conditions aren’t met, such as being in neutral or the operator being seated. If you replace the manual clutch with an electric clutch, you’ll need to ensure that the safety systems are either adapted or retained. For example: Electric clutches often come with their own wiring systems that may bypass the original interlock switches. You need to rewire them to ensure the interlocks still function, so the machine won’t engage the clutch if it’s unsafe. The electric clutch should disengage when the PTO is not in use. Wiring the electric clutch to the existing PTO switch can ensure this safety feature continues to work. Ensure that the new clutch setup interacts correctly with these switches, so the machine doesn’t engage the blades or other moving parts when it’s unsafe. Failing to incorporate these safety switches could lead to accidents or equipment malfunction. The electric clutch must fit properly on the engine’s crankshaft, and the shaft length must be compatible with the electric clutch assembly. Here are a few key points to consider: Shaft Diameter and Length: Electric clutches are designed to fit specific crankshaft sizes. You’ll need to match the diameter of the shaft and ensure that the length is sufficient to accommodate the electric clutch without interfering with other components like pulleys or belts. If the shaft is too short, the clutch may not install securely or function properly. Some electric clutches are designed to fit certain shaft lengths, so you’ll need to verify that the clutch you’re purchasing is compatible with your machine’s engine. If your engine shaft is too long, you might need spacers or washers to make the fit secure and align the belts. Most engine shafts have a keyway to secure the clutch in place and prevent slipping. Ensure that the electric clutch has the correct keyway and that you have the proper bolt to fasten it securely to the shaft. An electric clutch also has a brace to prevent the clutch from spinning that probably isn’t there on the manual machine. The more I think about this…. It’s not a job I would tackle with all things considered. It’s too early to think this hard. 🤣👍 Before proceeding with the conversion, it’s crucial to verify the specifications of both the engine and the electric clutch to ensure they are compatible, including shaft length, diameter, and keyway configuration. If necessary, consult the manufacturer or a technician for guidance.

@baldeagle242
@baldeagle242 10 ай бұрын
That’s a sign of a warn belt or a new belt that’s too thin. It sucks too far down into the variable pulley and becomes loose on the drive pulley. I’d verify the new belt is the correct thickness and make sure there isn’t a stuck or frozen pulley that’s prematurely warn the belt.
