She's surprisingly insightful, especially with Astarion. "What purpose does he have that does not involve his Master? He fears him, he hates him, he dreams of him - and he will either kill him, or die trying. Astarion is no more free of Cazador than you or I are free of our tadpoles." Like damn. If she wasn't innately cruel, she'd be a create therapist.

Honestly she contradicts herself the most with Astarion. First she claims that Astarion is addicted to freedom and will always be a slave as long as he is addicted to it... and that he won't be free as long as Cazador exists. But then she jumps to the conclusion that the solution is that Astarion has to take over Cazadors power and essentially follow in Cazadors footsteps... which we know Astarion mainly pursues because he is addicted to freedom.

@@RUMandNUKAyou have to keep in mind she’s still ultimately evil, and evil people aren’t exactly well adjusted. Astarion can either reject power and grow beyond Cazador, or embrace it and replace him. In Minthara’s twisted mind the right answer is the latter.

@@RUMandNUKA She's saying that Cazador is so ingrained in every part of his life that he will be unable to move forward until he has dealt with that situation. Whether that means killing him, surpassing him, becoming him, or dying by his hand. He's literally obsessed, which is a form of slavery. Albeit mentally. You see that in the Scenario where you kill Cazador without him. Not only is Astarion still forever bound to a dead man now, but he also felt that you robbed him of closure. Everything he had gone through to escape Cazador up till then gone to waste.

Similar to shadowheart she focused on what would give that individual more raw strength as it would help in accomplishing their goals. even with shar being poisonous to shadowheart herself.

Even funnier, if Minthara is in the party when a character dies, she'll usually promise to avenge them... unless it's Gale, where she says "The wizard has fallen. Typical" Even after he's dead, she's still taking shots

@@Piranha-Boy don't choose a side. Karlach will attack you if you kill the druids, Minthara will not be in Moonrise Towers if you save the druids. then don't pick a side. Spoilers ahead : If you don't help the druids, Minthara will kill them (but it won't be your fault so Karlach is ok with that), won't find the artefact and will come to MT hands empty, she'll be put in jail by the act2's bbeg and you'll have to save her in order to recruit her

@@paawan3764 Yeah the way her story goes doesn't conflict with any of the other party members, she's no more evil than they are, and if you extend the artifact to her at the camp it's not like she wouldn't turn then. Just really weird. They wanted to have an 'evil' party member but she doesn't even enjoy the evil choice you made to get her.

She is just so Not-evil-at-all... I love it. Regarding the shadowheart... It would be better for us for her to be with shar. But its better for HER to be free. And you can just hear and feel how much does she hate the goddess infulence. In fact, she is acually happy for Shadowheart and her newly found freedom. All things considered, her past and being a goddamn drow. She is actually coming along very well.

She is still evil if it serves her pragmatism. That is a lot unlike Viconia or Orin and such but still evil. It's a result of the standards of drow society if nothing else.

I'd reverse the order. As for what the Rouge will do...well, that depends - if they have enough health points, cover to hide in, or can deal enough damage to finish you off before you can finish them off, they might manage to avenge their friends. (Somehow Astarion has wound up being the highest damage dealer in my party, and I still have no idea how that happened...)

My Lae'zel will jump 30 feet through the air at you and get 8 attacks off before you can blink, and counter anything that misses her. And with evasive footwork and an armor class of 27, something will. Hope whomever you're playing can tank 9 hits of 20-50 damage.

Before I recruited Minthara I only heard that she was ‘evil’, but I definitely don’t regret sacrificing the tieflings to recruit her, even though I only just recently found out when it was too late for me that in the new update you don’t have to kill the tieflings to recruit her. Minthara has so many layers. I actually really like her. She’s so insightful, and her raspy chainsmoker voice is amazing.

Pretty sure there’s a mod that allows you to on Nexus. Causes Minthara to disappear when reaching 50% health if you attack her and the other Goblin Camp leaders, but allows for her to appear at Moonrise and circumvent that bit. Might cause some Camp placement overlap with Halsin though. Not sure. Haven’t tried the mod yet.

​@@11070gikHey this is gonna be some spoilers for Act 1 & 2; There is a way to recruit Minthara and save the Grove without mods or turning her into a goat. When you're inside the camp and find her, you have to make sure she's temporarily hostile against you. Once you initiate combat (try to pickpocket or a crime in front of her), set non lethal on and knock her out (I'm not sure if this is important too, but try to daze her before you end combat). Finish the rest of the camp while she's knocked out, inform the Grove, celebrate, and Minthara will be gone from the story until you reach Moonrise Towers in Act 2. She'll be on trial with Ketheric, pleading for mercy. After a couple of high skill checks, convince him to throw her in the dungeons. Go to her cell and finish the enemies inside the cell with her. After you free her, make your way out of Moonrise where you'll be able to recruit her. I have no idea how she generally works out in this long term; I'm not sure if she will stay with your camp as long as her approval is fine or if something happens to her later in the story, but she will share a tent with Halsin. From there, you may choose to recruit or dismiss her at your own leisure.

You can actually recruit both Halsin and Minthara in the same playtrough and save the grove. Just "kill" her with a non lethal attack and kill all the other Goblin leaders. now have fun with that knowledge

@@hoangdung7494 I actually ended up doing that with a 'good' and well meaning playthrough - was playing tactician with only one other party member while rescuing Halsin, and he got killed by the goblins after a few unlucky critical strikes; I retreated with a potion of Invisibility because I couldn't handle 6 goblins, 2 escaped wargs and 3 more summoned wargs as a level 2 Wizard with just Cantrips. Returned to the grove to buy potions to help (and maybe revivify Halsin), of course then I found out the druids had completed their ritual. Minthara tried to kill me, though I managed to escape. Met her again much later at Moonrise and was able to recruit her. Amazing how one screw-up changes large portions of a playthrough.

Yes and no. Regill mostly cares about order, Minthara mostly cares about herself. The means are the same : pragmatic, cruel, but their goals are quite different. That said... I'm salty that fascist gnome is not romanceable :'(

Think you can get all of them if you dont side with anybody, just go to the mountain pass or the underdark before doing the Grove quest and it will auto resolve.

I feel like locking companions behind clear choice of good vs evil was a bad move, purely from gamedesign PoV. Especially considering that alternative to Minthara is a Halsin - Druid, and we already have an option to get Druid as our companion in Act 2. So in the end it feels like you've been punished for playing good side - having two druids in your party is just meaningless, considering Jaheira is leagues better of Halsin, just by virtue of being herself and the companion from previous games.

Avoid the grove after the fight at the entrance. Be aware, that if you take this option, it will permanently cut you off from most of Karlach's story, even if you keep her around.

She isnt wrong about the balance part... When you look at "products" of nature such as vegetation and wild life, they all are in a constant war for total domination. Nature (on its own) is absolutely not about the balance (or peacefull coexistence), but about weeding out the weakest and evolving the survivours. For me, it is something that completely ruins the classic archetype of a hippe-trehugging druid in its entirety.
