I think, M & S are the best supermarket in the country, followed by Sainsbury`s. But overall for value Sainsbury`s is the greatest. M & S chicken including canned foods is British. Aldi import chicken from south America
@tinplategeektoo

Look at the video at @1:12 and the M&S tin clearly says their chicken is from the EU and Brazil. So not from the UK in any way shape or form.

@@tinplategeektoo Yes you are right. That never used to be the case and it was always British chicken in all M and S products. I guess demand is high now.

What's most annoying is I remember the Aldi one being 99p, maybe even 89p.. Can't believe how prices are rising. It's a nice quick curry though, Lidl's version is identical (probably same supplier). It's a bit gloopy and as you say the chicken is powdery and not very succulent at all, but if you need curry it's quick and easy.

£3 for curry in a can from m&s or £3.59 for the Aldi specially selected chilled proper curry. I'm not a fan of the cheaper tinned curry because the chicken is always over cooked and dry, but at least the price reflects that and theres a purpose to the product. But £3 for a tinned curry. Nah.

The Aldi/Lidl one tastes the same as the Princess tinned curry. I’ve tried both the Mild and Hot one and they taste exactly the same as branded ones. They contain Brazilian chicken (so I’ve read). Honest review. Price v flavour as someone said. For a cheap Chinese curry get the Goldfish brand curry paste. It’s a dehydrated curry but it’s fantastic. One tub goes a long way. Use a few chicken thighs roughly chopped, a white onion chunky chop and fry. Then add chicken stock with frozen peas. Give it a few minutes then add a few tablespoons of the curry paste. It will thicken as it boils. The tub of product does a lot of portions.

Hi Gareth I have had both of these, but I have to give the edge to M&S Chicken Curry. Price wise Aldi is still good but I find the chicken more chewy. M&S chicken is restaurant quality 👍🏻👍🏻😁 M&S use to do a tin of Lamb curry it was Heaven on Earth, for some reason they stopped doing it. It use to be about £3.70 a tin 5+ years ago, but boy was it worth it.

I would expect the M&S to be better especially as it costs well over twice as much as the Aldi BUT Aldi served over chips is surely going to be ok isn't it? Anyway, re: the chicken. The dark meat is way tastier and juicier than the breast meat. A very fair review as ever but if I was going to spend £3 on it I could make it, twice as much as in a tin plus rice and naan, for the same money or less, especially if you buy a whole chicken and joint it as I do, cutting costs further. 👍

A good video. Thank you. I have never, ever bought a tinned curry. Even before my intolerance to farmed meats. My father did all the cooking, when I grew up and everything was made from fresh basic ingredients. All the meals, were top restaurant quality and I know he was a penny pincher. We often had a curry on a Monday. Whatever the meat was, on the Sunday would often get curried, turned into fricassée, or simply braised in left over gravy. Many of his curries contained sliced fruit, whole walnuts, sultanas and tasted wonderful. He died in 1981, but I still remember the flavours. Sharwoods used to make a good general madras curry powder. If they still do, I could replicate the curries of my youth :) You quite often mention ‘pimping up’. How about a pimping up channel?

The chicken in the budget cans is what gets stripped from the carcass after the valuable cuts are removed. So once the breast & thighs are off. If your lucky it includes drumsticks if not its all undercarrage & rear. It often gets reformed into chunks from a paste, its why it goes powdery in the mouth. The fact M&S use breast covers the price difference alone. You get what you pay for.

i knew M&S would be better from seeing the high fat and saturates content ,more butter and cream in it ,not just stock flavoured curry water thats in aldis with thickener

I find the differences between British English and American English fascinating. I wonder about British people saying "hob" and Americans saying "Stove or stove top".

If buying the MnS one I rather pay the 3 pound extra and get the chicken curry and rice from the chippy, but if Aldi then yes a cheap meal for a budget

I give up on tinned curry heat ratings....3 chilli hot means absolutely nothing. I think if coconut is in the ingredients you are lucky if you get a medium because it's usually quite mild.

Hi Gareth that was a brilliant review as I've always wondered what a tin of curry is like and you've just answered it and I'll go to M&S and try there curry and straight off the bat you could see the difference 🍻🙏

aye £3 is far too overpriced for tinned curry with no rice ,for 50p more u can get same amount of chicken tikka masala WITH pilau rice in the fresh department in morrisons

Regarding luxuray foods, i would not regard anything in a tin as luxury, luxury is fresh made, like decent steak qnd fresh meafs from a decent butchers, fresh veg and homemade baked stuff or curries from a decent takeaway etc.

Hell no as i stay away from hot and spicy or people using extra salt and pepper. Its the taste that counts for sure.

*Oh wow Bald Foodie Guy,this was an eye opener compariso* *Again, recommend watching this one* 👌🔥🔥🔥🙌 I’ve never had much luck with enjoying these curries,or ready meals .but I’ve not tried the marks one . Actually the only curry related convenience food I do like thus far is peters chicken tikka slice as it’s mild and sweet. Hope you are doing well, best regards. G

Hi, the M&S one certainly looked nicer, however if on a very tight budget the Aldi one would fill a gap. My daughter likes the M&S curry as she prefers a mild one. Best wishes A

Sometimes, it’s worth the extra, one you would eat any day, and the other you would feed to the cat😅 £3 isn’t a bad price. Great video, wonderful fun.

Enjoyed your honest review. I have never tried curry out of a tin but i will now. I might doctor the cheaper one with chili and spices. A little tip I learned in Army is if its tooooo hot just add some raisins or sultanas. Having said that- when I was in India they told me to add tomato ketchup! By the way are you not going to the Ulverston Dickensian Xmas event this weekend? Would love to see you do a video of that!!

Hi gaz i tried the iceland new king prawn tikka massala . I think it might have had a dodgy prawn in it , as i only had one mouthful and it was gross! I binned it . I d lost the receipt, and gave up trying too call them after twenty minutes!🤬. I think one of the best curries is the m & s meal deal , but thats now gone up from s tenner too twelve pounds!!!. All best . Steve👍.

I’m guessing it must be formed chicken in the Aldi one. But I would never buy curry in a can. If I’m being lazy I will use the wet and dry curry sauces from Aldi or Lidl (those with dry spices in the lid) and add my own British chicken. And that’s tonight’s dinner decided.

Hi Gareth, how about comparing M&S with Waitrose stuff & then Aldi v Lidl & finally Tesco v Sainsburys / Morrisons?!? I noticed in Asda the other day that if you spend £20.00 on Heinz branded tinned products that you can get twenty (20) tins. For the same money, with Morrisons offers, you only get fifteen (15) tins. That’s 25% saving on only twenty items. Which if people are looking to save money on food, is a big difference… Hope you are well & your family good… 👍😃..

Oh, it really bugs me when I buy something that says it's "Hot" and has a three chilli rating on it and when you try it it's about as hot as an ice cube at the South Pole.

Another student story from Aldi... 4/5 years ago that chicken curry was 79P and their tinned meatballs were 30p (shocking!). If you wanted something quick before youw ent out drinking this was it.... bit watery though.
