Fish fingers taste better than caviar anyway. I tried it once when it was on special offer. It tasted a bit like slightly salty water with a slight tang of seaweed. The texture wasn't great either. Jellied eels are a bit similar but with a stronger taste of salt & an even worse texture. Not worth bothering with. They may have been good nutrionally mind you but then so is tinned or smoked mackeral & that is not half so expensive. Could you do a comparison of tinned mackeral in tomato sauce? Personally I think the Morrisons one tastes better than the John West. I have it with salad & a bit of salad cream, which makes a quick & tasty lunch.

Thanks for these videos. Useful comparisons, and you helpfully show the ingredients. This saves me from having to get the specs out to read them in the shop. I didn't finish watching this one, because after 8 minutes, you had shown that all of them contain potato starch, which I can't eat. So thank you for eliminating all these fish fingers from my menu!

If you want omega 3 eat mackerel, not white fish which has a fraction of long chain fatty acids as oily fish, but they put lies on the box so you purchase. The colour of the fish finger is from an added dye food colourant and adds no flavour. Love a fish finger butty with loads of butter and ketchup. Great vids for folk that aren't on a politician's money !

As a born and bred 'Cornishman' growing up on a farm ON the coast in Cornwall (UK) fishing brought in Mackerel, Herring, Bass (Sea) et et 👍When I stayed at my Aunt's in Newquay Cornwall (UK) I would go down to the harbour and fetch back Mackerel freshly caught for a few bob.. 👀You're so right re the claims of these factory processed food suppliers.. Often the actual fish in some can be a blended mix of ?! 👍Oh and my mon used to make the most delicious pilchard fish cakes EVER! We make them even today to the same recipe et with a salad AWESOME! 😀Our friends swear by (and after eating some of them -we can totally agree!👍) Young's 'Gastro - Tempura battered - COD fish fingers.' They do Haddock which are cheaper but the COD is definitely AWESOME.. with a butty and NO you don't need SAUCE!! 👍

If you are doing big brand / own brand comparisons, particularly of fish or meat products, please give us a quick shot of the complete packages from all sides. At 7:15 (Asda) and 8:20 (Morrison’s) there were little ovals saying GB GG270. This tells us they both came out of the same factory, but we never saw those codes for Aldi or Birds Eye.

So difficult to compare when the weights are different. I decided to work out the price per 100grams and it comes out as follows:- Aldi 31p; Morrisons 58p; Asda 73p & Birds Eye 89p. Wish Aldi was a 10 pack then you would get a better comparison of fish texture and taste i.e. more fish in each finger.

This is what many fish processing companies DON'T want the consumers to know. 👀As a Cornishman growing up on a farm in Cornwall (UK) ON the COAST, we regularly caught Mackerel, Herring, Sea Bass, et et 👀My mom regularly made Pilchard fish CAKES.. (cheap and filling) which were the best EVER and we still, to the same recipe make them today.. with a salad.. summer AWESOME! 👍 Fish fingers sell because kids are hooked on them IF the parents let them.. home made fish cakes can be fun with kids to make FRESH and soooo much cheaper!

Hi Gaz. Great video yet again. Nothing wrong with Pollock or Pollack depending on which end of the country you live - both spellings are correct though. I much prefer its flavour and texture to that of Cod or Haddock any day. We have only been pushed towards Cod and Haddock because it is what we have come to expect from the chippy who rarely stock Pollock. One of my favourite snacks at any time of the day from breakfast through to supper is 3 fish fingers in a lightly toasted and buttered nice soft bread roll (I usually get the pre sliced ones by Warburtons) with a splash of tomato ketchup on one side and a good dollop of tartare sauce in the other.

Re the Bird's Eye sourcing info. I think the scannable code allows for different fishing grounds for different batches. The "north-east Atlantic" is a lot of ocean, and I think the BE code lets them narrow down the particular area. It's like UK meat, where they say they can track it back to a particular farm. If you were able to scan your pack then get another one next week, the chances are they'd be different batches and the scans would be different.

I'm not a fan of hash browns but having been a breakfast chef i've used different ones and they vary alot. All i can say is don't buy the co-op ones they're cheap and nasty .. in fact best not buy anything at the co-op at all. The better hash browns i found are generally the larger ones as they cook more evenly so they're crispy outside and soft inside.

Love the comparisons between Asda and Morrisons. As a previous employee of a chicken company I know that smart price Asda and Morrisons are made in the same factory the only difference between the two is the packaging and sticker placement on the Morrisons had to be centre costs a few quid more for the privilege
@clinteastwood82302 жыл бұрын
Most things are made in the same factory doesn't make them the same product . As recipes and ingredients are different . As supermarkets go to so called factory and say to them we wanna sell a 6 bag of crisps for 58p say and they say yeah . And Wat you get is smaller crisps in the packet like broken up pieces they use lower grade potatoes , lower grade flavourings . Things have always got to be cheaper for reason got to cut cost somewhere and to do that it's the ingredients . Same if your buy cheap soft drinks like lemonade the cheaper ones taste like fizzy water. You can take car tyres as a expamle you get budget and mid range And premium. Now the budget tyres are prob made by the same company that makes Goodyear or Avon . But the quality not the same as they don't last as long and don't get same grip and that
@argyle19872 жыл бұрын

I done a wee bit of this challenge, i bought aldi fish fingers & birds eye, both cod, identical ingredients but i found the birds eye were more tastier !!! Which considering the ingredients were the same , i found to be a bit odd !! Unless some manufacturers hide certain things.

It is hard to know whether to choose a top brand like Birds eye or an own brand. I like Haddock but not keen on the taste of bollock.

Iv always bought Birdsrye haddock fish fingers but for a while iv noticed the fish doesnt look nice & there's very little fish.. so I recently tryed morrisons own & the fish was so much better.. I won't pay birdseye prices again x

21:20 good point, my missus put me off Harry Ramsdens because the haddock in their Iceland range is caught in Russia

Have you tried Aldi Salmon en croute with leeks etc, we love it but would like your comments. They also do one with Cheese and Dill, haven't tried that one yet. PS: Just love your tasting programs.

How's it going mate? Love the channel. Unfortunately a lot of what you review requires the oven on fairly high for 30 mins or so. This used to make me feel guilty, using loads of power for a snack just for me, then I discovered air frying. Bought a 2.5litre Salter from Lidl, £30 I think. Bloody marvellous, I can cook loads more lovely junk much cheaper, less smells and less mess. I reckon you need one .
