Excellent how-to video !!! Lots of images showing details for various steps. My JD x300’s seat has a lot of vinyl damage. I think using the 300 during cold temperatures contributed to the vinyl cracks. Learning which products to use for seat repair is a big plus. Thanks for putting in the time to make a quality video. Do you have a video showing how to remove the black stuff that seems to grow on the JD yellow seats? I have a 2023 JD x730 I bought last June. Have kept it under a tarp when not using it and the black stuff has grown on it. My local JD dealer told me the tarp restricts air getting to the seat and that contributes to the black growth - do you know if it’s mold? Storing the tractor in a shed or barn seems to be the desirable way to go. Do you have any experience storing a JD riding mower beneath a tarp vs. in a shed?

I buy Black Streak remover by the gallon and keep it in a small pump sprayer. Spray it on and literally rinse all but the most stubborn stains off minutes later. amzn.to/3zx9dKu

i removed the back (upright) upholstery from an old high back home office chair in one piece , worked it over the entire seat of my old murray rider on a hot day , trimmed excess , and bolted hinge over cut ends . looks good , few folds . can't find a yellow doner chair though .

Brilliant Baldeagle! My 650 hours x300 has the same problem. I used tape but I'm gonna try what you did. Those repair components probably won't be as easy to source here in the U.K. but I'll definitely give it a go! All JD parts are extortionate in the UK. My 42 inch edge mulch Deck belt is looking like it could go at any time........£200 here......approx $180 usd? Anyway.....best wished from England! Dave👍

i enjoyed the video. i got a little confused during the two different seats and some of the back n forth but i think i understand what you did. There is always playback for me as well! One could run a nice little side hustle doing this for folks around town who need it and would rather not spend the money on a replacement. You could charge $50 a seat, spend a few hours a week, and if you average 5 seats a week, that's an extra $1000 a month. Lots of equipment seats need attention and are pretty pricy. This as a service could be a great seller around the neighborhood or around town.

I don’t have a John Deere, so forgive the question. Wouldn’t it be better to just cover the entire seat with the thick vinyl?

The simple answer is, Yes. However as I demonstrated on the second seat, forming the thicker vinyl around curves and corners can be challenging. If I was going to do that I would do it in overlapping sections.

@@baldeagle242 Does the vinyl stretch, especially if a heat gun is used? I’m trying to get an idea of whether it could somewhat get glued then sort of get shrink-wrapped to the seat. Also, I wonder if a crafty person could make a slip cover out of the vinyl. I don’t know, but I like your ideas. Gives me ideas.

@@jeffreyphipps1507 Standard vinyl will stretch better than marine vinyl. The marine vinyl has a mesh material like fiber on the back that limits how much it’s able to stretch. The standard vinyl does not offer UL protection and will become very brittle in a short time when used on something outdoors. I’m sure a vinyl repair shop could do a much better job than myself but my goal is to creat an inexpensive waterproof repair on as low of a budget as possible.

Exactly. The second seat is off of a 2002 John Deere LT160 that’s spent a lot of its life outside. It’s not pretty but it looks much better than where it started.

Personally, I hate the john Deere seats. John Deere has known for years, their seats are inferior. Yet they do nothing to correct it. I've found aftermarket seats. Sold on places like E-bay & Amazon. That last longer, are more comfortable & cheaper than OEM. They are also yellow.
