Just thought you should know, for most casters taking a single level dip into Wizard allows you to learn scrolls based on your caster level and not wizard level, while this might mean you will need to use your int, you can easily get a helm in the early game that makes your int 17 for as long as you wear it.

If you wanted to max skill proficiencies, woodelves get both proficiency in stealth and perception along with the movementspeed increase. Not sure why the two skill proficiencies aren't listed but if you check the baseline elf, perception proficiency isn't listed there either. So woodelves get all the elf bonuses + speed increase & stealth proficiency. There's also Githyanki and then not picking a single charisma or wisdom based skill and using astral knowledge to get 4 free skill proficiencies permanently that you just re-up every long rest.

It is a testament to how well balanced the game is that an intentionally "bad" build wound up being kinda viable. Mortym knows the systems enough to make the best out of an inefficient build, but most inexperienced people making inefficient builds won't roll something as bad as a Jack of All Trades build. They'll roll a wizard with mediocre intelligence or something, which is still going to be relatively effective.

Doing this right now with a friend. Our strat is to use the stat pumping items so we can dump them at the start. For instance, I have my Dex and Str at 8, but there's gloves I can get very early in Act 2 that set my Dex to 18, and a melee weapon you can get in the Underdark that sets your strength to 19. For my friend (we're duoing), he dumped Intelligence because you can very quickly get a helmet that'll set your Int to 17. My end stats will be 19 Strength, 18 Dexterity, 17 charisma, 16 constitution, 13 wisdom, and 12 intelligence. Not half bad.

1 level of wizard allows you to learn from scrolls any spell you have spell slots for. So with the headband of intellect for 17 int, you could prepare 4 lvl3 spells like fireball and haste if you find the scrolls.

@@ovidiudiumea4012 In tabletop DnD5e yes. But right now wizard lvl1 is all you need in BG3. I play a cleric 2/sorcerer 8/wizard 1 at the moment and I have learnt lvl6 spells from scrolls as a wizard 11 would do in tabletop. No idea if it is a bug or Larian choice.

Been doing this challenge myself and my character turned out to be one hell of a beefcake to take down in combat (high con, str). The one thing that this challenge offers is that you are guaranteed max hp for all level ups w/ con modifiers. No weird dice rolls for hp level ups unlike pure or duo class builds. Con stat is ur savior in this challenge.

I think this would be a VERY big deal. Ability to learn spells from spell level 1-3 adds a lot of versatility. Those spells just don’t matter if you don’t hsve enough of a saving throw or hit modifier. Having a +3 modifier instead of a +4 or 5 is still s big deal. It’s a 5-10% reduction in accuracy. No idea if there’s a more impactful head armor for him. I’m guessing he can’t respec at any point. So, he would need to make INT a dump stat then counter it at about level 3 by picking up that head armor. If you focus on spells with no saving throw as a support character that may be safer. I’m guessing animate dead would be decent. Maybe fire sphere (this still uses INT for the attack roll). A Raven familiar to blind people would be something.

If you want to, you can also take the ability-setting items into consideration, and dump many stats: 1. Warped Headband of Intellect: Act 1, set your intellect to 17 2. Club of Hill Giant Strength: Underdark, set your strength to 19 3. Gloves of Dexterity: Act 2, set your dexterity to 18 4. Amulet of Greater Health: Act 3, set your constitution to 23 5. Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength: Act 3, set your strength to 23 (contradict with dex glove) So essentially, if your companions can carry you to at least act 2, then you can dump int, str and dex and focus on wis and cha str 8 dex 8 con 15 int 8 wis 15 cha 15 and add +2 and +1 as you wish, you also get +1 for one stat (wis or cha) from hair, making one stat (wis or cha) being 18 and the other one being 16, your con eventually will be 23 with amulet

I actually started with ranger and took the option that gets heavy armor proficiency, since ranger gives all the same weapon proficiencies and almost as many skills as starting rogue. I also found that dissonant whispers and inflict wounds were the best level 1 spells that scaled best when upcasting for single target spells, but I found using spell scrolls for summons helped mitigate the party's damage output. Especially conjure elemental and planar ally. I also would use sanctuary on my character and have them just heal and buff the party a lot.

