Baldur's Gate 3 is like the early 2000s TLOTR trilogy. Not perfect, but nevertheless a paragon that may never be surpassed.

Personally I think that it’s an amazing game, one of my favourite games ever and I’ll play it for 100s of hours but I’d struggle to rate it 9/10 let alone 10. Like I want it to be a 10 and it’s a 10 to me, but there’s some flaws that can’t be ignored in a critical review.

It's an 8 at best. It just seems like it's better than that because of all the overmonetized chaff that is released nowadays.

It depends on your philosophy of how to score, if you start from 10 and then subtract for flaws, then no, it’s not a 10. But to me that’s a bad way of scoring. It puts small, tightly-designed, linear games at an advantage. Since they have much less material to manage, they have much less scope for flaws. I think the more reasonable approach to flaws is: Given the scale and complexity of a game, what constitutes an acceptable level of flaws, in terms of number and severity? When we put the question like that, I think BG 3 measures up very well.

Character customization had a huge amount of options. Tons of scars as well, maybe it's just dragonborn or maybe you missed it

yeah maybe, i didnt dabble with other races too much so couldve just been dragonborn issue

More games will be following suit. Expect more crpgs in the next few years. Cyberpunk, more 5e, more pathfinder etc. And companies will now fund it since they've seen a sheer success baldurs gate 3 has brought to the industry. Let's get these devs on board.

part of me is hoping dragon age dreadwolf gets rebooted but im not sure if that would be cost effective, might be better to release that game as is and then make a new dragon age game in the origins format

I kind of disagree with the character customization part, as there are options to add scars, wounds, burns ect on characters. Maybe it was just the dragonborn race? But I personally found the character creation very detailed with plenty of options

Possibly only dragonborn yeah, I dont remember seeing things like scares when I made my tiefling dream visitor though

Yeah there are plenty of scars, and all that, but in general more face options would be better imo. If you're hating sliders just as much as Larian does, and they do, more pre-made options is required. Overall, for a cRPG, it is a great character creator, for and RPG is good.

@@DCConnah Why, would they need scars on dream visitor when there are tentacles ;) But yeah, in main character creation there are scars, ear rings, some else stuff, dragonborn just don't have some, just like some other races have more than others, idk why

I think the face options really let it down. I found only 1-3 options for any race that I would ever use. I even nerfed my cleric and picked half elf instead of elf just for a slightly better face. Even some of the faces that do look good have these weird animations in cutscenes. It’s very hard to make a young smiley character male or female outside of a couple of races. I do think the hair and makeup options are very good but I would have liked to be able to customise eyebrows and facial features.

I will say the more I play bg3 the more faults I find. When I started I honestly put the game as a solid 8 or 9 out of 10 Now I am more inclined for a 7 out of 10
