So all stories beats just work cause the chars have nearly no identities and are all super tolerant of anything ever and any character traits are shallow surface level stuff such as «shadowheart and la’zael bicker for 5 lines while wandering». Those 5 lines done? BAM they trust eachother now and have no more issues between eachother.

TBF most of the characters in this game were designed with “how do we subvert their class’s trope” - Paladin. “Lawful Stupid/Good the class”. Minthara is extremely cunning and quite solidly in Lawful Evil. - Cleric. “Gentle healer and good-aligned”. Shadowheart is, at least when we meet her, a zealot of an evil goddess. - Barbarian. “Angry and stupid rage machine”. Yeah, Karlach is angry, but her anger is directed towards injustice, and she’s not a simpleminded buffoon, she’s an insightful and golden hearted sweetie. - Warlock. “Edgy boi, all about”. Wyll is a textbook good boy. He took the deal to help others. Hell, if he didn’t take a warlock pact, I can see him being a devotion or good-aligned vengeance paladin. - Rogue. “Edgy boi plus, all about thievin’ and sneakin’”. Astarion is actually more of a social assassin. He has charms and is extremely flamboyant, to the point many thought he was a bard at first glance. - Gale. “Nerd”. Uh. Yeah this is the only one that’s kind of straightforward, but they made it interesting by exploring the side effects of a life dedicated to arcana. He’s socially awkward, self-righteous, and, stealing from warlock, has a hunger for power. - Fighter. “Hit stuff”. Yes, Laezel hits stuff, but she’s a battle master and a tactician. She thinks of combat not based on battle, but on the scale of a war. She’s also sharp and aggressive, yet is far from fearless.

@@GlizzyGoblin757 I think Karlach is a well written character because that optimism she shows is more of a facade then genuine most of the time. When her true emotions come out you can really see how unstable she really is beneath all of that fake optimism and pretense of being the strong and reliable companion all of the time. She is a broken woman pretending to not be broken, so if that was what they were going for they did a good job. Her trying to be the best person act is overdone because she doesn't know how "normal people" behave and her friendliness comes more from the perspective of her being afraid to end up alone. This is ofc not fully realized before the end parts of act 3 and i can understand people grow tired of her before that point... because the general idea of tragic characters are the brooding, angry or crying types not the pretender type. However it shows she was one of the last characters to be fleshed out properly before the release, some dialogue should had been re-examined etc. Her competition is very strong so it's hard to appreciate the angle they were going for with Karlach.

Astarion also pretends a lot and there's a lot of acting on his side but you can feel his sadness and problems. Karlach on the other side is so overly positive its hard to understand if that what she came through was really that painful

@@asdfgh-th1bb I agree that the execution wasn't the best, it clearly shows she's the character they struggled with or at the very least seemingly was one of the later characters to get written into the game properly. I'd also say that Wyll, feel a bit under cooked, but his origin story is very "easy" to write compared to what they were going for with Karlach. I think the main problem is that we don't get a lot of proper quality time with Karlach before we are done with the infernal engine portion of her story arc... because after that first arc, most interactions with her feel more genuine however that is close to act 3 or if you miss some of those items it might even be IN act 3. The other characters either don't have a very strict arc until act 3, which allows for more random conversation and character building or their arc is closely connected to the main story line ex. Lae'zel. With Karlach it mostly boils down to conversations about how much she likes us even if she have known us for only a few days or about her engine being busted... this changes massively in act 3 ofc. but at that point people either zone out and stop caring or already loved her for other reasons. I haven't played the past few patches thou, I saw the patch schedule and decided to wait with the final achievements i need for the platinum etc. Haven't gotten around to it yet but i guess it will be once I'm done with the current games I'm playing.

So, is there actually some kind of buff you get from this ritual or does she just want the D? Because it would be hilarious if you refused her, she mentioned other willing flesh and the next day she would still get the buff and some other companion had it too while avoiding eye contact. Lae'zel would be the funniest option but you could go futher by placing it on three characters including SH neither of which would address it.

A scene I will never see in game. I have romanced her as a Selenite and told her to do what she feels she must. She always does the right thing. I would delete my save before seeing her corrupted lol. Besides - The Nightsong punching the ground and rising as her armour appears all over her body with the music playing, is the best scene in the game. Not opinion - fact.