Just did this to Astorian. Thieves get a second bonus action they can use for an additional off hand attack. Had him pick up a level in fighter for Two Weapon fighting to give his off hand attacks a little more bite.

I’m starting my own jack run, and my ideas were very similar to yours with one major exception. Githyanki are AMAZING for skills. You get proficiency in every skill for an attribute, moveable every day or as you progress through the game. I plan on using it mostly for charisma proficiencies early game, then late game use illithid powers for expertise and move the Githyanki ability over to wisdom or intelligence most of the time.

I think I'd start with Warlock and use the high charisma + armor that gives you +1 to nature, arcade, etc to pass every check possible. But I might also try that electric armor set. I'd use as much of my illithid powers as possible. The Gith place has that contraption and tons of extra jars, and there's that mind flayer in the underdark who gives you a recipe for whatever strengthens it. I literally just got to Act 2 tonight. Finally finished all the Act 1 content that wasn't part of early access. I also haven't consumed any illithids, so I'm making a lot of assumptions right now.

I'd say there are two ways of playing for this achievement. What you did, however I'd change the class order to be rogue>war cleric>fighter and then it's very free pickings, doing what you did, archery and using a lot of the special arrows for their effects(picking rogue as your first levels nets you one extra skill proficiency). Something you can do really well with that war cleric class early as well is using bless for buffing both your own attack rolls and allies. The other option imo. Is playing an intelligence caster. Picking up wizard and then every different full caster. Probably sorcerer second just because they get access to level 1 sub class and then war cleric is probably the right choice again, possibly knowledge cleric? Either way. You play a wizard without a subclass. Honestly not that weak, since you'll start out with full caster levels, your spell levels will scale like normal and then you can learn spells from scrolls. At level 5 I suggest picking up glyph of warding, being one of the best aoe spells in the game. Other good options are of course thunder wave and haste. You might end up being more of a support caster with this kind of build, but support casters are really strong. After you have all the spell caster levels, you probably pick up rogue into fighter again. Always so good to have the archery or alternatively defense combat style. Dex should probably be your second highest Stat anyways, you can then transition into the same special arrow kind of build, which you probably already had the crossbow and heavy armor for already equipped as you pick up cleric early for the weapon and armor proficiencies. And the build should look roughly the same but with a stronger caster focus instead of the bow and arrow focus.

I am doing this run by rolling a dice to randomly pick my next multi class. Went for 13 in all stats. Found hex+EB, shield of faith + sneak attack, or magic missile + tempus flight to be my main turns in combat.

Don't know it's intended or a bug, but someone using a ranged weapon keeps the +ac from an equipped shield. You can also use it while casting as you don't need a free hand, though you need the proficiency or it blocks spells

I got this by running Zariel Tiefling since you get darkvision, fire resistance, and skills at certain levels (searing smite at level 3, branding smite at level 5) both of which can be used on melee and ranged attacks for some extra damage and utility early on. I primarily focus Charisma (17 charisma to get 18 from Auntie Ethel) and I take Con to 16. Dex is my third stat, and I dump wisdom and intelligence, keeping strength at 10. You can boost int to 17 with a hat when you need to, and Wisdom saves can be helped with a few available rings later on. I also started fighter for all of the proficiencies and con saves to help with concentration, and I went warlock at second level for the Eldritch Blast, Hex and Arms of Hadar spells. Don't worry about Armor of Agathys, we can get that later. Afterwards, you can level up any class of your choosing, though I personally prefer dipping into sorcerer at level 3 for the white draconic bloodline dip. This is important because you can pickup Armor of Agathys despite not grabbing it from warlock. Casting AoA using the higher level slots you get from the combined caster levels is insanely valuable for both survivability and damage. At level 4, I normally take Wizard so I can start learning spells from scrolls. Afterwards, I took war cleric for the bonus action attacks and went random on all classes going forward. I primarily used bloodlust elixirs with haste potions to spam attacks. My favorite combo was to use the pulling eldritch blast to pull enemies near me, then using war priest bonus action attack with my mainhand to deal damage. Definitely a fun build, was capable of beating tactician with it thanks to some of the insane gear that is available at endgame.

