I've had the Lidl, Aldi and Asda versions of this and they're all really good. I cook and shred mine on a preheated pizza stone and just follow the timings. It's delicious with some spring onion strands and cucumber. It'll stretch to two portions, just about. A nice Friday night treat for a night in, especially if there's a film after with a sweet at half time.

If you want to help with the dryness, pour all the drippings back over the meat before shredding it.... Looks like there wasnt a lot with this one but that bit of extra hot duck fat will make a difference. No better slippage juice than duck fat.

Have had this and loved it. However it is a meal for one. Spread the sauce on the pancake. Take skin off cucumber and put more on. The juice then spreads more and counteracts the dryness of the duck. Use any onions you like but very thinly cut. Lovely Jubbily as we used to say in Nelson Mandela towers

Since you had the issue with the weight of steaks in one of your steak reviews I have been weighing the meat products that I buy from Aldi and shock horror 70% of them were under the stated weight by between 7% and 20%. The weight differences were not random, for example all the minced beef was 9% under weight, bacon 11% underweight and so on. I have complained to Aldi customer service and their response was the weight on the packaging is only a guide and does not represent what you may get. Obviously this is a breach of trading standards and when I pointed this out to Aldi they stated that they would refund all the underweight products. So worth checking the weights when you buy them as this seems a deliberate act by the supermarkets.

Hi Gareth, I have heard many people say that they get indigestion from cucumber. I don't really know if this is true but I was told that it is the skin that gives people the indigestion. Had this before, and for the money (certainly compared to many takeaways) you get a lot of meat and pancakes, and the taste is just as good, if not better. I still haven't bettered the crispy duck we had at a restaurant in China Town in London the other year, but that was several times the price for several times less meat! lol

Happy bank holiday weekend Gareth and all! Used to love eating duck until the day I was given an egg to incubate in my chicken incubator and a few weeks later out popped, yes you’ve guessed it, a tiny duckling that immediately thought I was Dad (well, hopefully Dad and not Mum 😂). Of course I imaginatively christened it Donald and it turned out to be a girl 🤦🏻‍♂️😂. Never been able to eat duck since, but damn, watching you review this reminded me how delicious it is, and I certainly won’t forget it! Del-boy "What's duck in French?" Rodney "It's canard." Del-boy "You can say that again, Rodney." We tend to spread the hoisin all over the pancake and line the duck, cucumber and spring onions along it then roll it all up and bung it in! Well, a bit at a time. Haven't had it for a while now. Remember Ken Hom doing duck on TV and he had a pump to split the skin off the meat before cooking.

Well, the weight difference - that's why we have got 'mechanically recovered/reclaimed' meat. The last tiny bit of meat on the bones would have been recovered in this process. No matter how good your knife skills are - you have no chance! 200g pure meat certainly isn't a serving for 2. Perhaps with the sauce, the veggies and the pancakes and if you throw in a bottle of wine and a dessert it's ok. Another nice review, Gareth - i would try this offer! Looks pretty decent and well worth the price. Always worth seeing your reaction 😂😁 I'm living in the EU and this is one of the few times that i think UK products could be superior - at least the production of foie gras is illegal in the UK and you can be pretty sure that you don't get the leftovers of a mishandled animal! Even if it is not allowed to produce foie gras in Germany as well, we cannot prevent importing the carcasses and the meat of the animals if grown inside EUrope...

198g isn't far off the weight of an average steak, and duck isn't cheap. This seems like a good deal. This is the exact same product marketed under Gressingham, albeit that's usually £8 or more (unless on offer). Bargain really as a 'half duck' at the Chinese will cost loads more. This was a great review. 👍👍. Although I get my duck from Lidl they are basically the same as Aldi. Gressingham being the breed of crossbreeding a wild Mallard with a Peking duck. It's a shame that finding duck spring rolls is a bit hit and miss. Your duck looked really great and had my tongue hanging out 🦆🦆🦆😍😍😛😛🥰🥰. Sometimes I do swap out the Hoisin for sweet chilli, but that's the beauty of this kind of meal, you can choose your own flavour to put on. As always, keep up the great work. 👍👍 .

Could hear you salivating just before you tried the meat. It looks better and better value than other ones I've tried. I always have hoi sin sauce in a jar as I like more than companies usually provide.

Lovely reckon Grassingham produce these for all the supermarkets, you need to buy spring onions and cucumber to get the full effect

It's so good to see you enjoy the food you try. I get good ideas from watching your videos, plus I love your humour and you just seem like a great person, seriously!!...I do laugh a little when the food is really bad, but you still try it.🤭... we have similar products here from Aldi... also good to hear your accent I was actually born in Cambridge to Spanish parents. Been in Australia for 50 years. Hope you have a great day.

Well, being honest with you, the package says 56% duck - that's the whole duck piece, bone, liquefiable fat, pre-roasting added moisture and all. so by your measures you got 302g of duck+bones and not taking in account fat or lost moisture during roasting, so I would say you got a big deal as 56% of 500g (the duck portion of the meal) should come near 280g. I know I'm being pedantic but its all in jest! please forgive me! Thanks for the video! Now I'm craving duck! Guess who's going to Aldi this afternoon then, and I'm really tempted on using red onions instead of spring onions this time! Keep up the good work!
