This is the real take. I think Yahtzee made a video pointing out that most of this hype is due to the context of so much early access and incomplete stuff, rather than being completely on its own merits.

I think the thing that actually sold me was in the spider pit of act 1, there is a hole just in the middle of the room you can jump into, I thought, hey the game won't let me do this, and I jumped down the hole and went splat in a cutscene... I then tried again with feather fall thinking it's just going to instantly kill me again, but no, I survived and went right into the underdark... and died as two minotaur's came over to wreck my level 2 party.

This game is a generational cornerstone no matter the discourse and artificial controversy that surrounds that fact. @@CLARENCErr Yes. Between exploring, figuring out buffs, dealing with vendors, finding dyes and meticulously dying my Adamantine armour, etc. it took me roughly 50 hours on Act 1 content alone. This is including the githyanki crèche plot and my couple hours spent trying to figure out the Blood of Lathander subplot in the monastery without a guide. If the whole game was as strong and varied as Act 1, it would be literally perfect for me. The writing just started to sour in Act 2, especially with companions like Karlach.

The level 12 cap makes sense. It's the same reason why most 5e adventure paths end at 13-14. Because tier 4 play is drastically different. Which is basically what larian said as well.

Yeah but you're doing outrageously epic-level things. Killing devils, killing the avatars of Illithid Brains and demigods, killing entire armies and leaders of Sharran churches. These are not level 12 activities. It might be capped at 12 but the magic absolutely plays like 21+. My biggest complaint is how nothing is special anymore. Tieflings, Drow, Devils, Monsters, etc, are just everywhere. Hanging out in taverns and joining your party and everything. It's a very odd choice and makes it difficult to roleplay your class if you're constantly compelled to take them on as allies or ignore their existence on the city streets.

Just leaving a comment to say you are the man, Joe. I've been watching you for probably more than a decade now, since I was a little kid. It makes me so happy to see you still making these reviews with exactly the same style, the same enthusiasm, the very same leather jacket and t-shirt. Keep doing what you do. To me, you're one of the greats.

and so the gamer retreated to his hole once more, where all that could be heard were a series of grunts, cackles and sobs backdropped by the sounds of baldurs gate 3, when this gamer emerges again during the summer, he will have undergone a key metamorphosis, many will hardly recognise him, but this is an important and necessary point in the life cycle of every gamer.

honestly, even with the bugs, act 3 is still the best act for me. It's completely jampacked with content in a bustling city, and many quests to finish up your companion's story are sooo good. *well maybe karlach's story are not as good but it is what it us

It helps that Larian actually is really attentive to the criticisms and reports of problems and resolves them quicklg with updates. There were three huge game breaking bugs in Acts 2 and 3 on launch, and within two days, those bugs were patched and retro-fixed for people whose games were halted because of them

@@sircosmo21 Did you actually finish the game or did you just have that opinion because you read few reddit posts about this ? It's fucking baffling that in a game with 120+ hours worth of good content that people still complain about some cut contents. Just play battle royale and battlepass games , they have unlimited content that eats your whole soul and money. Not the game for you

Unfortunately for me I had to abandon my playthrough in act 3 due to many game breaking bugs, crashes, NPCs missing, game over cut scene started playing whenever my party member got downed... Kept reloading to act 2 trying to fix it for 10 hours, so I just gave up and started a new playthrough. But the game is still amazing, I hope they fix act3 with couple patches.

They should add a encounter builder where you can setup an arena and add different enemies. Or a multiplayer death match mode where your party is matched against someone elses, it can be an arena or underground fightclub in the lower city or something.

The exact moment i felt this game was magical was when i was in a particular companion quest turning point, it's either i convince them or their story heads in a disaster with a difficulty class of 20, no inspiration left, then i freaking roll a nat 20,and i didn't even have any bonuses, all i was guidance, i almost freaking screamed in the middle of the night. I will remember this game forever

The essence of real tabletop D&D, with a competent DM, is that there are consequences and they matter, fir good or bad. No saving, no loading, just learning and pushing on. BG3 will never replace "real" D&D, but it's earned my respect and love, as has Larian in general. This game has been but a glimpse of where game could be, and SHOULD be, if not for rampant corporate greed running most of it.

Played BG2 over 20 years ago and it blew me away when I was a kid coming from the great jrpgs of the snes era. Since then my tastes in gaming have changed drastically so i was skeptical about whether or not I would still enjoy a crpg in 2023. I can safely say the game and its world hooked me yet again and it is a masterpiece.

@ShenMerrick
@ShenMerrick Жыл бұрын
@@ravenmadd3895 If you are thinking that then start with BG1. The things with the old BG1 & BG2(plus expansions) is that 2 is an immediate sequel to 1. And, at least back in the day, you could transfer your character from BG1 to BG2...which I believe still works with the Steam versions. I played them extensively back in the day. Also Icewind Dale is loosely connected, but not in a sequel fashion.

I remember when they first announced this game, because Baldur's gate 2 is my favorite game of all time, I was a little bit worried. It felt almost exploitative that larian was calling this game Baldur's gate even though it had Divinity combat and the story was seemingly disconnected from the other two games. I finally beat the game about a week ago and I've started a co-op playthrough with my friends. Baldur's gate 3 did the impossible, it's surpassed Baldur's gate 2 in my mind. Don't get me wrong, both games are still absolutely fantastic but you can see the progression of CRPGs over the years when you compare BG2 and BG3. You can see how they integrated mechanics from games like Disco Elysium and Divinity original sin 2 into the formula that was defined by the original Baldur's gate games. Bg 3 is a milestone in gaming and It will likely not be surpassed for a long time.

Never played dnd so some words and things didn’t make sense to me. Top down ish and turn based style of combat isn’t my thing anymore but I found myself enjoying it more and more as I went on. I think my favorite part really is how complex everything is especially dialogue and choices you make in the game. There’s a lot of freedom in what you can actually do in the world as depicted in a lot of footage and skits in this video. I found myself saving and reloading a lot so I can see all the different outcomes and do all sorts of crazy and creative things!