I started out with a Brass Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer, 15 str, 8 dex, 16 con, 10 wis, 8 int, 16 cha. I went, in order with each level, Bard, Fiend Warlock, Fighter, Life Cleric (Mystra), Oath of the Ancients Paladin, Rogue, Druid, Wizard, Ranger, Barbarian, Monk. Everything from Sorcerer to Cleric gave me proficiency with every weapon and armor type, along with useful spells and cantrips. Barbarian and Monk were pretty much just to fill up the requirements for the achievement. Also, to keep in the spirit of Abserd, I named this young lady: *_Ridi Kulus!_* Truly, she was inspired by the greatness of Abserd and followed in his footsteps to ensure the defeat of all the evil and daaaanger!

I'm glad I saw this before attempting it. I was planning to do a Dark Urge Playthrough for this one. And it makes sense that you dip into all sorts of classes since Dark Urge couldn't remember who he/she is during the start of the game. But once that big reveal happens, you would be level 12 already and the trophy is unlocked, you can then Re-Spec after to realize the bad ass that you are. Maybe doing it on Tactician will be more of a challenge, what do you think?

I'm not sure if it works the same way in BG3 but Armor of Agathys is really good when upcasted in D&D 5E. It gives you 5 temp HP per spell level and does 5 cold damage when hit with a melee attack per spell level as well. So, once you hit level 3 spells, you will get a 15 HP barrier that does 15 cold damage on melee per hit. Most enemies will do extra damage through multiple attacks so as long as you don't get hit for the full 15 temp HP in one hit, you'll be doing a minimum 30 cold damage if you get hit twice. And even if they do more damage than that in one hit, it's 15 less damage you would take normally anyway.

I find that spell to be too expensive in the pen and paper game (spell slots are just too rare). I find that in BG3 the temp hit points just don’t last. You’re good for 1-2 hits. That burns up half your casting for a whole short rest. And, if you took damage from things other than melee a BIG aspect of the spell is wasted. I’ve tried using it. I really have. Warlock is just too weak to also burn a spell slot on it. Are you pact of the fiend? You’ll get plenty of temp hit points from that without spending a spell slot. At about level 5 it’s worth roughly 0-30 offensive damage. That’s often not nothing. But, 0-15 damage isn’t great for a third level spell slot. That changes to 0-20 damage for a fourth level spell slot at level 7-8. It just doesn’t scale very well. It’s not really adding much and each spell slot is SO precious on a warlock.

I'm half way to level 12 as well to be able to get this achievement and I am around 30-35% done with Act 3. I don't know yet if I'm going to respec after I get the achievement, because combat even on balanced difficulty may cause issues once I get to the 'end game' combat encounters of the act. I may try to finish the game with it, since I really like having all the 12 classes show up in dialogue choices is extremely gratifying to me in a weird way. My character is not really fit for combat all that much since I started as a Skill Monkey (initial plan) then around level 4-5 I decided to go for the achievement and I min maxed my companions to be able to carry the combat encounters. I started Rogue > Bard > Ranger > Cleric > Warlock > Fighter > Druid and kept the paladin for last because I didn't want to have a random oath broken and ruin things for me, since I'm forced to playing straight arrow good guy. Obviously this was mostly for Skill checks created hence the decision to go Knowledge Cleric and then Warlock and being the party's rogue/face/scouter.

Sounds to me like warlock would be the way to go. Plus you’d get the potent robes late in act 2 which would effectively give you the agonizing blast invocation. This may eliminate the need to worry about heavy armor. There is the item on act three that lets you do cantrips twice per turn. That’s 6 eldritch blasts each with your charisma modifier in act 3. That feels better than a single arrow attack. But, if you’re going to use arrows … maybe dual wield hand crossbows for a bonus action attack each round.

