Beating Zailk is easy, give Shadowheart the command spell, use it to make him drop the sword then have Laezel grab it and attack him with it 👍

You don''t need to. You can cast the 1 as many times as you have spell slots.

If you have an item that contains a number of charges for a spell (like misty step) you can have it on two hotbar parts, one will only use the item charges the other uses spell slots

That first guy kept killing the mind flayer then my team, not sure how to beat him, tried it a few times before giving up and just bypassing the fight. At turn 9 it sends in two more soldiers.

You aren't supposed to beat the devils, at level one, in Avernus. There are millions of devils there. The mind flayer tells you exactly what to do.

Some people were able to do it by exploiting some game mechanics, like casting a dozen mage hands by using the healing pod on the ship. But it cannot be considered a 'reasonable' condition, it is indeed only by heavy exploits. In the end, it is not worth it.

If you want to get the sword, can start with easy or balanced mode first then can change to tactician afterwards.

Couple of these are pointless. No need to use the map to go in or out of the camp, there is a button right on your screen to do it. Also, no need to cast guidance before a check, you get the option to do it when the check pops up.
