Another thing about servicing intervals: Don't follow what the manufacturer tells you. Do it more often. Remember: It's beneficial to the manufacturer to advertise how little maintenance their products need. It's beneficial to them for things to fail sooner so they can create business for their dealers and sell more parts. Remember the "lifetime trans fluid" BS? That was 100% nonsense. You NEED to service your fluids, ALL of them. Ever seen a domestic car where the owner's manual gives you a fluid interval for brake fluid? Do you see how nasty it gets? You don't need to change your synthetic oil every 3k, but I wouldn't go much over 5k. Certainly not 7500-10k. Sure, there are folks that claim they do oil filter only and analysis (even though they have no idea what they're looking at) and go long intervals...and some brands might even tolerate it for awhile. But go do that with a Ford Ecoboost. Go do it with GM's AFM LS motors. See how that works for you. Or many other brands. Change your fluids, and do it sooner than your owner's manual recommends. Use the "Severe duty" interval for best results long-term.

"Flush" is a misnomer. There is no such thing as an actual "flush". "Flush implies that there's some type of pressurized, scouring that happens to clean something out. No "flush" machine does that. All they do is replace the fluid, using the transmission's own pump. And depending on the machine, MAYBE a little pump that pushes the new fluid into the pan. Under no circumstances is there ever pressure inside the transmission other than from its own pump. So replacing ALL your fluid is never bad. It's much better than replacing maybe 1/3-1/2 of it by dropping the pan. It can be debated about whether the filter should be changed and if that's better. In a high mileage tranny that is in otherwise proper operating condition, I'd want both done. For regular maintenance, I'd choose the flush about every 30k, and maybe a new filter every other time. It varies, but the whole myth about flushing somehow magically blasting loose gunk inside the transmission and leading to failure needs to die. Just what does anyone think transmission fluid is? It's a freaking detergent.

My X300 doesn't have that black kill wire. I bought it around 2013. Any other way to trouble shoot the ECU?
@baldeagle2423 күн бұрын
If it cranks but doesn’t fire try a small shot of fuel or starting fluid strait into the carb. If it doesn’t fire chances are it’s bad. If it does fire then you probably have a good ECU and a fuel issue. You can also pull the plug wires and check for spark. If it has spark while cranking then the ECU is good. If it cranks but has no spark it’s probably bad.

How much time for labor would a shop charge for this replacement?
@baldeagle2424 күн бұрын
Replacing the water pump on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7L Hemi V8 engine typically requires around 3.5 labor hours. Labor costs can vary, but are generally estimated between $149 to $190 per hour. Therefore, the total labor cost for this service is likely to be in the range of $520 and $650. depending on the shop’s hourly rate. Add in supplies, shop fees and taxes and you will have another $100 to $150 on top of this. All of this to replace a water pump that costs less than $60. @zillatattoo5 күн бұрын
I know this is kind of old but I changed fluid in a car I got from a friend (free) 2005 grand prix. I know he put at least 100k on it and who knows who did what before he bought it used at 70k. its was black and burnt. spill and fill and new filter. now it slips between gears. I can baby it and work my way up to 70 but the first few gears catch 50% of the time so if it slips you have to let off and apply pressure and it will barely catch, if im lucky. It was perfectly fine shifting with no codes before the change. now it slips and has trans temp sensor code. because it slips, it gets gets hot. so yeah, changing old fluid CAN F up your transmission. even with the spill and fill its still black. just gonna do a few more spill and fills and see if that can somehow save it.

Just my 2 cents worth here... im no way a expert but i work at a transmission shop owned by one of the best builders in eastern canada and ive followed along with all of the problems he sees in these transmissions... 3 big things are 1) thermal valve- its located on the side of the transmission and acts as a thermostat like in your cars coolant system it dosnt let the transmission get cool fluid until like 180 to 190° and thats a big problem with these as the fluid just gets way too hot and deteriates the fluid with in 110,000 like in the video. 2) the converters are also a big problem too they have a clutch type converter (lock up) converter and it slips all the time until you more or less reach highway speeds and it then will stop slipping and grab the clutch... the slipping causes alot of heat and also alot of metal to work its way though the filter and also into the pump and stator assembly... 3) AFM active fuel management is gms way to meet emissions requirements for the v8 engine and then the motor goes into the AFM and comes out of it it will slip the converter allowing you to not fell a sudden jerk or loss of acceleration in the truck and it does this quite a bit... The main causes of failure on these are high fluid temps and too much heat... there are kits that alow the thermal valve to open sooner alowing it to cool quicker and thus extending the life of the fluid and transmission and there is also ways to delete the AFM TOO... And theres a company HP TUNNER thats doing some cool stuff with the valve bodys and electronics in the valve body to alow the converter not to slip as much extending the life of it... Every 35 to 40k miles people should be changing the fluid and doing these upgrades to try and prevent a 5-6k repair bill at a transmission place
@baldeagle2428 күн бұрын
This is awesome! Thanks for taking the time to write all of this! I’ve invested in the HP tuner, bypassed the thermostat and installed an after market transmission cooler. (I have other videos on this!). I never see temps over 150 now. I’ve also reduced most of the slip with the tuner and disabled AFM. 13,000 miles since I made this video and I’ve dropped the pan a second time after 5000 miles and replaced the filer again. Currently I’m sucking about a gallon out of the dipstick (Yes, this one has a dipstick!) and replacing it with new every time I change the oil. The fluid now looks great and the transmission is perfect.
