My favourite program Gone Fishing and Bob is one of my top favourite people. Paul Whitehouse is brilliant too, they are great together, pure joy. It’s my happy time with them, they do the soul good. “ it tastes just like fried bread!, I know I fried it”. Had me chuckling. Cheers, cheese it’s the future! Bob rules! 😊

Bob Mortimer, what a great bloke. He's the type of guy you'd just love to have as a friend. Can you imagine going to the pub with him? It'd be a laugh a minute. Never heard of using mayonnaise like that before, I've made something similar using eggs though. Maybe, if you tried frying both slices on one side first, put cheese on the fried part, made the sandwich with the fried bit inside and then fried the outer side, you'd get even more crunch.

😆😆😆😭 1:50 your reaction to the noise from the mayonnaise bottle is priceless. it absolutely cracked me up. i kept on replaying that part and just couldn't stop laughing. sorry to say, but, you have to laugh, when you think of a curry night, and the morning after, you may hear that sound again...true? thats why i laughed 😁 Love, love, your channel.

Bob is among the best food writers in the Country, maybe the World. His knowledge is obvious. A man who can describe the experience of a Seabrooks crisp in both a flavour and a cultural context is onto something. A true foodie of our time.

My mother used to make us something similar when we were kids. It was called Cheese Dreams. Basically 2 slices of white bread soaked in a beaten egg mix with salt and pepper to season - whacked together with cheese in the middle and then fried. At least 1 of your 5 a day.

I think you may be swayed to cooking your toasties like this in the future!! I think it might be the eggs in the mayonnaise that give it the flavour xx

Great vlog Gaz!, when I see reduced sandwiches in supermarkets or petrol stations I get them and do them in the air fryer!, last night we had Cheese and onion with mayonnaise already in them, spray oil on the top, turn over and do them in same, 7 minutes on 200 degrees, turn over halfway and they’re amazing!. Try it out!.

Another great post, Gareth. I use mayonnaise a lot because I can't stand the texture of butter on cold things. I usually add a spoonful to my sc rambled eggs before I cook them, it makes them lovely and creamy. I also use it on the outside of the bread when I do a toastie. I might just have added some branston or Worcestershire sauce to the cheese. All the best.👍

@martinjb55
@martinjb55 2 ай бұрын
@featheredfriend1711 I had butter on things until I was eight, but I had a sandwich one day and was physically sick, and I didn't have anything with butter on it for years, I then found I could eat it melted on toast, baked potatoes etc. I had the same problem with vegetable spreads. I'm used to it now after sixty one years.

Extra tip when making those - fry all sides. So butter or mayonaise (or whatever) all sides - put both slices in the pan. When browned flip them both - add your cheese. Put the other slice on top then brown the other sides, Cheese will melt during the process and frying 4 sides makes it mega crunchy, Oh and sandwiches MUST be sliced diagonally - that's why in the shops they are always in triangle packs !!

We have always used mayonnaise on our toasted cheese sandwiches. My wife also makes the mayonnaise from scratch. If you have a food processor, you can do the same. Mayonnaise, without the chemicals tastes so much better than the store bought. And home made is much healthier. I like your choice of cheese, aged cheddar is much more flavoursome. Thanks for sharing as always.

This is similar to how i make cheese toastie without a cheese toasty machine except i use butter instead of mayo and i put the butter side down in pan, on left slice of bread - put square cheese on top of the white bread, then add grated cheese on top of the square cheese, and on the right slice of bread put square cheese on it, then flip over the right side onto the left side so you have the cheese in middle, then just flip it over now and then til outside of bread is browned enough to your taste, cheese melts like a toastie machine,, hope i explained it so you follow what am trying to say. ::)

I've seen this on other KZbin channels, it's an American idea. The thing to remember is that you can't use light mayonnaise because it's made with water, it's the oil from the mayonnaise that cooks it so basically it is a fried bread sandwich. The yanks don't flip the first piece with the cheese on it they flip it once the second piece of bread is on!

Evening Gareth, a sandwich. A cheese🧀sandwich 🍞😋A Fried Cheese sandwich!!! With Mayonnaise 😳 With your recent dealings on the sarnie front, the ones costing ££££ You make, at home a tasty treat cost 🤔about 60p including cooking. My one concern will be Paul Whitehouse's heart. He has the " Dicky Ticker ", like the undertaker in 'ello 'ello. I'm sure Bob isn't trying to collect on the insurance, just giving a mate a hearty snack. Imagine that with ham or crispy bacon😊😊🥓🥓🥓An excellent informative video, a good call out for Bob Mortimer & a nice view for us. That looked really tasty. I'm going to experiment a bit. I'm going to use garlic mayo. I might even add a slice of ham or two and some mozzarella with some extra mature cheddar. Sometimes you can use your imagination and end up with great Sarnie. This was a great lesson in cooking. For me? A cheese sandwich has taken on a whole new level. Many years ago I would make the family a ' Welsh Rarebit ' for supper. Anyone who's had it knows how tasty it was. I would add my own spin on it, so I guess it was just a plain ' Rarebit '. I haven't made one for years. That might change soon thanks to this recipe, ( I'm certainly going to give it a go ). Thank you Gareth for showing something new and something easily done at home. 👍👍. I still love beans on fried bread rather than toast.

If you put cheese in the pan first to melt then your cheese sandwich and turn again it's also very delicious !😋Will certainly try Bob's version very soon. Thanks Gareth.

If you like cheese, my Yorkshire family use a frying pan, grate lots of cheese and put butter and milk with it and stir u till the cheese melts on a low heat, we call this fried cheese and it's very tasty with a dip of bread

46 years old, and you just inspired me to make my first ever toasted sandwich because of how easy you made that look. I've done cheese on toast loads of times under the grill (one slice of toast with cheese melted on top). But never made a toasted sandwich in a pan like that. Thumbs up! It was delicious, but I burned it slightly. I will cook it low and slow next time and reckon it will be perfect

Bob didn’t invent that people have been using mayonnaise on toasties for years

A fried cheese sandwich was called a bomber sandwich back in WW2. Nobody had even heard of mayonnaise then.

Love gone fishing! I use mayonnaise on bread or cobs a lot. I kid myself it’s not as bad as a slice of butter 😃. Nice job Gareth.