Personally, if I were to do this kind of playthrough, I would have made the character more into a support caster type, essentially the "bard" of the group and had everyone else be damage-focused or have two dps and one support (or just a wizard becuase they can do either support or damage). I would load up on a lot of spells that scale well or don't need concentration. - 16 DEX, 16 CHA, 14 CON would probably be my go-to major starting stats. - Start as fighter, defense fighting style, sword and board for melee and switch back and forth between ranged and melee sets to maintain AC between turns - Dual-wield hand crossbows for the off-hand attack, main hand attack eventually replaced with eldritch blast from warlock around level 5 character level, war cleric as stated in the video is a good alternative - Buff party members with spells like Longstrider, Mage Armor, Bless, Enhanced Leap, Protection from Good and Evil before battle - CC low HP enemies with spells like Sleep and Colorspray and alter the battlefield with Fog Cloud and Create Water - Use Shield as your main reaction to prevent damage, upcasted Armor of Agathys for temp HP and damage to melee attackers, and Magic Missile for when you need guaranteed damage - Since you have decent Charisma, I would take all the proficiencies you can for the social skills to act as the party Face and perception is always useful

Would focus on eldritch blast potentially be better than the bow attacks? I like the logic behind the arrows! Different effects. That’s great. And, the accuracy from the fighting style is great! But, since eldritch blast actually scales up … that feels like it may be better. I don’t think you get access to agonizing blast with one level of warlock. But, you would get access to the potent robes which would basically give you the invocation via the robe. And, then there is the late game item that lets you do two cantrips per turn. That’s 6 eldritch blasts per turn with your charisma modifier on each one. That sounds like a more effective act 3 to me. Plus, the other modifiers you can get that will help these attacks out. You could even go with Halfling for the increased accuracy via rerolls (and increased skill checks, and better saving throws).

@@MortismalGaming what about hand crossbows to use the bonus action to fire a second arrow? I’ve not experimented with this. I don’t know if archery is better for accuracy. Or if accuracy is good enough and taking two weapon fighting for the dex modifier on the offhand may be better. This would allow for hunter’s mark or hex to trigger twice per round. Or, maybe thrown weapons. Eventually there’s the item to apply strength to the weapon a second time. This misses out on the utility of the arrows though. I’m guessing you can throw things in your main hand and also your offhand.

I think there is a decent argument to flip the Fighter and Rogue levels around, trading heavy armour for 2 extra skill proficiencies. As strong heavy armour doesn't appear for some time into the game your not losing anything early on, and even later, your probably only losing 1 AC. Your also opening up your choices for your background, and possibly your race, Wood Elf as Hobo notes would take that a step further. As your standard group doesn't have Astarion (who is perhaps my least favourite cahracter anyway), having Sleight of Hand on your custom character is good news, though with your decent Dex and the three ealy skill boosting items (Smuggler's Ring, Silver Pendant and Gloves of Thievery) I can see you getting by to a passable degree even without proficiency.

You're also going to get Heavy Armor and all Martial Weapons from early War Cleric, so Fighter literally only gives Archery and Second Wind if you go into it later. The main boon from going Fighter lv1 will be the con save proficiency to concentrate on stuff like upcasted Bless and the higher starting HP.

Given the build is focused on ranged attacks, Con Ssave prof is nice, but I don't think it is enough against the extra skill profs, on top of that the weapon profs from Rogue and Elf cover most (though I admit not all, H Crossbow and Rapier I think being the two that fall by the wayside) weapons your likely to want to use in this build.

Is it a good idea to learn spells with wizard scrolls? maybe you could still learn 2nd and 3rd level spells this way

@MortismalGaming Without cheesing tactics (pre-placing exploding barrels everywhere for hard fights), how feasible do you think it would be to do a jack of all trades achievement run for all characters in the party on Tactician, not just your main? I didn't hear you mention much use of scrolls or alchemy and so maybe you'd need to lean on that more. It would be interesting to start each character on a different class to spice it up so you don't have 4 archers.

I'm definitely not interested at all in doing this achievement properly, mostly because I just don't find multiclassing to be very fun (partly due to class fantasy/RP reasons, and partly because of all the things you miss for your "main" class, including possibly a 4/8/12 ASI/feat). So for that reason alone, I appreciate you doing the run so I don't have to 😅

Shame scroll scribing isnt in this game because for a run like this they would be incredibely usefull however being able to scribe high level spells would be extremely op .
