He’s a devil. He has eternity. There are schemes Asmodeus started all the way back before mortals even were created. They don’t cope to get by a situation they must accept; they cope so they can start over, adapt, revision, a plan that can work. In this, the mortal player is a check on ambition, but once they’re gone, no such check would exist. It may take hundreds or thousands of years, but eventually, Gale’s ambition will become… too much.

How very ironic that Raphael calls Gale's plan "following Karsus folly" when Raphael's own Plan was even more doomed. @flamenami2 ай бұрын
I mean the crown was originally in the possession of Mephistopheles. If one of the actual arch devils can’t take Asmodeus with the crown, there’s no way that Raphael stands a chance.
@Lardo137Ай бұрын
Apparently none of you have played the game. The point of the Crown wasn't its raw power, it was the potential for ascension. Raphael was already partially ascended from consuming so many souls; similar to Gale (a much weaker mage, but who held the Orb) the Crown had the potential to turn him into a full god. And a full god Raphael definitely has the potential to take over the hells, considering several of its archdukes are far weaker than gods. Zariel is already much weaker than Raphael just by comparing their canonical stat blocks, even on Balanced difficulty.
@flamenamiАй бұрын
@@Lardo137 And you don’t know nothing about the lore. He has zero chance to take over the Hells. Not only is Asmodeus a Greater God, you really think Mephistopheles would be so fucking stupid that he would use the “take over the hells” button if he could?
@df1nedАй бұрын
@@Lardo137 Yeah, is he far stronger than Mephistopheles? Seemingly not. Would he be far stronger than Asmodeus even if he ascended? I kinda doubt it. Also it didn't feel to me, from Raphael's cutscene like he had used it to ascend. It seemed more like a ring-of-power type thing for him. So I stand by putting a big fat "X to doubt" on his plans
@Lardo137Ай бұрын
@@df1ned I did some digging and actually, turns out Asmodeus has an canonical stat block! From the Chains of Asmodeus official module. And Raphael is weaker...but not by much. Raphael actually hits harder with his own Fireball nuke (26d6 vs Asmodeus' 20d6), Asmodeus just has way more innate abilities, slightly more HP, and the ability to call other subordinate devils (including other archdevils) for aid. (Raphael is also basically just as strong as his father, also in the same book. They share an ability to ignore resistances/immunities to fire, interestingly enough.) The point is, they're close ENOUGH in strength to where plotting and armies and silver bullets and strategy are going to matter far more than "I can punch 10% harder than you can." The real reason why Asmodeus is unbeatable isn't because he hits the hardest but because he's the leader of all the Hells and had ages to establish and reinforce his power base. Which is exactly what the Crown of Karsus would hypothetically be for.

I'm pretty sure those deals are only as good as the devil that makes them. That is to say...they need to hold power over the individual in question. As Asmodeus is barely considered on part with the gods in most cases, it is highly doubtful that Raphael could enforce the contract. Also, there's some question to whether the mortal soul of a person survives ascension. So, the entire contract may be null and void, and Gale is merely messing with Raphael.
