Oh boy, anyone who knows the actual lore of Shar and Selune know just how misled and lied to Shadowheart was.

@@avishkasen Shar is the evil god of darkness, loss, and secrets. She is evil and wants the entire world to be permanently cloaked in twilight, and every household to be living in fear, or plotting to kill or be killed to rise above. A world of people who share nothing with each other if they can help it, for she grows in power every time someone dies with truths unsaid. A shar follower admitting they're in love with someone doesn't do anything for shar. Someone dying before being able to confess their loves makes her moister than an oyster Shar takes the memories from her clerics, often they are normal people so overcome with loss that they answer the whisper in the dark with a "Yes" when it offers to take their pain away, and a false worldview is given to them. Other followers are powerful shadowvar and liches, ancient wizards from the recently dead empire of Netheril, who seek only to increase their own power. And... rarely.... Shar's followers kidnap chosen of Selune and make them believe they serve Shar. Nothing pleases Shar more than to steal from her Sister Selune. During the time of troubles when both great deities walked the world as mortals (I use that term loosely, they were gods compared to regular mortals), instead of killing Selune, Shar usurped her faith and pretended to be her. My guess is that Shadowheart is a cleric of Selune

Addendum, on what Gale said: Shar tried to take the weave of magic from dead Mystra so that Shar's followers could conquer the world just a few years before this. Unfortunately for her, Mystra wasn't as dead as everyone thought, she kept backup copies of herself in her chosen and Volo of all people (that's how he always seems to survive everything). Mystra returned and her empowered chosen stopped Shar at the expense of the elven city of Myth Dranor. The entire Netherese city of Thultanthar was also destroyed, and while its leaders were evil, many thousands of innocents lived there as well. A massive and senseless lost of life that rocked north central Faerun. Shar's followers do not have a lot of friends.

@@override367 Wow, I was just starting to type up my response too, you’re right on the number though. 👍 Only thing I’d add is that Shar also was essentially directly responsible for the Spell Plague of the Forgotten Realms, (massive magic plague that basically made all magic unstable) when she sent the mad god Cyric to assassinate the goddess of magic Mystra, in order to usurp Mystra’s power and planes of existence for herself.

​@@override367 Holy shit. I kinda figured that Shar was pretty evil but I didn't know that she was that fucken cruel. Would be one hell of a nice twist to find out that what you said on Shadowheart being one of Selune's clerics turned to be true. Lets see how it turns out. Solid explanation. Thanks lads.

I tried that - you will have special dialogue options with her while discovering the world. And the chest in Selune's hideout will be opened for you without any problem. After this you will have a lot of options as Selune cleric in dialogue with Shadowheart. But unfortunately during kiss scene she doesn't mention your Selune devotion which is kind of set. Because with this stuff some fun forbidden love melodrama can be created.

Yes! Ugh, I hate her illithid rolls so much (the ones in the blighted village, you can only get one variant per game too) That being said, I should try to compile them all in one video because it is interesting.

Don't have the game myself yet, so not sure if it's possible, but could you not beat the system by having shadowheart cast guidance on you before dialogue interactions with her, and thus lower the dc of charisma checks with her or increase the modifier for your roll?

Understandable... however, isn't the whole point of Shadowheart's "deity" Secrets and misdirection? So of course it might be difficult to pry any information out of her lol

I'm pretty sure that Shadowheart is tied to Selune and that you'll get the option to 'respec' her into a Life Cleric. Her stats just don't make sense without heavy armour proficiency.

In the latest patch it seems her stats have been reset. She now has much better dexterity, even strength, and a negative intelligence, which makes more sense, given how she was an Urchin and also has forgotten a lot of things due to Shar.

@@sandrols7 Thanks for the heads-up! I'm looking at the changes now, her stats work much better now for a Trickery Cleric. Slap a breastplate on her and she's got 16 AC without disadvantage to stealth checks, which makes her quite good at flanking enemy squads with Astarion before combat begins. She'd be strictly better with 14 Dex and 14 Con instead of 15/13 but clerics are already very strong in 5e so it's not a critical weakness. Astarion also had his stats updated; +4 Int, +1 Con, -1 Wis, -4 Str, which make him a little tougher and a capable Arcane Trickster. With 17 Dex and 13 Int as his only odd-numbered stats you're somewhat encouraged to go that route in order to be 'efficient'.

I have wondered why the mindflayers were afraid of Shadowheart enough that they put a strong magic seal around her cage, that she was carrying the 'secret weapon' of the githyanki and that she has that 'white light' power that appeared when she got near Selune's statue

Oh man, now this here is a good premise, might do a run like it myself... although I think I'll save it for official release when I can run a Forge Domain cleric, cause otherwise that party is going to be in desperate need of a solid front line. Since Lae'zel doesn't mix very well with Shadowheart... or anyone with a Good Alignment really.

@@JoviaI1 Lol, I'm just still salty about Wyll. I didn't recruit him on my first playthrough since I went straight to the Goblin Camp after talking to Nette. So I killed all the captains and rescued the druid only to return to camp and meet an angry stranger mad that I didn't bring him along for a quest I didn't know about after he recruited himself and is now snarky whenever I talk to him.

Yeah pretty much lol. I think I'm missing two more scenes that arent Selunite variants (her box and Halsin dialogue) in the dialogue options. (Shar Clerics actually get more dialogue with her, which I will upload haha)

@@jenmygem Yeah -- I was doing a solo run and sent her to camp but she turned up at the Druid's Grove pondering her box. Recruited her again and sent her back to camp. Weird.

I must say that I dislike how D&D 5e's elves look...they seem to be facially human but with pointy ears. Drow look vaguely more elfin, but that's not a gigantic achievement. In fact, D&D artwork has infrequently done elves justice since the end of AD&D 2e/start of D&D 3e.

If you're talking about Shadowheart, she's a Half Elf, and the PC might be one, as well - I don't think that's one of the Elf faces? But it may be, actually. Might just be that I'm unfamiliar with it at this point, or in that shade.

Can i just say i don't like Shadowheart at all, and even if she was lied to by Shar(which is probably the case), she is willfully rude and so judgemental. Not sure if that developed with Shar worship.

yikes what a downgrade from BG 2 and BG 1 the portraits are so shallow so boring compared to those games. also the dice rolls do nothing.

The dice rolls actually do a LOT in this game, it's pretty impressive and fun! Those portraits defo need work though, I THINK they've changed since back then (as it's still in early access development) but I can't say for sure.
