I went to a school with different school holidays to the rest of the country. Because of this I was often left at home, alone, all day and these kind of burgers were left for me for lunch (don't know if that might be cause for calling Childline nowadays). As such, I have a nostalgia for the weird meat and sweaty bun. I haven't had one in maybe 10+ years now but whenever I see someone reviewing them on KZbin I get an urge to relive my childhood. Fortunately, I always come to my senses by the time I'm actually in the supermarket.

I enjoyed your annoyance that it actually tasted nice. 😂 I quite like these sorts of things (Rustlers etc.) now and again. I find that if you toast the buns, chuck in some lettuce, tomato, onion and mayonnaise, which I usually have available, you can end up with something really quite tasty. I think that and some chips would go down quite nicely!

Considering the price of some of the McBurgers that you have reviewed, £1.79 for this seems like quite good value. I imagine that quite a few of those cals are from the burger sauce and the cheese, so you could omit those if desired.

Back in the day before the world went bonkers I would buy a 4 pack of German imported Frikadellen for 99p at Asda, get some nice freshly baked burger buns from the bakery section and a packet of possessed cheese slices. Going off subject slightly Gareth, I walked around a largish Tesco yesterday and was looking at stuff in the frozen Isles, I had to “double take”… most of the cardboard packaging on products like burgers, fish fingers etc have all shrunk!! I mean really shrunk! So I immediately thought they’d reduced portion sizes dramatically but I believe it’s to cut back on cardboard? In the past I had a habit of picking up for example a box of “ 4xLarge battered cod fillets” and rattling them just to see how small the fish was inside and yep the all rattled, so in other words manufacturing made packaging much larger to make you think the product was larger when in fact it wasn’t! But it seems now they’ve reduced packaging everything looks really small!!

These burgers all look straight out of the Star Trek replicator. American style plastic cheese is a crime against humanity. Have to confess, I love the burgers at Wetherspoons. They are well trimmed up and good value. Nothing wrong with adding soy protein to minced beef. Mix 50/50 in a Bolognese and you can't tell the difference but is a lot healthier.

Irrespective of the dubious ingredients, this burger at just £1.79 is a good mouthful for not much money. I've been eating junk food (not all the time!) since I was an apprentice in the early 1960s. At home my mum cooked pies, roasts, fish on Fridays, bacon and egg, absolutely loads of food. She had to, she was running an old people's home down in Kent. She probably would have had a fit to see what I was eating at work. I dare not go anywhere near this burger now, but 20, even 10, years ago I would have!

I have had the Southern Fried Chicken Burger in this Range. Instead of Cooking The Chicken Burger in the Microwave i done mine in the Air Fryer on Fry Setting Sprayed with some Air Fry Oil on both sides, then i Air Fried the Chicken Burger for 14 Minutes. The Bun i defrosted in the Microwave then Cooked it in the Toaster. I also done a Portion of Aldi Steak Cut Chips in the Air Fryer for around 12 Minutes. Tasted Delicious. Although next time im going to have the Aldi French Fries with it. I recently read that Energy Bill Price cap is going up again in January. The new cost of cooking in an Air Fryer is on average 18p per 20 Minutes. Basing it on that if you had done yours in the Air Fryer and done the Bun the way i did i would round it up to 20p Per 20 Minutes. Add the cost of using the Microwave and Toaster plus Hot Water and Washing up Liquid and a Piece of Kitchen Roll. Cost would be about £2.59 to £2.79. Still a lot Cheaper than getting it from McDonald's.

No they don't 😂. The snacksters McDonald's rip offs the likes of Aldi have been selling are awful. Even with this product it looks like Aldi have realised that the snacksters ones are terrible and that's why they've done their own. Their beef burgers contain chicken for a start. This one contains soya to make it cheaper. Don't get me wrong stuff like this has its place but it's not a decent alternative to McDonald's.

Good Morning Gareth. I'll certainly have a go at that. Looks ideal for a quick lunchtime snack. I tried the Big Cheesy Maccy D's burger you reviewed last week. Blimey that was huge - a rare throwback to the days before shrinkflation made everything so tiny, like this wee snackette. It did look like a right palava making that up though. Anyway have a good week. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you find this week. On my part I've recently discovered Booths, as Amazon prime are now delivering products from them in our area. They do have some cracking good ready meals which I wonder if you like to review at some point? My particular favourites are the ready made curries and the Chicken Kievs which are just fantastic - none of that minced chicken meat, they are made with solid chicken breasts - and they aren't small either! So maybe worth a go?

We used to buy cheeseburgers in a box here in the US and they were surprisingly good too. They were put out by a company that produced meat products (the name of which escapes me; this was about 20 years ago.) I believe they included a frozen pickle slice, too. Well, anyway, one day my son went to make one, opened the box, pulled out the inner plastic bag and all that was in there was the bun and the piece of cheese. No burger. There was a number you could call for complaints, so my son called them and I could hear the woman exclaim: "There was no burger in the box?!?!" So my son said yeah, no burger! Just the bun and the cheese. There wasn't even a pickle although I don't like pickles!" The woman started laughing and my son went on: "Would you like me to take a picture of it?" (She said, "Sure!" but gathered the codes off the side of the box from him.) Anyway, long story short she apologized for the missing meat and sent us a bunch of coupons for free products. I remember these were cheaper than going for fast food and tasted good; the meat was better than what fast food was offering.

Gaz, you are indeed a martyr, well done. BTW, it isn't 76% beef. It is 76% of the 41% that makes the pattie, the other 24% of the 41% is made up of the cheapest bulking agents, soya protein and the other myriad ingredients. They even have the cheek to claim it as a virtue, with "added soya protein" Just add proper beef, you would get more protein, but no this would take many pennies away from the fat cat investors. The beef incidently will also be the cheapest waste possible. Fun fact: Ultra processed food is an exercise in extracting the biggest profit from the poor person who eats it whilst keeping you carb addicted.
@Coxy-b3411 ай бұрын
